Oh we harking back to 2005?

FF.net has always deleted good stories. I'd posted something like 500,000 words of the Hero Trilogy back in the day, and that was removed because some douche (Joehundredaire - still a douche) didn't like that I left long-winded authors notes at the end of chapters.

Three complaints later and the stories were down. I lost somewhere close to 5,000 reviews, I think.

Not a great loss, considering the source of those reviews, but there was some gold amongst the shit.

I didn't start posting to ff.net again until 2009, but so far I've had a good run. I think. *goes and checks stories are still there*

I do recall Power of Time being taken down for similar reasons, around 2007. Enough people emailed the admins protesting this move that the admins restored the story.

Sorry, but what did you just say? That stories with lemons in them are inherently "pieces of shit"? Dude, what is wrong with you?

I've read ONE with a descriptive 'lemon' that was halfway decent.

    So, yeah, pretty much.

I've noticed there are stories with sex in them that are decent, but if it's labelled as a lemon? Yeah it probably is shit.

Not all lemon authors are shit, but pretty close to 90% should probably retake biology. That being said, this is not being limited to lemon authors just look at this list. A lot of people seem pissed about the sudden loss of M stories, especially good ones (or by DLP standards half-way decent).

    The FF.net Nazis strike again

So her I am checking my subscriptions like a loyal reader when all of the sudden I have Two, not one, TWO (not)updates. Both (not)updates are copy pasted petitions for the Nazis we "affectionately" refer to as the FF.net admins to not remove the violent/smuty stories.
here is a copy of the petition if you wish to look at it

"Sorry for this, but this is not a true update. Just me feeling the need to express my displeasure.

It has recently come to my attention that whoever it is that administrates this fine site, have suddenly become very anal and are planning to remove stories with lemons as well as stories with excessive violence. In my opinion that's one of the dumbest ideas they could come up with. I've read quite a few stories that while they may contain a lemon or two, their content isn't simply about the steamy bits. Take stories by Kenchi618, his stories are entirely plot driven and focus more on action and adventure than anything else. Hell the epic that is In Flight contains a scene that could be considered a 'lemon'. I will be damned if I lose these stories. And I hope many of my fellow authors and readers will be in similar positions address this travesty.

This is a site where people gather to write and read stories. Good ones and not so good ones. But it's all a way that we can all express ourselves. Sure it's fan fiction. But by the gods we love it and I wont stand for people putting a chain on creative ingenuity. The moment that starts happening, well, I liken it to someone pumping poison into the veins. Help save this site before that poison kills it.

    bunch of names"

forgive me for the bad format but i still Have not gotten the hang of quoting yet

any way its the strike of the:nazi

There's a topic about the FFn fuck-arounds already.

Yeah, I've seen a few of these too, and while I can't say I agree nor disagree with these messages and their cause, thinking that there's been a legit update to a story I've been following, and instead getting these chapter-messages, is quite irksome.

Was quite tempted to post a, "Stop being a douchebag!" review earlier, but I couldn't be assed.

Does anybody know what causes account deletion, as opposed to story deletion?

Because after seeing it referenced in a few author's notes today, I noticed Dark Dragen (animagus mishap, and an aunt's love) and megadeth (that one where the man had sex with every pokemon known to man. And his sister) don't have accounts any more, whereas a few others just have stories gone.

Probably something to do with how many infractions (stories) that were to be deleted. I imagine that if one author had over whatever random number admin#XX deemed reasonable, their accounts got deleted.

Not a big loss given the two you mentioned.

Has that seriously been deleted? I can only imagine the outrage occurring over on FF.net then. The story was a massive piece of shit, but it seemed to be extremely, extremely popular (who the hell knows why though).

I never really got this - why the hell do people call them lemons? Just seems stupid to me. There is probably an explanation for the terms origin (like slash and ship) but lemons just sound pretty stupid - whats wrong with calling it sex?

"Lemons are stories that explicitly depict sexual activities, so named because they leave a sour taste in one's mouth, if not other places. A lime is a lemon with most of the really good bits taken out."

Lemon has been a warning for explicit sexual content in a fic for as long as I've been reading fanfiction. It's largely restricted to anime fandoms. The term comes from the title of one of the first hentai film series, "Cream Lemon" [1984].

It comes from an old sex-anime series called Cream Lemon. The term "lime" is used to denote fiction with sexual themes, but which don't contain the explicit sex that lemons do.
I might be wrong on this one, but IIRC, it goes WAAAAAAAAAAAAY back and used to refer to any fic whose ostensibly sole purpose was to pair two characters (be it a het or homo relationship). It specifically references the literal slash we still use in denoting these pairings: X/Y (X slash Y). Since, even back in the days before the innertubez, when these stories used to actually be published and circulated by vanity presses, these sorts of pairing-focused stories were overwhelmingly homosexual, the term "slash" came to specifically mean "homosexual pairing".
I would think that "ship" is self explanitory: relationship.

Anyway, much of fanfiction Jargon was pretty much "set in stone" so to speak by the anime fanfiction community, which used to comprise the vast majority of fics on ff.net in its early days. Before the Anime fanfic community came on the scene, most fanfiction was star-trek stuff. The star-trek ff community gave us "slash," by the way. Long before ff.net, anime fanfiction was exploding all over the net and concentrating on places like rec.arts.anime.creative and the Fanfiction Mailing List.

Sorry, didn't mean to imply I didn't know where ship and slash came from - I was just saying I figured 'lemons' had a similar origin to these two terms. Those two are self explanatory enough, but I couldn't work out lemons (which is fair enough, as the origin seems to be somewhat obscure).

That's pretty interesting - thanks for filling me in guys.

Has anyone managed to get rid of that stupid sumary at the top of every chapter yet? It stretches the whole page out and I usually bowse with a half screen width tab so I can watch stuff still.

#gui_table1i .alt2 td { display: none; } will kill everything but the formatting/chapter bar. #gui_table1i .alt2 img, #gui_table1i .alt2 div:first-of-type { display: none; } will kill just the avatar and summary.

So I'm assuming that the admins are doing a sire purge or something? I have a profile I use to favorite stories so that I can find them if, at a later point, I have the desire to re-read them or wonder where I read said story. After several years, that number has creeped up to about the 400-mark. Over the last week or so, though, that number has been steadily decreasing. At first I assumed some people got tired of writing and deleted their profiles, but this thread has shown otherwise.

Also,in regards to Tasoli's request, I'd like to repeat it--is there any chance of getting a DLP member, hopefully one with experience in the format of the site, to become a FF administrator? It would help fix problems, assuming someone is willing to devote that amount of time and energy.

EDIT: Never mind. Apparently it just defaults by popularity now and I just missed the organization options up top. It's late.

Uh... not a fan of the new layout either, but thankfully a Stylish fix came out quickly. Thanks for that.
