Anyone have any mobility tips tor Swain? I've read and use the zoning system, but often find that I'm out of position if I abide by it in Dominion. Maybe my build is wrong ( I never get to build Rylai, instead building AA) but I keep getting globaled in that mode. Since I use it as practice before I try unranked CS, it is kind of necessary for me to understand how to play a non hyper mobile AP. I used to, and still do on occasion, play Kassadin, which forever ruined me.

 

21/0/9 masteries. You have no idea how much that single point into move speed will help you, even if you only get an extra 3 or 4 out of it. On the same taken, Swain's whole schtick (along with both Fizz and Gragas) is that they need to be on the frontlines. Swain has no escape, but he's tanky enough as it is with his ultimate. Fizz and Gragas sort of do, but they also need to use their escapes to set up a kill, 9 times out of 10.

The big thing with Swain is nailing your combo. W>E>Q>R. Keep his ult on as long as you can - blue buff and RoA help a LOT with this - but turn it off as soon as they're out of range. You don't want to piss away your mana, especially since they nerfed the mana per second on it. Also, to go back to the subject of mobility, his Q has a slow and his W has a snare, but you already knew that.

Positioning is all about getting into the other guy's head, or at least that's how I do it. I poke them a bit, show them just how much burst I can do - it helps if you get a kill out of it, but if you send them back with nothing to show for their effort, it's a win-win either way - they're suddenly scared of being in range of my spells, leaving me to free-farm. Naturally, this advice applies to Summoner's Rift, since I don't play a whole lot of Dominion. Somebody who does want to help me out?

On another note, playing a champion who doesn't have a mobility move feels somewhat freeing and challenging. I've been playing only Lux for the past three days, and my god she's fun, but I hate getting ganked when flash is on cooldown, because you're essentially screwed unless you can see them coming, which you won't if it's Shaco.

I had a game where I went 0 and 8 at mid against a Morgana. By the end of the game I was 9 and 8 with 16 assists. We won, by the way.

But with Swain, what do you mean by mobility tips? Maybe it's cause I don't play much Dominion, but I dunno and will give my comments according to SR. Anyways, I honestly suggest not getting Archangels. If you are running into mana problems, get a Rod of Ages instead. Honestly, unless you are a champion that stacks mana (Ryze, Ap Kog?), I don't understand why the item is taken, it's not worth it for it's price. Also, if you are zoning, just remember to ward. Rylai isn't really a must imo for Swain. Just get it if you REALLY need that slow utility/hp, otherwise you're Q is enough.

 

The allure of Archangels for Swain is all of that mana to piss away. It means he can stay in his ult longer, so he would naturally want to do that because Swain in his ultimate is a fucking bitch to kill.

 

I just had an APmumu game, 24/10/8 with a quadra kill.
Game was only 38 minutes. Nautilus and Fizz duoed mid against me and firstblooded me with a twitch gank under the tower at level 2. Full HP into fizz dive with naut and twitch assisting. Fizz made it out because he had heal and only needed to Qautoattack+ignite to get the kill with twitch+red buff and nautilus autoattack there to help.

After that though, I pretty much destroyed everything. It seems every time I play APmumu, I get put against a jungle twitch who feeds me buffs. They think "Ill just gank this here mumu" then get stunned and ulted. His level 7 combo is 485+2.5, but he also gets -25 MR reduction at that level from autoattacks. He hurts like a BITCH vs squishy characters like APs, supports, and AD carries.

Their nautilus started going sporadically AFK because he and the fizz were pulling the classic "idk ill duo mid i called it" bullshit and also getting dominated, but our corki was afk for the first 5 minutes and then fed top and was 2-7-0 by 8 minutes. Once teamfights started it didn't matter, as their squishy team pretty much took 50% or more from my ult alone. Since we had mao/leona/corki/graves to aoe the stationary targets during my ult and their only AD was twitch, they were SOL.

At one point, corki DCd mid and got caught out by 5 people. Leona came to protect him and they were both killed, but she landed her ult stun on 3 of them and the slow hit a fourth. I managed to flash in and ult, and got an instant triple kill with ult+leona sunlight+tantrum+1 second of tears, then managed to finish xiggs off with bandage toss and tears before fizz killed me. Turned a 2 for nothing into a 3 for 4 and quadra kill.

Another point, we had just done baron (because my tears at that point did 7.7% max HP per second with no cap) and I was teleporting out. I was low on HP and twitch started attacking me. I was in shop and not centered, in the instant I had before his last autoattack would kill me, I managed to Q+ult+tantrum on him and kill him, leeching back HP from less than a sliver. As I ran away, I got as low as 85 HP from the ticking poisons. Fizz showed up later and got kited by maokai slows before I finished him with a bandage toss, then ziggs showed up and threw his ult at me, which I dodged by bandage tossing wraiths and then running around him in circles with tears up, leeching just enough HP to survive his autoattacks while dodging his skillshots. Viktor finally showed up and threw his ult on me just as I bandage tossed onto him, pulling me out of it and leeching enough HP to survive the first tick, then mirrored my fight with ziggs and leeched enough HP from tantrum and tears to survive his damage.

All in all the stupidest, most skillless and metaless game I've played in a long time, and soooo much fun. At the end of the game I had 3700HP, 710 AP (with pot/baron), and 70 flat magic pen. Ult did 1000 AOE, Q did 1000 single target, tantrums did 500 aoe, and tears did 9.7% HP with a constant slow. I was basically a walking malzahar pool with a rylais.

Playing Ultimate Bravery 5v5 Customs and actually getting Viable builds is great.

1st game: Morde, Heal Ignite, Boots 5, Guinsoo, Aegis, Abyssal, FoN, TMail

2nd game: Kass, Smite Revive, Ninja Tabi, DFG, DCap, Lich Bane, Leviathan, Locket

What is Ultimate Bravery? Google-fu only explains the basics (you have to build random items on a random champion) is there anything else to it?

edit: Not terribly impressed with Varus.

 

Meh its going to take a lot of practice but I love Varus so far. I just still need to figure out an optimum build.

 

Looks like you should mix on hit with AD. Malady and Nashor maybe? Then get Last Whisper for AD and ArPen. Looks like he wants to hit a lot (that passive) but still be able to unload auto-attack damage. Maybe Ghostblade instead of Nashor, then build the critsword?

Ew, indeed. Just do the standard one size fits all AD carry build. Dorans, Greaves, IE, PD, LW/BT, etc.

 

Hey Im certainly nothing vaguely resembling an expert so Ill very certainly try it out.

 

Arguably, I would favor Black Cleaver over Last Whisper(barring 3-4+ tanks), moreso than on other AD carries, simply because attack speed is a bit more useful on him than some others.

 

Alright so one of the biggest things Im discovering so far with Varus is that at least in my opinion he is an extremely team dependent champ, if I have a solid team I can rape but if my team blows they leave and I get focus fired before I can bat an eyelash.

 

I almost feel like Varus is just a mix between Kog'maw and Vayne. If you proc blight, his overall dps probably won't lose out to Kog and Vayne at late game. His slow is pretty decent, and snare is great. No dash though.

But yeah, probably should just build him standard Ad, with IE,PD,LW. Black Cleaver works too if enemy isn't stacking armor.
