Alright, I found this mostly accidentally:

    [yt]dkhRwss93BM[/yt]

It's a fan made web series about an Auror in New York, supposedly due to start in summer.
There isn't anything else to find, beside the names of writers and actors and that this isn't affiliated with Rowling, but they claim to be fans.

The quality seems impressive, no idea about plot nor anything else.

    Thoughts?

    Found this on the tumblr:

New York City is a battlefield. Dark magic rules the underworld. The NYC Department of Magical Law Enforcement (DMLE) is the only line of defense. Hawthorne is the force’s newest recruit and the dark criminals’ latest threat. Plunging into the nightmare that his occupation offers, he makes quick enemies of the most depraved wizard gang in America: the ever violent, ever twisted Hellhounds. AUROR’S TALE chronicles Hawthorne’s tempestuous adventures.

It seems well done, for fan made stuff. Definitely will check it out.

Well, yeah, there is that, but I figured I covered that with "about an Auror in NY". Everything else is just curtains. ;P
    Also, it's in the video's description ;D.

I mostly meant that there's not much info besides the basic description.

The quality of trailer is the main attraction, however I do slightly fear for where the plot could take us.

Seems pretty interesting. Hopefully all the best parts weren't in the trailer.

First ever Potter fan film? - Auror's Tale

    Or rather, fan series.

    Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkhRwss93BM

Looks a bit cheesy in places, and it's kinda annoying that they stole the "you're a fool and you will lose everything" line straight from the movies, but still, looks like it might be an admirable first serious attempt to make a Potter fanmade live action series.

I got to admit, to see a fandom keep going on after the main parts of the franchise (books, movies) have concluded stands as a testament to Harry Potter's popularity.

I think I'll be following this - I just hope that none of the bad fanon tropes/wank contaminates it.

It's also too old for new replies.

Perhaps I should do so right here...
Have no fear: The slash and mpreg are, I've heard, sensitively portrayed and accomplished with brilliant CGI and prostheses, respectively.

There are more fan films. I just don't think there are any that are any good.

It may be good, or it may not be. I'll have to check it out.

Well, they have started a kickstarter.
    http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1462638575/aurors-tale-a-fan-web-series

That's actually comes off as a bad thing, at least for me. The way trailer was released, it seems that it was aimed just to give more crowd to their kickstarter, as well as probably the only thing they have made yet.
Are they even allowed to do that - that is, is this not kind of making money out of a fan product? Then again, the only thing directly stolen is the term "Auror". No spells are named, no magical schools are named, and no Harrys running around.

The reason for my dislike of the kickstarter model for this web series in particular is this:

Wow, production looks great. Some of those sets and locations are huge, they found some great spots to shoot in.

The last shot in the trailer reminded me of Neo VS agent smith in the subway from the first Matrix.

Actually, when the 'Auror' received his badge, it says DMLE. Also the entire thing is run by a couple of Potter fans, who say they want to portray "the magic of Potter as you have never seen it before". If they're using Harry Potter as advertising for it, then they probably can't make money of it.

Yeah, it all gives off a sort of Matrix-y vibe. Lots of slow-mo diving, black leather and gunshot noises (wtf?).

And they look like muzzle flashes too, which doesn't help. pew pew!

I'm still impressed with the look though, they have some talented DPs and editors working on it.

So the first part of the series is up on their channel. Link here.

It's quality is impressive, but it was far too short to judge accurately. I hope the following parts are longer or uploads are very frequent, but I've subscribed and will watch the next few parts to see what it's like.

EDIT: The description says, "A quick intro into the world of Auror's Tale and the dark wizards inhabiting it." So I assume following videos will be longer.

I have concerns about this considering they used a kickstarter to fund it (which seems like a pretty obvious violation of copyright laws). That said... what they put out was pretty damn good.

First impressions: As is usually the case with fan-made stuff, it looks awesome, has a few good ideas and completely fails at character.

Here's hoping the protagonist isn't the usual plucky hero who inevitably gets involved and is overwhelmed but in the end fights to do the right thing and succeeds. Coz, you know, there's canon Harry Potter for that.

I'd be perfectly fine with that.

My only real hangup so far was with that girl's acting. But besides that, for a fan-made thing it's very good. Hopefully it won't get taken down.
