It is not an insider info he is giving.
Harry heard all about the phone through the eye-patch.

You guys keep picking up on intentionally question-begging passages or references and thinking they're errors, instead of me being a mysterious bastard who intentionally puts those things in as clues.

Yeah, they're not going to succeed in blocking magic. If anyone's to understand some aspect of it, it'd be the Asgardians who have their own sort-of-magic.

Right - we can assume until stated otherwise that Harry can listen in on anything where Fury is directly involved. (Or takes place in that large conference room. <chekov's gun>)

Why is Fury being so vague about what was stolen, and why doesn't he mention the note?
Embarrassment only goes so far, I mean, Fury is a professional, so why would he intentionally withhold evidence and information from his team?
Mistrust doesn't really make sense either, because if there was a traitor on the team, he would already know about both the missing phone and the note.

    I misunderstood what was being said in the earlier comment--I thought the person who said Harry knew they were tracking via the phone meant that it had been shown that Harry was aware that phones could be tracked by location, which had not been stated, rather than that he knew now since he was presumably listening in via eyepatch. ^_^;

In military organisations, that sort of information would be on a need to know basis, basically. And none of Fury's subordinates need to know what Harry stole.

I didn't really intend it to come across like that, and I'd hope others pitched in on that. I thought it would be prudent that the exact nature of what was stolen and the note's details are only given to those directly involved in retrieving it - the rest wouldn't know more. This way anyone knowing more than they ought to can be easily caught out rather than everyone just spreading around the details of what happened.

I've been trying to think all secretive-like ever since people commented that SHIELD didn't seem shadowy enough. (Though I'd argue they're not quite like that in Avengers either. :p)

    Cheers.

Wasn't Fury the one who asked and this Miles fella the one who nodded?

It was an excellent chapter for a variety of reasons. One, they are tracking Harry through the phone, but once they figure out exactly what it is that he was looking for/heading to they might rethink their strategy. Two, they have to realize that means that Harry was intentionally seeking out the Hulk and they probably think that Harry knows about him which seems to imply Harry is either batshit insane or so powerful that he doesn't really care if Banner's green friend shows up. Both of which are worrying thoughts. Three, Banner is someone who understands how to avoid SHIELD to an extent and he also knows a lot about technology so Harry solves his only being able to go to Tony for help issue.

This was a very well crafted chapter given the short amount of time it took for you to write this. You covered multiple angles with one move even if some of them were unintentional. Though, Harry did know that they were tracking Banner from the listening charms so it makes since that Harry would decide to visit him.

At the same time, it makes Banner feel less alone given that he knows that Harry clearly isn't normal either.

Thanks for your comments - and I think the next chapter will help a lot in figuring out what Harry's intentions are in finding Banner. No, he doesn't know about the reason SHIELD's scared of Banner, but he's not just flying off there for shits 'n giggles.

Regarding Bruce and Harry - well, they both have experience keeping secrets, I don't think that'll be a huge issue. (He's not Tony. :p)

I've been enjoying your story - I like how you seem to be trying to avoid typical super!Harry traps (like with movement towards eventually developing the tele-block). With the mentioning of Banner in the last chapter, I wondered if he'd be the next stop for Harry.

Specifically, I wondered if the cheering charm would calm him enough to prevent the transformation...? I can't remember if there were calming charms or if it was strictly in potion form; but the cheering might be enough (so long as Harry makes the connection... hard not to if Banner gives the line 'you wouldn't like me when I'm angry' :p)

I don't think Harry would be using apparition much in battle anyway - there's already been discussion about that. Shield's unlikely to find a way to stop magic without knowing what it is - I seriously doubt even their super tech would detect stuff they weren't meant to. That is not to say he can't be beaten - you still need concentration for apparition, e.g. thinking clearly, plus I would expect that one would need at least a little room to move. It may remain one of his bigger advantages, at least for long-distance travel in any case.

I am indeed being careful with making Harry Super, even though by all rights he's damn powerful - he has a very versatile toolset to use and if he really wants to cut loose, he does have the Elder Wand. Still - the other Avengers also get kind of badass, so being pretty damn powerful is not in principle horrible in this fandom. He'd still be below Hulk and Thor probably in a fair fight, but then most everyone is. Perhaps even more important is the fact that Harry can augment the various tricks of his allies, which should be interesting. :p

That all makes sense, but there is an element of ambiguity in the fact that nothing is ever mentioned. I mean its great to have you here to answer my questions and stuff, and I suppose it'd be better if I were able to infer these little tidbits on my own, but the story is only being supported by your declaration, not by evidence within the text. Something like a scene where he has a more private meeting with Natasha asking her to keep her ear open for people who are more aware of the situation than they have clearance to know would be a great way to introduce these mysterious overtones without relying on the reader's deductive capacity.

I don't know If I mentioned this here or some other topic but one thing to remember is that in GOF Hermione mentions to Harry about charms wich gives him super strength. It is advanced charm of course but this Harry could use them perhaps.

I still think that Harry could beat anyone with clever and powerful application of magic, and on the other hand his body is merely that of magical human - his main weakness. But magic gives so many avenues of attack - straight damage, transfiguration, environment, mind, dark arts, space-time manipulation, hundreds of different spells..

Personally, I am enjoying how the author is alluding to things, not out right saying them in story, and allowing us to make inferences. I hate it when authors assume their readers are so dumb that they have to spoon feed their audience every single detail, beating them upside the head. So far everything has come across very logical to me that I have been able to infer the unsaid details fairly accurately. Take Harry knowing about the phone tracking for instance. It is merely commonsense that he would know about it due to the eye patch. There is no point to stating the reason in story. Doing so would simply be an effort of degrading the story by cluttering up the chapter with unnecessary words. A key thing to remember when writing a story is that sometimes less is more.

Well, SHIELD could always keep him drugged. That would be a way to contain him.

It depends on what you call a fair fight. I mean if Harry really got serious and pulled out the elder wand I think he would be more than capable of stopping all of them assuming he actually knew a little bit about them and what they could do. It wouldn't be an easy fight in fact it would be incredibly hard, but he could do it. Probably the most dangerous thing about Harry is the fact that once he knows your weakness he can exploit it due to his versatility that versatility gets backed up with power when you factor in the elder wand.

I hope we don't really see Harry go all out for awhile though. There is something charming about his constant misdirection.

I don't think stunners or anything like that would be terribly useful, but if Harry got creative with Transfiguration, then I'm sure he could think of something to bind Thor and the Hulk. Sure, they're strong as all hell, but your strength is meaningless if you can't move at all. A prison, airtight sans holes for the nostrils, would render basically anyone helpless.

    Or, you know, Avada Kedavra.

These are all pointless hypotheticals in any case. Who the fuck cares if Harry could beat them in a straight fight. Everyone has to have strengths and weaknesses. If the Hulk's and Thor's strengths are fighting, Harry has got to be the God of escaping and stealth. Not to mention being good enough at fighting to give them pause, even if he's not able to win a straight up fight. Then there's all the other things magic can do...

Plus, who wants to fight fair anyway. The same idea that would allow SHIELD to capture Harry would allow for Harry to take out nearly anyone. Attack when they're sleeping or otherwise unprepared. He would have a particular affinity for that because of magic.

TL;DR We should probably stop arguing about who Harry could win in a fight against. It's up to the author how he wants to do this, and who he's going to fight against.

    Excellent chapter, Roarian.
