It originally was enervate, but it was later changed to rennervate. This was because enervate means to weaken while rennervate to energize. It was one of the things changed when the revised edition came out according to the lexicon.

 

Yeah, that's not a misconception. It's ennervate in the original GoF. JKR renamed it in the mid 2000s.

Edit: I looked up her reason for doing so. Apparently the etymological root of ennervate means 'to weaken'.

 

Until recently, I thought Ginevra was Ginerva. In that context, at least as far as I'm concerned, ignorance was bliss. Ginevra sounds utterly ridiculous to my ears; Ginerva rolls off the tongue much more easily for me.

Back when DLP still used reputation points, I got anonymously neg-repped for using 'Ginevra', and was told that it was actually Ginerva.

I was not pleased.

What has me wondering is the fact that 'Xenophilius' presented less of a linguistic challenge to my mind than Ginevra. Hah...a name that translates to Strangelove(r?) Lovegood.

Which reminds me...did anyone else think 'Bartemius' was a bit much? Spent a long time reading that as Bartemus. Although that could be an American thing.

And I prefer Ginevra over Ginerva; the latter just sounds strange to me. Though something like Minevra instead of Minerva would be weird.

 

A sad one I blame on being very young. Seamus was Seam-Uss, not Shame-uss. My mum corrected that one pretty quickly, but still.
