    Has anybody else noticed that the emailed copies of your story's reviews get cut off if the review is too long?

    This never used to happen before. Why start now?

    Thanks, some minor changes and I now have it so that I don't have to scroll on the horizontal plane or deal with the overbloated summary/avatar combo anymore.

    Code:
    @-moz-document domain("fanfiction.net") {
    #content_wrapper {
          max-width:102.5%;

      }
    #gui_table1i .alt2 td { display: none; }
    }

    I finally was fed up and content-blocked the new picture shit. What the fuck, FF.net. I don't want to stare at pictures, I want to quickly scan summaries to see if there is something not utterly shit in a list. Random bright colourful "cover" pictures for stories is distracting as all hell and the worst idea they had recently.

    I've noticed the same thing with lengthy PMs. The emailed copy will be truncated after a couple paragraphs or so. I don't believe they started doing that until fairly recently.

    Apparently they're cover images... I guess they're only the author's avatar if they haven't provided a new pic for the story. :confused:

    FFN has always been great at 'fixing' and 'improving' shit that doesn't need fixed or improved, while the things that do need fixed (like the shit I mentioned in earlier posts) go unchanged for ages. God, with that kind of business acumen, they could be a highly successful business. Bigger than Microsoft.

    Of course, all of this dickery has, once again, broken De-FFNet-Izer and FanFictionDownloader.

    Thankfully, FanFictionDownloader has already updated to fix it.

    I wonder how many of the stories they're deleting were posted by someone who is dead now, and can't re-upload. It happens with startling frequency.

    Oh, and I've tried everything to get the crossover list to return to alphabetical order, but it refuses to switch back from "popularity".

    No. "An Aunt's Love" is still up. FF.net took down all of Dark Dragen stories which included "Perverted Aunt" and his other "stories" (basically shitty PWP). You can find him on Patronus Charm.

    About that we really should put backups to PC so if something happens to FFN version it doesn't get lost.

    Hell PC could take FFN place if we played that right.

    I don't think most authors would like us to just copy paste their story to PC. Maybe invite them over to PC, but not just put it on PC without permission.

    I assumed he meant those of us with our own stories on FFN.

    Many longtime DLP members have seen individuals publicly archiving others' stories without permission and generally decided the practice was "not cool".
    --

    I just can't imagine not having a backup of your own stories. I'm mystified when people cry over 'losing' their stories because FFN deleted them.

    Who posts a chapter to FFN and then just deletes it from their computer? "Well, it's in their hands now; so, surely, I don't need this anymore." :rrou:

    Who does that? Why would you do that? :confused:

    I mean, it's a little different when it's your own computer that has something happen to it, like a hard drive crash, and you lose your files, but in that case you should be able to at least grab what you already posted off the site to which you uploaded. What are the odds that your hard drive would crash the same day FFN (or whoever) decided to remove your story?

    Not having a local backup of what you're posting is just plain stupid. Even the people with no PC of their own, writing and posting from the local library, should have a thumbdrive to store their work on... or a lowly floppy - it's only text, after all. And, there are all kinds of online storage options, for something that small.

    Just dumping your work on a fic site and deleting all other traces of it from your own storage is like dumping your otherwise lovingly raised child in the bad part of town, in the middle of the night, and saying, right before you drive away, "Gee, kiddo, I just love you to pieces, and I'm sure everyone else will, too! I'm certain nothing bad could possibly happen to you out here." :facepalm

    Dropbox is your friend :) Or maybe go for Google drive for 5gb free online storage. You can easily fit a few stories on that :D

    Jesus H. Christ, every fucking chapter update on FFn is a shitty, "STOP TEH DESCTURCITONSZ!" 'petition'.

    Hopefully, the admins will include those retards in their crusade.

    Out of curiosity Jorm, are these updates from authors on your alerts or just ones found via browsing? I do hope it's the latter...

    Yeah most of them are assholes.

    I liked the work ethic of some writers though as they put up new chapters first than that infernal petition.

    Boy, there sure are a lot of rats fleeing the 'sinking' ship, what with all of the alternative sites getting blitzed by new members uploading multiple fics.

    There have even been a number of brave souls who ignored the 'condemned' sign on Ficwad in order to post there. I bet that place hasn't seen this much activity in the entire past year. :rolleyes:

    The funny thing is, there's so much stuff hosted on FFN, and so many members, I bet the staff would be hard pressed to even notice people leaving... while, undoubtedly, some of those people probably think FFN will be sorry when they're gone. :| Right.

    Plus, lots of people will probably just say 'fuck it' and just stay on the site. And there is a good chance the amount of people who just don't care will outnumber the number who up and leave.
