I remember him releasing a chapter a week until release with Changes. And that was about 5 chapters or so.

 

What a blasphemy is that? 20 posts per page is the one and only true setting.

And Ellisande got it right about preview chapters.

 

Ah I remember when I used to only do 20 posts a page. Then I dared to go into the PYP thread and deleted 100 pages of bullshit, lmfao.

 

So I read the chapter in the bookstore today. Should I spoil it or will I be drawn and quartered if I try?

Harry wakes up in Arctis Tor in a bed the size of his apartment. He's being tended too by a Changling girl named Sarissa, who has been doing so for an indeterminate period of time; this is the first day Harry was able to remember his name, remember Sarissa's name, and actually feed himself.

Then Mab walks in and starts being awesome. As we were told months ago, the first line of the book is about how she has unique views of physical therapy, and this is how. On this day, she nearly smother's Harry to death with a pillow. In the following 77 days, she tries to kill him once a day, in ways including: lighting his bed on fire with him in it, dropping a poisonous snake on him while he was in the shower, locking the door to said shower and filling it up with water before releasing a bunch of piranhas, making a bunch of fire ants come out of his clothes, unleashing a bunch of flesh-eating rats while he was learning to watch, etc. In Harry's own words, 'use your imagination. Mab sure did.' He mentions a crocodile.

We come back on the 77th day, with Harry opening the door to his room to reveal Mab with a shotgun. Harry has to quickly shield himself and then deal with the malk that then attack him, before having to deal with Mab again as she reloads, which ends in him clubbing the Malk with the gun after taking it away from Mab.

Afterwards, Harry has to get ready for a party at Arctis Tor (a birthday party; for who was not stated, but possibly Harry's own), in the process introducing another character; a very old and badass Fae named Cait Sith.

Well, that's what basically happened, but Jim wrote it way better, so you should still pick it up and give it a look if you get the chance. I'm stoked for the next book.

So in other words it's a training montage of Mab preparing Harry to be her Knight and actually surviving more than a week in the Winter Court.

 

He actually refers to it as a montage. I didn't buy the book so I don't have it on hand, but IIRC, he said that in his head it was a montage being played to Walk by...Foo Fighters, maybe?

 

Time to try and find a bookstore. I just realized that since I live in a city now, I can probably get my hands on this.

 

Please let people know when the sample chapter is to be found online. I'm not buying a second copy of ghost story to read it.

Just read the two chapters of Cold Days and I can already tell this is going to be one of if not my favorite book in the series so far.

Technically, yes. The character got the name from the myth.

Short version is that it's a fae cat, along the lines of the grimalkan, that prowled around the Scottish Highlands looking for victims. If memory serves, it was a fairly standard "Here There Be Monsters" story to keep people out of dangerous areas, but it's been a long time since I last read anything about it, so I may be confusing it with something else; 'snot like there's a shortage of monster cats in ancient myth.
