    So, it's out today.

Anyone seen it? Judging by the trailers and reviews it's pretty much a bunch of Transformers-esque Michael Bay-style Stuff Blowing Up action-schlock, but if it's competently executed it might be worth seeing.

I'll see it tomorrow probably. My expectations are extremely low, but the price of admission will be worth it so long as someone in the film shouts, "YOU SUNK MY BATTLESHIP!!!"

    Edit:
Michael Bay has already decided to destroy your childhood in a bevy of CGI explosions. There's no stopping him at this point. Just accept it.

Dude, my childhood is intact as long as 3 things never get ruined by Bay. Power Rangers, Gundam/Macross, or Star Blazers, so I'm doing fine just suffering.

To be honest, a Gundam/Macross movie done by Bay could actually work. I mean, it'd probably lack all the interesting themes and characters, but his over the top special effects might look good an epic sci fi like that. Macross Zero adaption?

Someone needs to kill Michael Bay. I think Megan Fox would be the ideal candidate - she hates him and if she kills him she goes to prison forever! Win-win.

I'm fairly certain I would have to be drunk enough to go into liver failure to willingly go see this movie.

I can't see any possible way for this movie to be good.

It was fine... really. Your typical american action movie without much substance plotwise. It had entertaining action scenes and cool sci fi effects, so it pretty much worked for me. Even saw it in less than stellar quality.

Don't think I will watch it again though.

to be clear, I wasn't saying a Macross/Gundam cross >_> I was just saying those are on equal footing in my mind.

Thankfully, none of those things were good to begin with.

    Ever.

I've heard the Battleship movie is surprisingly good.

I don't think anyone is expecting it to be a good movie; it's just a question of whether there's enough cool action and stuff blowing up for it to be a decent time waster.

It certainly would be better than the typical Japanese live action movie.

It was fine, really. I don't think they really took themselves too serious. Like any Michael Bay movie it glorifies something, in this case the Navy, and it was actually weirdly refreshing to see that. It was actually fairly informative when it comes to ships.

Also, the Kung-Fu soccer in the beginning was hilariously interpreted as only an american can do it. No offense.

Dominion... now there is a cool game.

Of course, if you can't leave your anime alone long enough to play it, there's always the startlingly similar game mechanics of Tanto Cuore.

Speaking of anime: Wut? Is that a Lupin The Third game?

    I just saw it.

Not even good enough to qualify as a guilty-pleasure action flick.

Despite going in with really dismal expectations, it still failed to impress me, because the plot was literally nonexistent. The whole time I was itching to get to the big reveal about why the aliens were attacking in the first place... but it never came. Motivations unexplained, they were all killed in glorious explosions and the triumphant humans lived happily ever after.

Also disappointing, Liam Neeson, perhaps the only legitimate actor in the entire movie, had roughly ten minutes of screen time. WTF is that about?

In summary, a particularly substandard invasion flick that's not worth 11 dollars. The movie's only redeeming qualities were A) getting to watch the japanese guy play real-life Battleship with the NOAA buoy grid, and B) getting to hear one of the old Korea vets shout, "THERE'S NO WAY YOU'RE SINKING THIS BATTLESHIP!!"
