Again, the once Crown Prince Iroh does not seem the type to have indoctrinate any of his subordinates with that sort of thinking since he clearly did not follow it himself. To say that every firebender learned to bend this way to the last man seems... silly.

I think we've beaten this discussion to death so I'm going to stop now. I'll just say again that I think the reality is that the creators of Korra simply made a glaring continuity mistake for the sake of "coolness" that isn't worth trying to rationalize.

Crown Prince Iroh is not Drill Sergeant Iroh. He didn't personally train all those under his command. As a military nation, the army would have been subject to a standardized pattern of training so that any soldiers could serve in any place under any commander. I agree that Iroh likely influenced them in some ways while they served him, but these men came to him after they had been taught to bend. Every firebender being indoctrinated with the same philosophy was kinda the point, and a heavy theme in the show.

Regardless of whether it's a continuity error or not, it'd be a little funny if you're right and they were using lightning just for the cool factor - it being common, and no longer the awesome talent of god tier benders, is exactly the thing which makes it less cool, and annoyed fans to the point where it hijacks every Korra discussion this way.

BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY AMON IS A ROBOT POWERED BY CABBAGE BIOFUEL

Really not, though. She's a lot more of a calm, collected psychopath: she goes crazy in the end, but even then, when she wields lightning, its in a moment of lucidity: as seen when she shoots it at Katara instead of Zuko.

Mhm. Azula was insane, but it wasn't the suit with extra long sleeves type. At least not until her breakdown. She was always perfectly lucid and absolutely clear in her mind and goals; there was no internal conflict to prevent her using lightning because she was too egotistical to admit she could be wrong.

Tenzin's son is the most badass Air bender ever.

I'm not gonna lie though they made it really obvious General Iroh is Zuko's son by having the same voice actor.

That or his grandson. Really not happy that they're recycling the voice actor though. It doesn't fit this new character at all.

Actually, must be his son considering the namesake. Looks awfully young though.

Is the General Zuko's son, or grandson? I know his daughter is the current Fire Lord, and he's still alive as some sort of wandering ambassador.

EDIT: Ninja'd. Question still stands though.

Well, since we don't seem to be bothering over-much with spoilers...

I wasn't a huge fan of how easily the Airbending kids took out the guys that Lin couldn't get to, but I guess it wasn't that out of left field ability-wise. I did like the oldest girl taking it upon herself to fight, as she's not that much younger than Aang was, but that whole scene was a bit off for me.

Though that might be because I was getting excited thinking we were gonna see the Avatar State -- seeing Tenzin's kids in serious trouble of dying / losing their bending might have pushed Korra over the edge the way everything else couldn't?

Heh, "The baby's coming!" reminded me strongly of that scene in Star Trek: TNG where Keiko gives birth in Ten Forward and Worf has to deliver it. He finds it most inconvenient.

But... OMG the ending of this episode. I won't spoil that, but Lin is a badass.

The re-use of the voice actor didn't bother me that much but I would have preferred they not reuse him. The fact that the guy is named "Iroh" is a clue that he's related to Zuko anyway. Guessing grandson by the age, but maybe not.

I've been disappointed by how easily the benders have been taken down by the Equalists throughout this series. Yeah, the Equalists seem to be good at martial arts, but why are suddenly the benders completely balls at it? I always gathered that martial arts were an intrinsic part of bending. Just look back at stuff from the original series like Agni-Kai, or pretty much any bender fight.

Why the hell are benders so useless vs non-benders in this series? Even without bending at all they should be able to kick some literal ass.

His face tells me son but his voice tells me great great great grandson.
Seriously they don't match at all.

One thing I would like to see would be old Zuko being very similar in demeanor to Uncle Iroh. That would make my day.

Personally, Iroh was the best character in the original series. If Zuko really is still alive in Korra I'd love it if he was similar in demeanor.

Kind, quirky but wise old man who can open a can of whoop-ass on the universe if need be.

Come to think of it, why didn't Shamalamaman cast Dante Basco as Zuko?

I wonder how much of Tenzin's kids being able to take down the Equalists soldiers was due to their age. Yes, the Equalists hate benders, but all but the most hateful and ruthless soldier is going to try to seriously injure a kid, especially one who is eight years old or less. Korra and gang don't count due to being teenagers.
