    Title: The Darkness Within
    Author: Kurinoone
    Rating: T
    Genre: Adventure/Angst
    DLP Category: Alternate?
    Pairing: Mild HG
    Status: Complete
Summary: What if Wormtail hadn't told Lord Voldemort the Potters hideout. What if he took Harry straight to him instead? A Dark Harry fanfic. AU Mild HG
    Link: FF- http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2913149/1/The_Darkness_Within

I read this a few years ago and was wondering if it was on here yet. It's such an overused plotline, but this author managed to add in quite a few twists. I strongly suggest you read more than the first chapter. If you like it, there are also 2 complete sequels.

If you can't get past any grammar/spelling errors, you might want to look at the rewrite. However, the rewrite is still in progress.

One, this has been posted before, if you're not certain check the stickies.

Two, "The rewrite" is basically a totally different story with the same premise.

This story is forever tainted in my mind with implications of plagiarism. I notice the rewrite begins with the attribution: "Also this story is inspired by 'A Shattered Prophecy' by Project Dark Overlord.".

It's good that she's finally admitting this straight up, but when the story was first published she gave no credit to Overlord and refused to do so for quite some time, despite the fact that the first 100k words or so were pretty much a paraphrase of his story.

I read this years ago before knew it was basically plagiarized and thought it was alright but not enough so to read the whole series.

However.. the rewrite is just bad.

OP: "Mild HG" is ridiculous. Either it has the pairing, or it doesn't. In this case it does, apparently, so add the tag (and I had better not read Mild H/G below this thread the next time I look). Read the Sticky if you're unsure how to do it right.

Lol, IIRC it ends up very strong H/G.

In such cases, it often reveals useful to check the thread aptly titled Important - Please Read before Posting (formerly known as Read This Before Posting Or I'll Kick Your Ass!).

    The Darkness Within by Kurinoone?

Okay, I'm new here, so nobody shoot me. Please. I've been hanging around for a while just observing, and I know this place is quite...well, you know.

Anywho. I was wondering...why isn't Kurinoone's 'The Darkness Within' trilogy in the Library or elsewhere? I mean, I know it's a Ginny/Harry one (which most people here seem to hate on principle - and yes, I completely understand your reasons for doing so) but personally I felt that it was portrayed quite well in this fic. Forgive me for my ignorance, but what is it exactly is the reason for it not being mentioned anywhere on here? He's Dark and the writing was good. True, it was mushy at times, but overall I liked it. Just curious why, I'm sure there's a reason.

Oh...and I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section. I wasn't sure where to put it - the Review section didn't seem right as I'm not putting it up for review, and the General section seemed to be mostly about canon so...

It's not in the library for one reason.

    It's awful.

Ah. I see. I didn't even know about that. It really is a shame that she did that, I rather liked that story. :/ Sorry, I didn't know there was already a thread on this. I wouldn't have made it otherwise. And no, I'm most definitely not the author.

What? Were you going to make the same thread for all the other stories you thought belonged in the library?

Oh god, no. Okay then. I just wanted to ask a simple question. Didn't necessarily want it in the library, just wanted to know the reasons why it was rejected. Won't do it in the future. I didn't know about the plaigarism. I wanted to know what flaws you all saw in the story itself. Curiosity is all. I now know. Simple. I'll be off now...

    Ahem.

Just to let the OP know, not everyone on DLP agrees with this sentiment. I myself think highly of this story and it's sequels.

And as for it ripping of another story... I read the other story, and I like Kurinoone's better. It's kind of like the argument that Family Guy ripped off The Simpsons: yeah, maybe, but Family Guy is still funny, so I don't really give a fuck.

The trilogy may not be in library, but in my opinion it dwarfs some of the stories in the library in terms of story. It wasn't a well told story, but the story itself was very well planned.

There are far worse stories that that.

@OP: Stop being so apologetic. DLP hates everyone equally.

I really enjoyed this story. And I see nothing wrong with seeing a good concept and the trying to implement it better. You'd be hard pressed to find many unique ideas in HP fanfiction anyway.

Dunno quite whether I'd say it's library material, but then, there's a lot of other stuff getting into the library that I enjoyed a lot less.

First fic in the trilogy was definitely the best. Third was fun, but a tad cheesy. Didn't really enjoy the second as much.

I dislike it mainly because of Kurinoone essentially copy/pasting the plot from Project Dark Overlord's story (which is much better) and then refusing to admit it for about a year. But yeah, it's not great.
