I'll join if you guys need another writer. (I donate my short story sales to DLP anyway; this just economizes the process.)

As a BTDT cautionary tale, jbern found that fewer than half of those who agreed to write stories for his anthologies completed them on time to be published in the final version. It may be worth seeking around 100k words so you have something viable if people flake/hit writer's block (which they will). Also, having some overall theme for each antho would make the final product more consistent (and marketable).

Even if proceeds go toward the site, you'd probably still want to draw up contracts specifying what rights are being held by DLP (first publication rights, copyright reverting to the author if not published by so and so date, etc.) to avoid confusion. Also, instead of self-publishing, spinning off a separate DLP imprint might make sense, if only to legally insulate publisher from forum--that way, we won't have to worry if someone makes a douche move and gets us sued.

Anchoring a short story anthology with one or more novellas might improve variety; novellas are hard to market normally and some of us I'm sure have one lying around gathering dust.

I have absolutely no idea. I've been reading fanfiction for so long that I can't remember the little details like how I found out about DLP.

I probably noticed someone pimping DLP in their author's note and followed a link, or something like that.

Joe, this would be awesome. I already have an original story called Cain up on DLP already, and I think it would be good for that sort of thing - about 6000 words and already complete! So take a look at that if you want, I'd love to contribute.

Coupled with her avatar, it was definitely frightening. Lungs is gonna rape her too! Doesn't anyone ever wonder where Irene went...?

I was under the impression that Irene was your weaker personality that has since been repressed.

Well, I was judging by the fact that deviatesfish has Lungs going <3333 on her wall and her name on IRC is female, it's a chick. But you never know with DLP.

    ^This.

Funny you should mention it, Pers. I'm actually part of a brand new imprint - calling itself Cedar Sky Publishing. It's a bunch of writer/business students I met at Curtin University years ago. Registered business here in Australia. They're the ones actually publishing my first novel.

A step above self-publishing, I know, just a step. But as what amounts to a silent partner, I could definitely swing an anthology or two through CSP. They haven't officially launched yet - no page, or anything. It all takes off early-mid June, with my novel.

But enough thread derail. I'll iron out some details and make a proper thread about this soon.

Edit: You know what, never mind, because then a % of the funds would go to them. Silly Joe.

I'm pretty sure that a printing run for a set of books is calculated as pages multiplied by number of books, and then they give you a price. I could be wrong, though, I'm just going off an assumption backed by logic.

Pretty sure we would just be selling as an ebook.

I would buy the shit out of a DLP anthology. Literally, even if such an ebook turned out to be shit, which I'm certain it wouldn't, I would buy it.

As for my origin story, I registered after the DF WbA was made members only, with a nice tl;dr troll intro for DarkLordCullen, but missed the window on that because of time zones. The intro section was closed soon after. :fire

I got to DLP looking for HP-SGA/SG1 crossovers, finding KenderCleric's Terran Ascension and Legacy of the Ancients. Browsed a bit, fucking loved the Kill-Off contests, stuck around ever since.

Having a DLP anthology sounds like an awesome idea.

I think I ended up here because of Denarian Renegade, not entirely sure. It was either that or Merlin's pain. Lurked for quite a while and then managed to put in an intro that surprisingly didn't piss people off after the initial issue. Apparently I did my long post in word so it became one unreadable wall of text until I fixed it. Been here ever since and surprisingly I still don't think I've really annoyed anyone yet, I think that's a new record for me.
