The Boy-Who-Lived and the Last Lantern has updated, again.

    http://www.hpfanficarchive.com/stories/viewstory.php?sid=561&chapter=14

The pace has been slow, but keeps picking up at fairly random periods - this chapter, for example.

I do like that we're being shown a more realistic approach, and I do like many of the diverging elements seen in this chapter, but... I don't know.

I feel as if he's weaving the HP world in too much.

There's also the fact that Voldemort now knows about Harry's identity from the end of first year - to be honest, I'd have personally preferred him to keep up his anonymity for a little while longer.

One aspect of Powers of Oa I did like in particular was Harry's aloofness/private nature - the concept, but not the execution. Maybe that's what I feel is missing from this, since Harry's ostracized/isolated by others/outside pressure, and not by personal choice.

Dumbledore's character development seems realistic, but forced, somehow.

I can understand the reasoning behind Harry and Kara's slow drifting and, heck, it's fairly realistic, but it's like he's just chucked out their development so far out the window.

    Maybe I'm just being a nit-picking douche. I dunno.

I think the Harry/Kara development should be judged on how it's handled later on, when Harry's older. I don't think he's chucked their development out the window, I think that the way he's going is a natural development based on their separation and age difference.

Yes you are a nit-picking douche but in a good way, if that makes sense.

The pacing is a bit off-balance but it could be worse.

The summery is made me avoid this several times, but I am dreadfully bored and wanted to read something crossover'ish.

It's Hermione and Loki centric. Each chapter is a different year at Hogwarts where Loki toys with Hermione. The first chapter was amazingly meh, but subsequent ones are better. I think he has Loki's voice down perfectly as I imagine it would be.

If you don't like Hermione then avoid this. If you do then it's a mild treat of mind candy currently up through fifth year.

It sounds interesting, but it's not really my thing unless it's Harry-centric.

Does he play a role at all?

I looked up that author's favorites list when he first started publishing that story and it's nothing but Harry/Ginny and Harry/Hermione. I believe in one of the AN for this, he wrote that he was going to change the pairings and scuttle Kara.

So I decided to pass on the story.

Nobody plays a role other than Hermione and Loki. I think Krum has a single line in chapter four and Dumbledore and Poppy speak very briefly in chapter five.

I'm normally very Harry-centric and avidly avoid any other stories, but I found this one entertaining enough because of Loki.

Aww, that seriously sucks. That goes to show that the author doesn't have more than a minor clue as to where he or she is going with this story.

So, how about that Death's Knight story?

I don't think he did write that. In his profile he wrote that he thinks Ginny is the best pairing for Harry in a non-crossover but that he's got a different opinion for crossovers.

I hope so - the major hook for his current story is a Harry/Kara pairing, not the over-all DC elements.

If he scuttled that for, say, a Harry/Hermione or an ultimate Harry/Daphne, it'd kill most of the interest people have in the story.

Cross post with the Absentminded!Harry Story Search thread.

I found this just earlier today. I See the Moon is a HP/Avengers crossover that, for now, keeps the focus on a scatterbrained Harry and a post-Hulk, pre-Avengers, on-the-run Bruce Banner. It's a good read, mostly remains lighthearted, features a remarkably well done Not-All-There!Harry (it's actually pretty creatively written), doesn't involve slash and isn't riddled with cliches.

The author states that it will eventually merge into the Avengers plotline, but that there's about three years of Harry and Bruce traveling before it gets to that.

The authors propensity for slash leads me to believe otherwise. The poll about the story in her profile has more slash pairings than not and the current leader is Bruce/Harry. :(

Yeah...I rec'ed it without looking at what was winning in the poll. :facepalm

Well, I put my vote in for keeping it gen. It's probably not gonna win, but I hope it does.

Gen is behind by 5 votes as right now.

    Hopefully it will stay gen.

I hate, Hate, HATE people who poll for pairings -or any other plot element, really.

It's different if it's a very 'under construction' type of thing, like posting here in Work By Author is, sometimes. And, I don't see too much harm in someone polling to see what their readers would like to see, bearing in mind that the poll is just for the author's curiosity and won't actually have any affect on the story.

However, all polling for pairing/plot tells me is that the writer is a silly twat who doesn't have any fucking clue where they're going with their own story.

And -well, whaddaya know- it turns out that most of the time I see this shit, it's from people with their profile crammed full of slash-this and slash-that, who started the story as het, promoted it as het, then said, "I'm doing this poll..."

Fuck every one of these disingenuous, bait-and-switch, con artists.

Are there any stories as good as Wand and Shield?

I didn't really like the "Bruce & brain damaged Harry" one (I like the idea, but not the execution), or the Last Lantern.

Death's Knight is great so far, but there's not much written yet. I'm hoping there's something of similar quality out there that is further along.

I agree with you on Last Lantern. I like the idea but the execution leaves something to be desired. Unfortunately there are very few good HP/Comic Crossovers. You've probably already read the best that there is.

There is, however, a great deal of interest in Harry Potter/DC (and, to a lesser extent, Harry/Marvel) crossovers on DLP in-general, so if you stick around, I'm sure a lot more are up and coming. :)

Caught this by accident - it's -apparently- a Smallville/Harry Potter story...but the OC, who is a piss-poor self-insert from Metropolis, goes to Hogwarts, falls in love with Harry Potter, yadi-yada, you know the shite drill.

It basically follows the format of the whole "Amanda Slytherin Snape Riddle is the blah-blah, falls in love with Harry Potter" shit that is a dime-a-crappy-dozen on FFn's Harry Potter/OC character listing.

Not worth reading, methinks, but I decided to post it anyway.

The biggest problem I have with HP X-overs (and especially HP/Comic X-overs) is that when removed from the HP universe, waving wands around and flying on broomsticks is, well ..... kinda gay

It doesnt come across that way in the HP universe because everyone is doing it, but when Harry is surrounded by superheros it just feels really fruity
