As a general rule, you really shouldn't answer questions specifically directed at other players, although there are exceptions.

But for example, if someone had answered the question I asked Jeopardizer before him, and had given a different take than the one he had in mind, then maybe his point of view would have been influenced by that and we wouldn't have gotten this:

This post is a big towntell, as far as I'm concerned, because the answer I was looking for was more along the lines of "the question was role-fishy", not "the question was role-slippy". He seems to be thinking about his own role possibly shining through because of his question, rather than other players slipping about theirs.

But then what about people who have never even played a mafia game before, should they be asking everyone what they should be doing? Or anytime something new comes up in mafia, ask others what to do?

Anyways, just making my point that I don't like it.

Sorry Stojil if I was not supposed to elaborate on what Mishie said. When I read it it seemd pretty clear and I thought I was just elaborating a bit. It's obviously too late for me to take it back now, so can I ask why you don't agree with the logic?

I really, really, really don't like this exchange. It seems very scripted. Like seriously, way to go on making your scummate seem towny Stojil.

Yep, I fabricated my question, his answer and then my fake impression in my first and second posts of the game.

Well I feel like Bill Door is probably town. In general, people view Stojil as a good player. These are the scenarios and why I think Bill Door is town.

    A) Bill Door is scum, Stojil is town. If Bill actually got a lynch going on Stojil, and Stojil turned out to be innocent, Bill would get lynched in a heartbeat. Losing one scum for once town is probably not a good idea for scum when they could simply do a quiet NK.

    B) Bill and Stojil are both on a scum team, going against each other right from the start. Bold move risking a scum right on day one like that when it could be saved for later when needed.

    C) Bill is town, Stojil is town. Or Stojil is scum. This scenario, Bill actually thinks Stojil is scum and is speaking his mind. Makes more sense to me than a scum taking the spotlight and risking himself day 1.

Of course, with all of the mechanics hidden, scum could have many reasons that we don't know about. Kill protection, etc etc. So then everything I said can go down the drain easily. Just don't think for a normal mafia game that a scum would do that right away

I don't think Bill is scum at the moment, but what you pointed out isn't always the case. Actually, lynching someone who seems to have a connection to another player can be very useful (hence justifiable - it can go both ways) in this kind of games with role-flips after death, since it gives you the chance to draw conclusions about both of those players (besides those wagoning).

Angelrick lets see. Bad feelings. His later posts were better (as in nullish) but that first post.. wow. He starts out pushing hard against any kind of claims, soupkills in a closed 13man set up ok, fills his post with the worst kind of basic mafia how-to filler and then the massive assumption that there are all kinds of vanilla town roles.

He backs away from that with the derpy 'balanced = simple' logic train but I get the feeling its more of a balanced = balanced situation and Rick happened to know how balanced it should be.

    Hello everyone.

I just finished up my last class of the term an hour ago so that's why I haven't posted yet.

Reading through the thread I see a number of bad posts but the following one stood out to me as worst:

First, the case on Jeopardizer is bad - fontisian tosses out a lot of vague suspicions with no reasoning and then refuses to commit to any of them, ending with "null". This is a common scum tactic: Try to stir up suspicion on a town player, without committing too strongly to it. That way if nobody goes for it, he can just drop it and try something else, but if anyone agrees, he can push for a mislynch.

There's also the bit about a "third faction" which is simply nonsense.

Next fontisian moves onto some light buddying toward Stojil, a strong player. Then he says LochNess is town - again with no real reasoning. Now, posting town reads on page 2 of a game is dangerous for town, because (among other reasons) you could be defending scum and making it easier for them to get by.

But if you're scum, you don't have to worry about any of this. Not only is it an easy way to look like you're scumhunting and posting legit reads, the target might say "oh fontisian's got my back, they must be town". And if at any point LochNess flips town, he will look good for having defended her.

Then he ends with some busywork of asking lurkers to post - again, trying to create the appearance of content where none exists.

I find this post particularly suspicious since fontisian wasn't asked to give any of these reads, except for two. It looks very much to me like scum who was put on the spot by Stojil and squirmed around trying to come up with something to say, trying to look like he's contributing as much as possible, but not really helping town at all.

