People here start to move out as soon as the credits start rolling. I missed the post-credit stuff. :|

I went to the toilet during the credits, confident that I would be back in time for the usual post-credit scene.

The teaser is during the credits, not after. Whoops?

Well, now I *have* to see it - my 8-year-old son says he wants to see this even more than the clay-matian pirates movie, and for a kid who loves animated movies more than anything but Legos, that's saying a lot. So I suppose I'll be taking an entire Cub Scout den to the movies on Saturday. I've seen both Iron Man movies as well as the first Hulk movie, and skipped Thor, Captain America and Norton's Hulk - do I need any info from them or will my out-of-date comics knowledge get me thru? Let it be said that I read an embarrassing amount of comics back in the days when the Avengers included Ant Man and the black chick with a 'fro who could turn into energy. And yes, I fapped to that 'fro...

I'll also say it was a masterstroke on the marketing front to release the movie elsewhere before doing so in the US. No only has it presumably cut down on box office numbers being hurt by pirating but the build-up of hype and anticipation here in the States has been enormous. And correct me if I'm wrong, but will the official "opening day" box office numbers be those of the worldwide release or the US numbers? I have to think that if it's the latter, that's a third positive reason to delay the US release - to maximize a draw which was already going to be huge.

Speaking as someone who's seen all of the movies you listed, I'd have to say that no, you don't. Obviously I haven't seen The Avengers yet, but each one is made very similar to The Dresden Files. They're made as stand-alone movies that are loosely related to an over-arching plot, but you can just pick it up anywhere in the series and not be totally lost.

Would that be Pirates! In an Adventure With Scientists? Because that was brilliant as well, so don't miss out.

As for info, not really. The only relevant info that the previous Hulk film would impart is that Bruce Banner has an anger management issue, while Thor and Captain America is mostly just their origins (IE: Thor is from Asgard, his brother's a douche, and Captain America got frozen alive). The only things that might be a bit unclear are

Loki fell into the void between dimensions at the end of Thor. In Captain America, the Red Skull was using the Cosmic Cube to build weapons.

So I just came back from watching the Avengers. I'm not sure what I or my friends were expecting, but this wasn't it. This was much, much better. Maybe we had low expectations, because we haven't seen a good movie in a while. Nevertheless, we were all pleasantly surprised.
The movie gave everything we wanted it to, it presented everything it should have. They have all been listed before in the thread. We enjoyed the humor very much, the fight scenes were amazing, and the interactions were top-notch. The only half-complaints I might have is that it took a while to pick up and that the Hulk basically half-carried the movie by himself, but even those weren't a big problem.

As I said, I haven't seen a good movie in a while, and this was definitely a good superhero movie. Bravo, Marvel, let us have more of those.

P.S: Who was the bad guy at the credit scene? The lights on our theater went up before we could catch his face.

Just saw it at the midnight premiere. Basically, RDJ and Ruffalo carried the film. It wasn't bad, but it definitely dragged on, and I really don't understand the rave reviews. There were a lot of hilarious moments, but FFS, people in my theater clapped. Seemed fairly unwarranted.

This is a pet-peeve of mine when I go to movies. People who clap. It's embarrassing, honestly, that they think they should clap. There are few movies that actually warrant this, and fewer still where I would join in.

Hell, every single time this has happened in a theater I was in, I got up and left, out of sheer embarrassment for being seen with the people that actually thought that it was a good idea.

Standing ovations are all well and good, when they are actually deserved. I've never been to a movie where it was, and very few have come close.

Wait, you leave the theater because some people clap? Seriously? The fact that the clapping is embarrassing is enough to overcome the money you paid and the movie you went to see in the first place?

Edit: None clapped in my theater, but we were all -and I mean all- laughing uproariously at some scenes.

I should clarify that the people clap at the end credits. By then, I'm usually leaving anyway, I just leave faster.

I saw it at the midnight showing on a whim.

As someone who has minimal knowledge of the Marvel Universe I'll say that I enjoyed it. It was a good movie, but it didn't quite live up to all the hype.

It had a lot of funny moments, mostly one-liners but a few scenes as well.

Iron Man was great as usual with the humor and smart assery and self-assuredness. I quite liked the first Iron Man movie, thought it was great.

Hawkeye, about whom I know little, was also great in my opinion. Not even sure why exactly I liked him in the movie, but I did.

The Hulk had some good moments in conjunction with Iron Man, being as they're the two "smart" people around. Otherwise he was alright but nothing too special. I did find it disconcerting that he appeared to gain the ability to more or less control his Hulk state after having demonstrated earlier that he couldn't control it, and with no explanation really for the change.

Special effects were good. The action was good. The characters were good. ...it was a good movie.

But in my opinion not a 10/10. There just wasn't enough to it, intellectually. We had a moderately disturbing villain, but not one that I seriously considered capable of taking over the world. Plot was good, again, but with the need to give everyone screentime I guess there was only so much they could do?

*shrug* Worth the money for the movie ticket. Probably well worth it if you're already a fan of some or all of the characters involved. Not worth going to see it a second time.

I think they wanted to suggest that he can control it when he is his usual angry self. The problem is when the situation makes him turn into Hulk without his consent.

I get the impression that the problem is that Banner and Hulk are always working against each other. Bruce wants to purge Hulk from his body, and Hulk wants to live. Hulk is angry at 'puny Banner' because Bruce tries to fight Hulk scientifically, mentally, not on a level the Hulk can come at him on. Hulk is a fighter, first and foremost.

Mark Ruffalo brought the idea that past all the fighting Hulk, past the angst, all the 'woe is me', Banner has to buck up and deal with it. I am the Hulk. What's next?

In comics and in reviews, the Hulk is thought of as a wild dog, the missile that's aimed at the enemy. 'HULK SMASH' first and foremost. That's why the fight scenes seemed to work.

Planet Hulk, dude. That was a fucking great continuity, where he learned to control the Hulk.

... Considering Banner barely came out for that entire arc, I'd count that more as the Hulk living a life without puny Banner or the humans. Guess it depends as whether you see Hulk and Banner as one person or two.

Crap, someone just told me that there were TWO tidbits to catch during the credits.

I assumed there was just one so after I saw the scene that played during the credits and it went back to just scrolling credits like normal I left, assuming I had seen the bonus scene.

What was the second scene? Can someone say in spoiler tags?

Yeah, I'm really curious as to what was in the second credits scene. Apparently it was a joke and not something serious, but I don't know anything more than that.

What the hell was the reasoning for leaving part of the movie out for international viewers anyway?
