Yes, as Jorm pointed out, there is both a thread for that, and a post for that. ;)

    And, welcome to DLP.

Rule of thumb: if slash is mentioned, it's always the main pairing.

Harry definitely seems to be growing a backbone, and I think we'll see him forge his own path more in the coming chapters.

If not for the ending, I'd probaby be reccing this for the library. As it is... eh. Still worth reading, if you like the pairing.

Yeah, pretty much. I get the feeling that the author wanted the ending to have a lot of impact, but I didn't really feel it. Other than the ending, the story is decent enough, however.

Harry Potter and the Return to The Past
    http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5465591/1/Harry_Potter_and_the_Return_to_the_Past

After the battle over Little Whinging Harry is transported twenty years into the past. He will go to Hogwarts with his parents for their seventh year and learn the skills he needed to defeat Voldemort. See Chapter 1 for summary.
    Harry Potter - Rated: T - English - Adventure - Chapters: 43 - Words: 170,228 - Reviews: 561 - Updated: 3-25-12 - Published: 10-25-09 - Harry P. & Lily Evans P.

I'm only on chapter 11 but the story isn't too bad, it's well thought out and the writing is pretty solid. The divergence from canon occurs during chapter 4 of DH, and due to some form of Priori Incantatum Harry is sent back, in time. It's a little too convenient that he ends up outside of the Evans household and is found by a young Petunia but whatever.

Pros: Harry isn't overly powerful, in fact he's portrayed as rather stupid and naive, but he is a rather quick thinker. He immediately comes clean to Lily, and with her help, she starts to properly train him.
Harry doesn't just automatically get sorted into Gryffindor and resume his old life, he has realistic struggles that aren't just glossed over.
We see how Harry's disappearance affects his own universe, which is rather interesting.
It's completed and over 170k words.

Cons: Like I said, it's a little too convenient that Harry ends up at the Evans.
The Auror's/Ministry accept Harry's story a little too quickly, although that could change as the story progresses.
Everyone accepts "Nathaniel Evans" story without a second thought, it seems nobody checks out his story.

Overall I'd say the story belongs in this section; it's not exceptional yet it's not horrible either. Also the authors Harry/Tracy story is shaping up to be pretty damn good.

EDIT: The story IS NOT complete, I have no idea why I said it was. Other than that it has some original elements and it seems clear to me that the author has this story well thought out with some sort of endgame. So much of the story seems cliche but the execution is pretty damn good. Weighing the pros and cons I still give it a 3/5. Why the author has some original twists I just don't think Harry faces anything to challenging.

Agreed. I read a little further than Taure, but found the staggering inconsistency of Harry's skills relative to his peers to be jarring. The way the time travel was handled was pretty lame as well--you know it's going to be silly when the author prefaces with such a hole-ridden discourse on her "theory" of time travel.

And then moral event horizons are evaded by the central characters moving well into the bacon-necktie moral dimension because, well...
Lily and Harry are so super-ultra-mega that they can destroy another student with impunity, provided they're careful about hiding the body. Besides, it was Peter and nobody really cared about him anyway.

That said, the story is longish and competently constructed (provided you overlook these kinds of annoyances), so it's probably appropriate for the thread.

I closed it when Lily got angry at Harry for going off to make out with a girl, and Harry agreed that she was in the right. What kind of shit is this where a 17 year old girl is determined to cock-block a boy her age like she's some kind of Molly Weasley? She may be his genetic mom but that is not their relationship. Their relationship would be like that of a host family to a foreign exchange student.

This kind of shit is exactly what's wrong with all those 'X reads HP book stories' as well (other than the other obvious awfulness). If a guy my age came to me claiming he was from the future, and my son, I wouldn't have the urge to be all fatherly, I'd probably have the urge to knock him the fuck out, or if he was chill, go to the pub, and then knock him the fuck out.

To be fair, if someone came to me and told me they were a Wizard, my response would be the same.

Someone telling you that they are from the future means a little more when time travel is a reality.

i think what Lord Anarchy is saying is that on the assumption that you did believe him, you still wouldn't start acting like an over protective 40 year old parent. If your son is your age, you'd probably treat him the same way YOU would want to be treated.

You haven't seen him grow up from being a little baby, nor do you even have that much interaction with him. Any relationship would probably be awkward, and somewhat forced. And it'd probably be more of equals than one of father-son.

It's got a couple of clichés, among them a manipulative Dumbledore who resorts to mental conditioning and a Harry who hides the fact that he's a genius. The story is alluding to some sort of Parsel magic as well. Otherwise there are a variety of different plot elements that are very interesting, the author often elaborates on several points that result in giving this story depth, although how he chooses which part he fleshes out feels somewhat random.

All in all it's surprisingly well written and definitely belongs in the almost recommendable category, and depending on how the story progresses and how the author justifies the actions of several characters it might even become better than that.

I agree. I've been following it for about the last four updates. It's one of the only stories I've read where

... Harry figures out that he's being taught by a Death Eater, said Death Eater knows it, and they both take advantage of each other to get what they want.

It was an interesting take and at least original to me.

    Plus Manipulative!Dumbledore isn't a total bumbling idiot.

The story makes no sense plot wise to me how Crouch Jr. acts to Harry. Dropped it around chapter 3 or 4.

He has to keep up the pretense of being Moody.

Even after Harry figures out that he's not actually Moody, Barty still needs to act like Moody for the sole purpose of no one calling him out on not being a paranoid ex-Auror. Then again, the fact that he's using Polyjuice right next to one of the more powerful wizards at least in Britain is probably making him plenty paranoid.

Well, trying to act like Moody is ok but the guy was under imperius for about 13 years, locked at home when he was about 20. And such guy suddenly knows all the shit about parsel speakers in the world and who to contact.

Furthermore Crouch's tries to help Harry against Dumbledore with Occlumence training means risking it all is plain stupid on 2 fronts. That doesn't cut it for me.

How the story works it will end with Harry working with Voldemort against Dumbledore. A concept I see as far too convoluted to be believable.

I can't see Harry working with Voldemort, as Harry's research shows his interest towards Lawful Good with human rights, while Voldemort is simply Chaotic Evil who wants to kill people without logical reasons. The only way I could see this working is if Crouch too turns against Voldemort. He seems intelligent enough to not to settle being mindless Death Eater.

Unless the author makes Voldemort into some sort of misunderstood freedom fighter who really wasn't responsible for the atrocities in the first war. But even then Voldemort has too much bad PR to really be any use to Harry.