So uh, do you have access to information that we don't, because as far as I'm aware this is a closed set up, in which third part roles are pretty common... Also, whilst I do agree that the conversation between Stojililiil and Jeopardizer looked a bit off, I think it's a bit early to say there's anything concrete.

Actually, looking over Rubicons post, it REALLY doesn't look that good, he's immediately assumed that Jeopardizer is a town player and that fontisan MUST be scum to accuse him, and does anybody else find it interesting that right after trying to make Jeopardizer out to be a town player, he then gets antsy about fontisan giving town reads?

Mishie said earlier, you assume Jeopardizer as town immediately. Why?

You...this isn't the first time you played mafia. There is always a possibility.

No, he did not specifically say LochNess is town. He's saying LochNess gave off a town vibe.

    :facepalm

Chances are, if the lurkers don't post at all, the following may happen:
    1) Mod replaces the lurkers
    2) We lynch the lurkers, since they aren't contributing anyway or could be possible scums that doesn't know what to do.

Asking lurkers to post is pretty...normal. In fact, +ve town, because scums may make use of the fact that they are lurkers to push a mislynch on to them.

:facepalm What? How is that suspicious?

Bill Door asked him the questions. When did Stojil come in? I'm not so sure about the "put on the spot" part, and I can't say for sure whether fontisian is town or scum.

    --

Let me sum out what you just did with this one scummy post of yours.

    1) Instantly assume that Jeopardizer is town. (or you are scum and already know he isn't scum)
    2) Not considering all factors, which is detrimental in a closed set up
    3) Flips mud
    4) Flips more mud
    5) EVEN MORE mud
    6) lynch vote on fontisian

Funny though that other people are voting to lynch Sacrifice. I started off with that vote cause I thought it was punny.

    But seriously,

I mostly agree with Kalas's reason for voting you.

Still I'm also suspicious of Jeopardizer because of the way he puts people on the spot with questions that seem like role-fishing.

I'll play Devil's advocate here and say he did something similar post #22.

So atm, my reads are all over the place and most of those I am suspicious of are tearing into each other.

I'll say I didn't really like AngelRick defense consisting of 'No u!' and flailing, nor what followed; other than that Rubicon, fontisian and Riley Poole are names I keep an eye on. (Rubicon and fontisian for reasons already stated, Riley because while he did answer my question (and questioned it :p) it's all he did.)

    So for the moment:

Hmmm... it's always the first post with me.. I assumed when Eido told me about this game, he said there would be more balance, and more vanilla than in GOD (we've played an HP closed role setup before) where we had no vanilla. Unfortunately, I assumed too much and thought there would be more vanilla, when even 1 vanilla is more than none. I agree I derped on that.

I do take issue with your claim on my views of claiming. My first post said that people with useful information should step forward if they know it will help town. Not at all what you claimed I said.

Did you just say that you want to lynch Sacrifice because you agree with the reasons given by Bill Door but you're also suspicious of this guy?

Stojil or Jeopardizer, to see if there's a connection. Plus Riley... for that post.

Rubicon however is just killing my head. I want to lynch him for his comment about lurkers, but he was spot on with Fontisian. I didn't get the “assuming Jeopardizer is town” vibe. I got the “your reasoning sucks” vibe.

I'm going to throw a vote on Jeopardizer. Hmmm I can be lynched though if you guys think it'll help town. I'd eat up an NK for town, but my death won't hurt us.

Even mentioning a soup kill is a giant, flashing 'Don't Claim' neon sign Rick. You tried to offset that by saying speak up/claim if you have mechanical evidence someones scum, but really? There's duh and then there's duuuuuuuuhhhhh.

I believe we do have a few people who haven't played in a while, or it's their first game. I figured it'd be worth mentioning. I'm not sure why you're tunneling on it Kalas.

There could easily be a third faction in this game. Fontisian made a very specific claim that I think is nonsense, and that wasn't it.

Since I do not claim that there are only two factions in this game, it follows that Fontisian could be scum as well.

Or they might use the fact that you think this is a towntell to convince you they're Town Doing Important Town Things when they're really scummy as fuck and plotting your demise.

The first two points are just wrong for reasons that should be obvious, but I agree completely with the others. Fontisian is scum and I want him to die.

---------- Post automerged at 07:16 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:14 PM ----------

Blech, I meant Jeapordizer, not Fontisian. It follows that they could both be scum.
