Sorry for posting this here, but I didn't find anywhere else to ask my questions. I went to the Introduction Forum but it was closed :(

I found this site recommended on an author's page in FFnet, saying that it's a good place to find really well-written HP fics.

I've peeked at the library but only found fics sorted by title, many of them, and I wondered if there's another way of finding fics, like by Genre, Main characters and things like those.

I'm interested in Dark!Harry fics, very well written, with griping plot and no romance, I prefer action, adventure, suspense and things like those. I prefer the stories to be very realistic, with authors not scared to write harsh scenes with violence or gore, etc.

I've read many fics in Fanfiction.net but always have trouble finding good ones. And the ones I find are always more focused on romance than having good plots. FFnet is being cleaned up now but in the meantime I would like to find good fics here, any recommendations?

Also, I was a bit daunted by the welcome message I received, especially the parts:

"DLP is a nuanced community and has a habit of tearing apart those unprepared.
-Use proper English. We like impeccable grammar and spelling.
-Have a thick skin. We are Dark Lord Potter, and we are not in the habit of being extraordinarily nice. Be strong."

Is it a problem if English is not my native language? I have an acceptable level, I think, but not perfect. I'm half Italian, half Spanish...

Well, anyway, I'll appreciate any guidance and help. Thank you!

    This is your friend.

Just try your best and improve.

STICKIES through out the forum is your friend and LURK for more information.

Also, don't post or start a thread, for small matters. In fact, this is the key rule.

Tagging is your friend. This can let you search by characters and pairings. The library is divided into categories to let you browse by genre.

For recommendations I suggest you check out the C2 on ffn, it's sort of the best of the best from DLP.

As for language, you'll probably be alright. It's generally not a problem if it isn't your first language, although judging from your first post your english seems pretty good anyway.

    Welcome to DLP.

Thank you, the link to the Story Search threads helps.

But is there any thread with recommendations of long fics?
Over 100,000 words, the Epic kind, like Lightning on the Wave's Sacrifices Arc without the angst and romance, the Dune series, Death Note anime, Game of Thrones series, etc...

You can use the tag system to look for fics, or search through the Story Search subforum of Fanfic Discussion to see if there are requests for stories similar to yours (and after searching through the library a while, post a thread in there too listing your requirements - though only after having gone through the library looking).

You can also sort stories by rating, by clicking on the 'Rating' heading in a particular subforum (like the Dark Arts subforum of the library, sorted like this to get the highest rated fics of that genre - and the library is divided by genre, so that makes it easy on you).

As long as you make a decent effort to be coherent (which you seem to be doing), you should be fine as far as the language goes. Just don't act like an idiot and you'll be alright.

I don't have any specific recommendations for you, but take a look at this FF.net community. It's put together by DLP and has some of the best stories in the library, so poking through it should help you find quite a few stories to your liking. Also, of course, check out the library and the story search, as mentioned above.

Edit: Wow, I left this page open a long time before posting. :S

    Welcome, Gia.

Before this thread turns into a global reccing thread of all stories anyone ever liked (EDIT: YES, EXACTLY LIKE THAT INFIDEL -- Let's not do it here, 'k?), let's try and cut that short. The Library is basically the Forum -- divided into sub-categories; the list is just an index of all stories. Typically, your requirement of 'well-written' should be fulfilled by any of the stories regardless their genre, except the oldest ones, so maybe just have a look around?

If there is something more specific you are looking for (>100,000 words, Dark!Harry, no romace would already make a decent query, IMO), I think your best bet is to start a story search thread. The Forum doesn't really allow for that kind of search (although I maybe should start thinking about a No-Pairing tag).

Yeah, what Sesc said. There's far too many goddamn awesome stories to recommend. Although I would definitely check out the "Work By Author" subforum as well as the library itself. Sort by rating and have fun.

    Also, welcome to DLP.

See, this is why the introduction forums were a good thing.

Just look around and don't be stupid. Welcome.

You might also want to page through the DLP 5-Starred and Featured Authors C2 over at fanfiction.net. It's true that you can't sort by a lot of the things you're interested in sorting by, but at least it's in a format where you can quickly/easily see the main characters and word length with a brief summary.

I'll send you an email when your opinion matters. Lord knows I'm all for trolling, but it got tiresome watching the intros turn to a who can troll OP away fastest competitions. >__>

Not going to slam you with recs, but you did say you like Game of Thrones. If you've read the series, try reading The North Remembers. And enjoy DLP :)

Actually, my intro was pretty tame.
