Naw fuck that, Doctor Who is all about the eye candy. And Male's on Dr Who tend to be cringeworthy at best. Rory only became decent in the second season.

If the writers wrote in a good male character, I'd be all for it. It'd be a different dynamic, at least, rather than the usual "OH HAI DOCTA, ME SO HORNY, KIS KIS" shit that happens. I refer to, of course, Amy in the first series.

I don't think that making a companion a male would save us from romance drama between him and the Doctor. :p

I guess I should preface my comment with the fact that i've only watched the new Doctor Who.

Anyway, I do agree with Jjf88, IF the writers wrote a good Male Doctor Who character, I'd have no complaints what so ever. However, considering Mickey and rory for the first season, I don't have much hope. Rory never became great, but he became a lot less bad.

Come off it, Rory was a complete badass until Amy decided to show her face again, seriously, he became a figure of mythic proportions, literally.

Female romance companions probably won't happen anymore because the writers don't want the Doctor to become an adulterer. Although River probably wouldn't mind, considering she's not married yet.

Regardless of gender I just want a companion who isn't special in any way, isn't the key to saving the universe or has some contrived time travel shenanigans involved in her life story (as with River and apparently Oswin, though hopefully they don't go that way with her). And just goes around having adventures in the TARDIS until she hops off and gets on with her life.

Though I'd have no problem with a 'special' companion if they were alien or from the far past/future or something other than 21st century 'normal' (but don't worry we'll reveal that the universe couldn't exist without her 5 episodes in) english girl.

Or Wilf, another Wilf would be fantastic.

I don't remember Wilf is it from the old episodes? Or maybe something just went over my head.

So essentially what you want is Martha? Martha was a great companion, so was Donna for that matter, you know, until she went all part timey-wimey.

Wilf! Wilfred! Donna's grandfather! Don't you remember him?

...is how I remember him. I didn't bother paying attention to his name, tbh.

his interactions with the Doctor were one of the few good elements of the End of Time.

I'd be quite happy having Brian Williams/Pond back. Guy beat off a pterodactyl with a trowel, he's more than welcome!

So, A Town Called Mercy? Decent enough, I guess. Nice to see a few more shades of grey than usual, and the Doctor losing his shit was cool (although I did eyeroll at Amy solving that). Not as much fun as last week though, and quite...safe, I suppose.

It was rather tame wasn't it? Not quite what I was expecting from a western themed episode, but it did the job well enough. Honestly though, I feel that the instances where the Doctor loses his shit are some of the best aspects of the show, because it really does demonstrate the sheer power that he wields, the writers typically make him so human that it's easy to forget that he's ended entire civilizations.

Donna's grandpa killed the tenth doctor, fuck him, seriously though before that he was cool. As for Mr. Williams, totally, the man actually carries a trowel, he's earned it.

I wasn't really a fan of the Doctor losing his shit but that may just be because of how it was resolved. Amy's attempt at a morality talk made it seem like the Doctor was just having a tantrum or something.

You can't just blame Wilfred for Ten's death. I mean there was a lot of stuff going on and a lot of confusion. Honestly, I was really happy when Ten died, I was getting tired of everyone falling in love with him. That and the way he would suck air in between his teeth and go "Well..."

    EDIT:
Just wanted to ask a question. Who is your favorite who companion? I like Donna, then again I've only see the new who.

Now that RTD is gone anyway. Anyone remember the constant flirting between Jack and The Doctor? The best thing that I can say for it is that it wasn't completely sappy and heavy.

What you mean that person who actually got over the Doctor and was thus hated by everyone else because she didnt/no longer relied on him for everything?

    XD

I liked Martha... More than Rose anyways.

I liked Donna too. When she argued with the Doctor it felt more like two equals doing it, rather than the high horse, 'I know better than you' attitude Amy tends to go with.

It also helped that they cut off any prospect of romance early on, so they could just focus on the story. Then again, given what happened to Donna, maybe they should have just had them shack up and be done with it. >_>

I enjoyed the Martha series. She used her skills to help the Doctor, rather than just Deus Ex Machina. Having said that, I will also look fondly on Rose and the 10th Doctor's episodes because there was chemistry between them and because I love David Tennant.

    David Tennant + Moffat's writing - Shitty companions x3 series = win
