So I was watching videos from SDCC, among them Firefly 10th Anniversary Panel (you can click to watch it too). Then I started to watch the series again and I simply forgot just how brilliant it is.

Then I searched the forum and couldn't believe that I can't find Firefly thread. So I fixed it.

Also, I can't wait to see the documentary they are doing.

What's there to talk about? The show lasted for 1 season ten years ago, and there was a movie 7 years ago. If anyone hasn't seen the show yet, then they are a lazy fuck, because it's one of the best shows out there, it's been on tv a thousand times, and there's a great HP crossover, as well as a great 'season two' story.

 

This thread was clearly created solely to discuss the merits of using ridiculous awesome hats to get cheap laughs.

All manner of rumours and "hints" of the show maybe-sorta-not-really coming back in some way have been making the rounds for years (and many as semi-official sounding as being started by Joss), and yet, Fox still sits on the IP like a douche.

Ah Firefly. One of the greatest things to ever grace the air. I don't know what FOX was smoking when they decided to take it off the air, but it must have been some powerful stuff.

It gets worse. Fox fubbed up on Firefly in almost every way possible. They aired the episodes out of order deliberately (and wondered why the viewership was confused and/or ceasing to watch). They forced the writers/producers to jump through some serious hoops at times, which, iirc, also led to overworking the actors and pushing deadlines at times. The first episode or two, in particular were deeply affected by this.

I remember, at least where I live, that it also changed time spots a number of times. I only ever actually caught firefly on air once or twice. It wasn't until the DVDs I was actually able to watch it in full. I have a feeling this problem was fairly common.

A paranoid person might accuse fox of sabotaging the show by trying to artificially lower the ratings, via shenanigans like this, though I personally believe this is giving Fox too much credit.

tl;dr; It had terrible ratings, because of a number of fuck ups on Fox's end, such that the higher ups likely cancelled it based on the numbers, without realizing that it had less to do with the show, and more to do with company's handling.

 

They were also responsible for the cliche Space Whore character iirc.

But I'm not sure that everyone will agree that that was a bad thing
