So it's only the smaller things that make you uncomfortable?

If Potter-style wizards visited Opal City and saw Jack Knight flying overhead (as shown), they'd probably say, "That bloke's riding his weird broom backwards."

If you paired up Harry and Zatanna and/or Zatara, it might not feel as out-of-place. Well, maybe the brooms still would.

I think that reason I think that way, is that when I think of the words "magic wand" the image that comes to mind is a plastic stick with a star on top that little girls get for halloween to go with their fairy costumes

    My brain sucks

I think you may be right about Zatanna.

Brooms would still be out of place because with the exception of HP they are usually associated with female witches.

There is always Voldemort style free flying. Since Harry loves flying so much it would make sense for him to learn of it. :sherlock:

No. Just no. Even if it was superbly written Harry just oneshotted the planet in the first 100 words.

Found some more, though most were either slash or so poorly written that they don't even deserve a mention. Trust me on that.

    1. This one has severe slash undertones with Malfoy, even if Harry is -essentially- wanking over Ice Queen Greengrass, and the story itself makes no sense at all.

Click and sick at your own risk.

    2. This one starts out from the basic 'Harry wakes up in Vegas, hung-over and married' challenge that has plagued the Internet, but it's fairly semi-decen in its execution. Out of the current crop out there of DC/HP crossovers, this is an Almost Recommendable level story.

Yes, this challange plagued the interwebs. The problem is that 99.99999999% of these are left unfinished after they leave the hotel, because the author never knows what to do next. They just want to hook up a pair of characters.

In fact I don't think I have ever read a finished one. Odd -- or maybe not.

I read it and it's atypical of the challenge so far. Absolutely nothing original in the slightest bit. Anyone want to make any bets whether or not Kal gives the "Hurt her and I'll hit you with a shovel" speech? Then Harry meets the Justice League and everyone with the exception of Diana hates him. Batman doesn't trust him and acts all... distrustful. Wally tries to prank him, etc.

Granted, I've only read 3000+ words, but I'm going out on a limb and predicting a trend here. :sherlock:

Chapter II is up, Heather. Predictions are running true, thus far.

However, wasn't it Kara who got brainwashed, and not Kal? Unless it's a film/comic difference? Maybe the author is going for an A/U background, here.

Heather's story updated by two chapters, folks - I shamefully admit that I was slow on the uptake, too.

Liking it, Heather. Death's characterization is pretty much perfect, though Diana's "14th century battle cries" did confuse me a little bit; did she actually use that type of language in the comics?

Sadly, yes. they changed a lot of personalities with the New 52 universe. EDIT: I should note that in casual conversation she speaks normally. In the seperate individual titles the characters are more like themselves, but they also take place a few years in the future from the JL title.

I'm getting flames that I've totally fucked up Kal-El's personality as well fucking up everyone elses, but that's getting covered in the next chapter. The New 52 is not your father's comic universe anymore, and Superman is not the perfect little boy scout everyone grew up with anymore.

In Acton Comics #1, in the very first scene, I was shocked to see him actually torturing someone to get a confession out of him. Then there was all the property damage that he'd couldn't give a shit about (though that's not much further then the original either.) And the running gun battles through Metropolis.

Diana, when she first appeared on the scene in Justice League #3 was a stereotypical warrior woman, hack and slash style with the war cries, desire for battle and everything.

Hal Jordan is a egocentric ass.

Cyborg and Flash are pretty much the same.

Aquaman is more like Namor from the Marvel universe, all self involved and holier than thou.

And Batman, by the fourth or fifth issue is whipping off his mask in front of everyone, in public, in an effort to gather them all together to fight Darkseid.

Needless to say, they are all very weird and different.

    Hey a quick question for Heather_Sinclair;
Why is Harry's symbol is an ankh[IMG], instead of this; [IMG]

Ankh is Death's own symbol. Wouldn't it be better for Harry to have his own symbol instead carrying the same one as Death?

Because the second symbol is the sign of the Deathly Hallows and they aren't even that anymore as evidenced by the Death Cloak in previous chapters. As I wrote in the latest chapter, Death wants Harry's acts attributed to her. She wants a presence on the mortal world. There's more reasoning to that in the future. I don't like to throw everything in one big info dump because it simply slows the story down.

But you have to admit, the Deathly Hallows symbol is xInfinity times better for a superhero symbol than the ankh.

One error I noticed in your story, Heather, is that Batman never wore the Black Ring. It was his clone.

Also, did Power Girl introduce herself to JL recently in the comics? I don't follow her adventures in the New52 after her appearance in Mister Terrific, but if I remember correctly she has no history of being PG and knowing Kal-El of this Earth. Or did you simply change it to fit your story as you did with her costume (which was of course a correct choice of action).

And I pretty much prefer Diana's portrait from her own series than from JL.

No, not really. The Deathly Hallows symbol is a triangle, and circle, and a straight line. People would be calling him Geometry Lad or something equally as stupid considering the names they come up with in the DC-verse. And outside of the wizarding world it means absolutely nothing. Even then it's only those that know the story. Seeing as that very same world is much smaller in this story's universe, virtually nobody would understand the significance.

The ankh is well known and actually stands for something, even if it's eternal life beyond death. Plus, it's Death's sigil. She's obviously not going to change it for her avatar. It's as simple as that.

Having the ankh might get confusing if Doctor Fate is ever brought in.

Then again, I haven't seen Doctor Fate in the DCnU, so...

    1. Don't think she has in the reboot. She and Huntress 1.0 have been running around in Japan dealing with atomic monsters and such.

    2. @Heather: The ankh's far more of Doctor Fate's imagery. Wouldn't know much about Sandman & Death's imagery, though.
