I stopped playing when I got to Inferno on my Monk and suddenly couldn't kill anything. I farmed Hell for a couple of days but couldn't find any upgrades for the shitty gear I've been using since Nightmare.

I'll wait for patch 1.1 and then jump back in, level a Witch Doctor or something. Diablo II was pretty bad at launch too.

A year and a half. WoW goes roughly two years between expansions.

World of Warcraft: November 2004 (US) / February 2005 (EU)
    The Burning Crusade: January 2007
Wrath of the Lich King: November 2008
    Cataclysm: December 2010
Mists of Pandaria: Likely late 2012 / early 2013

Picture I'm reposting from reddit, which is apparently from 4chan (ah, the internet at work...)

(I seem to be failing at img tags at the moment, so here is a link instead I guess)

Did you guys hear about how the huge lag spikes on the NA servers resulted in massive casualties amongst hardcore players? That must suck so much. Blizzard really needs to get their shit together server side. That said, to Americans complaining about lag spikes - that is what it is like being an Australian, except all the time.

Yeah I know one of my friends lost his lvl 60 HC Wizard to a lag spike during AII Inferno. He took it surprisingly well saying that he was sure it was bound to happen at some point and was surprised it hadn't before then. I think that in itself speaks for how shitty it is. For a paid for game at no point should you "expect" for the blizzard servers to spike and kill you.

I expect all online games to lag at one point or another and kill me. Either it's my own ISP randomly going off, or the server having a hiccup. Your friend is right, anyone who is still playing the mode has expected a variety of lag deaths and knows it's inevitable. Whether or not it's your own isp's fault or the servers fault, the end result is the same. It was the same in D2. The people who played it in single player(Like me) had it easy.

Usually, however, one death means next to nothing. Hardcore really is a difficulty I'd only play if it was offline and I just about only played D2 Hardcore. I doubt they'd even have a hardcore setting if it wasn't just about demanded from D2 players. Hardcore does not fit into D3 all that well.

In D2, if you knew what you were doing, it was pretty easy to get through the game on hardcore. It was harder to do it untwinked(the only way I played), and a real challenge to do it naked. Lag could kill you, but not as quickly as it can in D3. In d2 you could lag and you'd usually be safe, because most characters had the resistances to handle attacks by mobs. It was only some mobs that gave problems. Although I think Esc and Exit was instant in D2 Battle.net. Not sure, as it's been forever since I played online.

In D3, so many of the "challenges" are meant to instant kill you, regardless of what gear you have. In order to get around this, people have been grinding in safe zones just to get gear(Chests and Goblins). How is this a fun way to play?

It's a surprise how many boring hours people will put into a game to achieve something.

However, I did hear that HC has a much better economy because of certain aspects of the game was were never abused and that were hotfixed to quick.

The initial prices on the GB £ Auction House are making me seriously lol.

Some guy put up a Ballbreaker Mace for £100! The average price for that and Law of Arreat seems to be about 4-6 pounds, though.

    A part of me wishes I'd put a couple of quid on my Paypal account sooner due to some of the bargains spotted today, simply ridiculous, examples;

    1300 DPS Xbow - £7.
22% Rare Shield with resist all & extra block %, £9.
Legendary Quiver which would've been great for me, £4.50

... I died a little inside today, alas, waiting till Tuesday for the money to get into my Paypal account, missing ultimate bargain time, and potentially making less of a profit on the few decent items I'm deeming worthy of attempting to make a profit on.

This game is so unforgiving to people who don't dedicate shit loads of time. I'm working part time and taking one summer course (2 hours every day) and still have a lot of time to play. Items that I bought for 1-2mil a week ago are netting me 7-8mil when I upgrade and resell.
This game really needs an item sink.

Of course, that's fair enough. However, the difference is here that people who only wanted to play by themselves with their own game died permanently because of something Blizzard did wrong. Fair enough if the lag is on the players side, or they're trying to play online with others at the time, but this was solely the fault of Blizzard's shitty always online DRM and what has been terrible server quality so far.

