I suppose it's possible that the age-lines are actually scars from getting crushed under rocks. Scars tend to work in very unusual ways in manga.

He's not fucking Obito. Obito wasn't even born when Nagato was training under Jiraiya. It makes absolutely no sense unless Tobi has a time machine that he hasn't bothered to use properly.

All of this is true. Doesn't mean Kishimoto might not try to have Tobi end up being Obito in some way/shape/form. Especially since we have no idea how much of what Tobi's claiming is actually true; he spent a couple hundred chapters pretending to be Madara for ... actually I still have no idea why he was doing that. Sure, he claims to have had something to do with Nagato getting the Rinnegan, but do we know for sure that it's true?

Plus there's other fun possibilities, like body possession or Tobi being some kind of legacy identity held by more than one person (which would help explain the face-concealing mask).

If nothing else, there's the fact that just because something is stupid and/or creates plot holes hasn't always stopped Kishi in the past.

 

Somewhere, Kishimoto is getting the sudden urge to laugh inexplicably.

 

I think Kishimoto is reading bad Naruto fanfiction. *TIME TRAVEL DARK OBITO FIC* Next chapter we'll probably find out that when Obito died the 'female grim reaper' decided to give him another chance at life and sends him back to when the Sannin were chilling

It'll come out that the Uzumaki are related to the Sage through a relation to the Senju (which is how Pein ended up with it) and Naruto will end up with the Rinnegan before the end.

Yes, it's a deliberate use of symbolism on Kishimoto's part. It was also noted that the seal Naruto used on Kurama was like the Sage's in some way.

Perhaps his chakra mode's appearance is because Kurama sees the Sage in Naruto, so it takes a similar shape.

 

Actually, I'm pretty sure that it's already canon that the Uzumaki had some kind of bloodline connection to the Senju clan and the Sage.

 

And Pein/Nagato's Rinnegan was implanted by Tobi. It wasn't something he was born with or awoke which may have been why it was always active.

 

I don't think that it's explicitly stated that Tobi implanted them, only that he had some part in Nagato getting them. Honestly I don't see Tobi just handing over the most powerful bloodline in the world to some random kid in Rain, even knowing what little we now know of the uber-ness of the Uzumaki clan.

I'm sure we'll find out before the end, and I'm reasonably sure that the explanation won't be anything close to what I'd consider satisfying.

Then again, given that Madara is aware of Nagato, it's possible he had Tobi transplant his eyes before he died?

I think it would have been after he died or I don't think he would have been revived with them.

 

My theory is that the Rinnegan is formed when a sharingan is implanted into a descendant of the younger son of the Sage.

Tobi implanted his sharingan into Nagato so that they become the Rinnegan. He allowed Nagato to keep them because the plan was to have Nagato revive Madara and then take them back afterwards.

By this theory, when Madara took Izuna's eyes he also implanted his own in a member of the Senju, his eyes could have been Rinnegan before his death but never implanted back into him or only after his fight with the Shodai Hokage.

 

I have rather stupid theory, we know that there is after-life in Naruto universe. What if someone sharingan's allows to see trough/by it for deceased person (you know Obito and "I will be your eye bleble etc."). Is it possible that Tobi transplanted Madara eyes in Nagato, and from this action real Madara knows about Nagato?

New chapter is up. Next week we'll find out who Tobi is unless it changes fights, either way chapter 600 is only two weeks away and something game changing tends to happen then.

 

I think we may learn who he is in the next chapter and then Kishi will have a flashback explaining everything starting in the 600th chapter, like he did with Naruto's origin in the 500th.

 

Logically, we should still not be able to recognize him. At least not just from the remains of his face. Hopefully an attack that at its most basic form can tear through rock, wood and steel would have little trouble cutting up a face, especially since it's so buffed up at the moment.

So of course his face will be untouched.
