Channel Orange, his new CD, is my shit. My favorite CD so far this year and I'm having trouble thinking of anything better from 2011. His album was deep on a personal level and you could tell how much of himself he put into each of his songs. There's even a type of chronology in the way the story line of his life is played out. Thinkin Bout you has the first time he had a crush on a guy, and his attempt at denial when he first realized it. "Bad Religion" has him confessing to a random taxi driver that he's confused about what to do with his life and sexuality. It all ends in "Forrest Gump" when he talks about his first love and first time with him. Of course this isn't the only thing that's going on in the album as he talks about multiple other issues, teenaged families in "Sierra Leone", the fakeness money can bring to your life in "Sweet Life" and "Super Rich Kids"; featuring one of two features he had on the album Earl Sweatshirt, and on the purpose of love and women on "Pink Matter"; featuring Andre 3000. He even manages to talk about the effects crack is having on society on "Crack Rocks". Overall it's a great CD and he gets major props for admitting his homosexuality when the genre he's in, hip-hop, regularly insults and degrades it.

He's Bi, so Im not so sure if "Thinkin Bout You" is talking about a dude.
Also, I was under the impression that it was a one-sided/unrequited type deal with the dude.

Yup, love this record.

 

It's a great fucking song regardless. So is Forrest Gump for that matter.

The best is definitely Super Rich Kids though.

 

Personally I think Pink Matter was the best. And Frank said he and the guy got together like three or four years later. Also I heard Thinkin Bout You was about the dude who said no. The second verse is Frank trying to deny liking the guy, he was being sarcastic about the beach house in Idaho and about the fighter jet to try and offset what he had said and done to the guy.

 

Loved this album. I listened to the whole thing walking around downtown before work, and it was awesome.
I liked 'Bad Religion', 'Pyramids', and 'Super Rich Kids' the most. 'Golden Girl' was funny too. Tyler the Creator is always good for a laugh, imo.
The instrumentals and beats were spot-on. They had a Kanye West vibe to them, but the lyrics and singing were entirely Ocean.

 

I buy whole albums on itunes. That counts right? RIGHT?

 

I find all albums somehow, Have this and going to listen to it tonight before bed most likely.

 

BLAH, I didn't even know about this song, It wasn't included when he dropped the CD a week early on iTunes.

 

Yea I got Golden Girl late. Great song though.