If they're going to make people play online so they can make money off the RMAH, the least they can do is actually maintain the quality of their online service. People shouldn't have been waiting days to play their game by themselves, hardcore characters shouldn't be dying due to server lag and Australian's/other affected nations shouldn't be getting lag spikes when playing by themselves every minute or so.

There's a bug that enables you to buy the plan without killing Izual:

Start a new game with the Kill Diablo quest in Hell, leave, and join a public game. That's going to be on Inferno automatically. You can buy the plan from the merchant next to the Healer.

Worked a couple of days ago, don't know if they fixed it yet.

Well, that didn't take too long. Diablo III now has an unofficial LAN server emulator. It's still buggy and some quests don't work yet, but I'm impressed at how quick they got it out.

So i derped and forgot I needed to actually use the plan at Haedrig to forge an item.

Also, Inferno ponies with Mortar and Shield are annoying when you have an ally that likes to hug you ALL day.

Might just be me but I find the Pony champion/rare packs annoying in general on Inferno. Admittedly my gear is pretty bad, only 40k DPS or so so by rights, I shouldn't even bother with Whimsyshire for a long time, but I figured I''d have a look and I just find them annoyingly fast. Naturally so, with their little charge thing, and that's without having fast or them, caltrops does little to nothing and kiting them just doesn't work, guess I need to start looking up these spots where they get stuck.

There's one spot. There are seven parts to the map. 5 boxes and 2 lines. One of the lines is a jagged long one and the other has a hole in the center of the line. The way it is set up (always) is 4 squares forming a bigger square, with one line branching off to the exit, and another line branching off connecting the bigger square to the 5th smaller square, where the entrance is.

On the minimap there are assorted drawings like rocketships and rainbows along the outside of the actual map of the area. The jagged line always has a kitty picture, and that's where they can get stuck. It only works on ponies and if you happen across the group of 4 uniques known as team unicorn, it actually doesn't apply to them (as they are miniatures).

Vs teleporter/mortar/desecrator/frozen, you have to get them into position then fire from off screen. Vs fast ponies, they will actually run around it and not get stuck if you run more than a few feet away from the "stuck" area while getting them into position. And you can expect a death or two if you have ponies on either side.

You should be fine if you are using prep-invigoration and have disc on your quiver/chestpiece along with movespeed boots. I find that with those three things, I can kite ponies all over the map even if they are fast/teleporter/vortex, and I use damage caltrops, not 80% or immobilize.

And if you are at 40k pre ss, you should be more than fine to do whimsy. You will occasionally run into stupid shit like invuln minions extra health fast flowers, but the beauty of whimsy is getting to pull them away. Right now, I find that with 70k dps (pre-ss), I actually can't get the damn ponies to the kitty before they die to caltrops unless they have fast/extra health/shielding. And while I can kill any pony group without the kitty, I still attempt to drag them there so I can put on MF gear for the kill easily.

    RMAH is fucking ridiculous.

People are actually paying up to 100 quid for a fucking sword.

I gotta get in that action, haha.

Would that 100 quid be before or after Blizzard's cut?

Blizzard only gets 1$/£/€, it does not matter if you sell your item for 250 or for 1,25. If you don't want to send the money to your blizzard wallet, PayPal takes a 15% cut.

I always understood it as Blizzard takes a 15% cut if you use an alternative method of payment for your funds outside of their own currency store thing, and then Paypal takes its own additional cut from what's left as is their policy or whatever, can't say I've used Paypal much at all but I'd rather have the money that I've made than have it sit on Blizzards account doing nothing but gathering dust whilst waiting for HotS.

So Blizzard gets the 1x whatever currency you use for posting the auction, then takes an additional 15% if you don't use their own wallet followed by Paypals cut, whatever that is so you'll be lucky to see £70 of that £100 in my mind, but still, £70 for pixels? Yes please.

how does the blizzard wallet work?
Can you get the cash out of it? Or is it a blizzard only currency at that point?

You can't get the money out of it essentially as in, transfer it to any other form of account be it paypal, bank etc. So far as I can remember you can't even use it to buy games, only products like plushies and so on. Essentially it's a waste of time unless you're a die-hard WoW player or want something they've got -that- badly.
