Taliath's In Light of Silver Memories featured a Harry with Dumbledore's memories. Sadly, it remains unfinished.

Personally I think that What Lies Beneath by Master Slytherin is as good if not better than Unlocked Knowledge.

I think it's aged very well. The Hat is still one of the best characters in FF. You rarely see anybody try and invent a whole new tournament, and the fact that the relationship with Fleur is slow moving is still a refreshing change of pace.

But I do agree with Taure, from what I remember Kmfrank executed this type of story perfectly, it's too bad that his story was abandoned.

Agreed. One of my favorite fanfics, although the fact that the author changed the ending from its original (and better in my opinion) version was more than a slight cop-out in my book.

What Lies Beneath is indeed a great fic. However, I don´t really consider it part of the memory inheritance genre, because it´s so dissimilar from all the other fics like Unlocked Knowledge. WLB is a straight up mystery story, and the memories Harry inherits are a means to an end in that plot, rather than being the main plot themselves.

I haven't read Of Blood and Power, and I wholeheartedly agree that PKH is just a terrible joke. I happen to love TLIL and think it's aged pretty darned well. I don't hold out much hope for ever seeing the sequel, but c'est la vie.

I would like to see a really good author explore Harry-with-LV's-memories, and IIRC, nuhuh's Demon's Feign, Merlin's Pain had a plot device sort-of like this, with
Harry having an avatar of Voldemort living in his head.

I tried reading that story two or three times and was always turned off by the douche-y sounding way the author wrote the Harry/Dumbledore amalgamation. It seemed like nothing more than Harry, lobotomized and re-tooled with the personality of a condescending ass-hat. Do Not Want.

Yep. The Hat is hilarious, but I also really liked the additional Champions, the totally revamped Tourney, and the way JBern made me hate his Krum.

Huh. I wasn't aware there'd been a different ending; I'll have to look into that now.

Yeah, I see what you're saying, but with that rationale one could say that Harry Potter canon is a straight-up coming-of-age story, with the magic, adventure, and Messiah-tale being just means to an end. (Or, swap Messiah-wank with coming-of-age, if you prefer.)

The point is that yes, sometimes parts of a story are not the 'plot' themselves, but if we start parsing every little thing then all we're left with are the vaguest sense of a story's purpose, when what we really want to know is if it uses a certain plot device and if so, how well.

I suppose I'm not explaining this well, so let me put it this way: Just because some plot point or device isn't the tip-top, utmost definition of the story's purpose, doesn't mean it isn't relevant. For WLB, the memories are part-and-parcel with everything else, since without them the plot does not move forward. In Matt Silver's Breach of Contract, the overall story is a "mystery," but the altered reality aspect is the single most important driving force for Harry to solve the murders and keep his secret.

I might be thinking of a different story. But as I recall, there is still a reference to the old version in the author's notes somewhere.
In the original ending, Tracey died, and was subsequently changed for reasons I don't particularly understand.
In fact it is still tagged as H/Hr at the end despite the fact that it ends H/Tracey.

I think I'm going to have to reread TLIL just to decide for myself how well its aged. I do like kmfrank's story but I'd forgotten all about it when until it was mentioned.

And yes The Hat from TLIL is amazing. I also love how he portrays the Four Founders.

True story. The bit about Gryffindor banging Helga's sisters was epic.

Wish I could obliviate myself of the great stories and reread them.

    Title: He Knew Those Signs
    Author: Drugan
    Rating: M
    Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3807819
Story Summary: AU. Second year. Harry worries after seeing some specific signs in a Ravenclaw girl.

So I found this whilst zig-zagging through favourite lists. I can't remember where I found it, but I've had it bookmarked for a while.

It isn't really anything new. Lockhart is a paedophile, and the victim that Harry spots is Luna. Whether she was the only one or not isn't stated in text.

The catch is that Luna remembers, even through being obliviated, because her father does it too. And I've only seen that in one fic before (the one where Dumbledore locks Harry up in a tower somewhere, and then Luna comes and shags him). And Harry shows similar signs to Luna.

It isn't anything deep and meaningful, nor will it take up more than a few minutes (only 2k words), but it isn't that bad. I reckon a 3/5.

Meh. I'd give ^ that one a 2... Like you said, it's not deep or meaningful, it's rather angsty and has little in the way of character development or plot. It's a modern version of a moral play -- with relatively little thought involved.

Summary: Dobby does not succeed in rescuing Harry and the order is crushed by Voldemort. Harry is sealed and 500 years into the future he is found by the crew of the ship, Serenity.

It's a half decent HP/Firefly crossover. Follows the basic premise of Harry gets frozen in time until he is found by the crew of Serenity. It's at 18k words so far, and it's being updated regularly. I don't hold particularly high hopes for the rest of the story because the writer has a bit of a history of starting of decently and then shitting all over his story. But at the moment I'd rate it at 3/5.

Interesting story, Usually crossovers try to keep Potter with the crew of Serenity for as long as possible. I'm not sure where he is going on this one, but I'll keep it on alert for now.

so far? 2.5/5 Plot seems aimless

    Name: A Cursed Bloodline
    Author: BlackToWhite
    Rating: M
Summary: He was close to death, yet no-one in his family was worthy of the vast fortune, the knowledge and the prestige that their name represented. Therefore, in death, he curses his bloodline, making any claim over the family null and void - until a worthy heir will come along, a heir that will use the power that this family represents for a worthy cause...
Warnings: Graphic Violence, Language, Graphic Sex Scenes (Lemons) in later chapters

I'd give this a 3/5 - So far it has all the pitfalls of any Super Harry story, overly mature 11 year old, sudden gain of power, magic wand of uber importance..

On the plus side: The writing is well done, the goblins are portrayed moderately well, rather interesting prologue, and his power doesn't seem to be so over the top that no one can ever defeat him...

Meh, it's nothing special. 3/5 and that's being generous.

LordAnarchy666's You Can't Take the Sky From Me is much better.

I suppose I'll follow it though. Not too many HP/Firefly crossovers so even if it can barely be considered decent, there's no harm in reading it.

    Summary:
Luna wants to have a better third year, so she asked her Daddy what to do.

this is a Luna centric one shot which takes place during goblet of fire,it revolves around Luna's weird truth telling/seer ability. Like majority of Luna stories it's whacky.
It'sdefinitely funny at places, made me chuckle a few times.
I found it interesting but then again Iam a sucker for weirdo loony stories.

not sure if it will meet dlp standards, but you guys please give it a try

    No.

    Nononono.

If you want a Harry/Luna fic, go read my own. Batshit insane and pitifully anti-social is not the way to write Luna. She doesn't show any sign of caring about the other students not accepting her, so the simple fact that she would ask her father what to do to change that (and receive such a blatantly horrible answer - 'ask Harry about contracts and bonds') in the first few paragraphs of the fic completely destroys all credibility.

I'm not going to rate it; after all, I made it through 300 words before I clicked the X, but this is not a DLP worthy story. This type of thing is supposed to go in the 'Almost Recommendable' thread located in the Fanfic Discussion forum.

My advice to you, itsrijo, is to lurk here a bit more before you start posting stories For Review. As a whole, DLP desires believeability in their fics (which can sometimes be taxxing when you need to suspend your disbelief this early in the fic).

    TL;DR - Don't read this tripe.

Ok this fic is not Upto dlp standards I know, my intention is not to recommend this to the library. I just want your opinions,
I just love the way you guys tear apart a story that's all..

but yes I did like some parts of this story and the reason why I love batShit crazy Luna is that she makes me laugh.

ps -From now on I'll post in the almost recommendable
@ averis - Iam better off lurking anyways
