Are there any stories with an overly powerful megalomaniac, cartoonishly arrogant or narcissistic Harry and with a strong degree of self-awareness about how ridiculous that sounds? I'd prefer something that was intentionally trying to be funny with some self-aware humor as opposed to something trying to seriously do that.

Self-aware balls to the wall humor is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine.

EDIT: And scratch that, just found a story like that.

How are these the same people, other than them sharing the first 3 letters in their name?

I'm looking for a two-part story involving Hermione, George Weasley, and time travel.

The first part, which I think was a one-shot, is pre-travel. Everything's a mess, Hermione is deeply in love with George, and both are somewhat Dark. Not sure if it was explicitly stated, but at George's behest, Hermione creates a Horcrux so her information/personality can travel back in time and save Fred. The sequel deals with the effects. Do recall that Hermione and George do not become a couple in the sequel. I think the author was female, but remember nothing else about it.

Out of Time and Shattered Moments by Rurouni Star on ffn.

The stories are about a third year Hermione who takes in Sirius Black because he claims to have already met her. The Hermione he met said she would help him. She proceeds to spend the year hiding an escaped convict.

The plot twist with George and Hermione comes from a Riddle-esque flashback mid-series as Hermione discovers the future(s) the time turner had come from and what Horcruxes are.

I distinctly remember being impressed with the series because of how canon the backstory turned out to be - despite Deathly Hallows having only just been finished as the second story in the series was wrapped up. Take that as you will.

Herwald von Einzbern and the Philosopher's Stone and it's sequel are the fist ones that come to mind, but it's not all it's cracked up to be. At face value, it's a series about Harry being adopted by the Einzberns from FS/N, learning to be an alchemist, getting together with the FS/N cast, then attending Hogwarts.

What it quickly becomes is Edward Elric and the Philosopher's Stone, with hardly any mention of the FS/N side. Sure, it's Harry Potter as an alchemist, but eh...

I think third sentence of the AN is now the soonest I've given up on a story that I started reading.

Wait, so it's an FS/N / FMA / HP Cross?

Where Harry Potter learns FMA Alchemy from the Einzberns?

    ...wut?

From the onset, it was supposed to be a straight HP/FSN crossover. Harry gets adopted, he and Illya go off to war (which is covered and concluded in a single chapter), and then he gets his Hogwarts letter.

The thing is, the brand of alchemy Harry ends up using is pretty familiar.
Anyone recognize that? The author even states flat out that:
It's fine - hell, it's fanfiction - but FMA alchemy probably shouldn't be anything like FS/N alchemy. The Einzberns make homunculi as often as they make food, the mechanics are completely different between prana and natural energy, and the list goes on.

Anyway the end result is Edward (Elric) Einzbern and the Philosopher's Stone.

"If you have any ideas for Herwald's harem, tell me in reviews,m but don't just list names, gimme reasons and plausible scenarios." From the author's note at the beginning of Chapter 3.

Glad I just skimmed a wee bit and didn't waste any actual time reading this.

Every Harry Potter/Percy Jackson crossover is either "Hogwarts goes to Camp Half-Blood!" or "Camp Half-Blood goes to Hogwarts!"

Oh, and I almost forgot the whole "Omg Percy and Harry are brozers!" crap.

I can think of only one or two stories that are semi-decent, one of them being written by a DLPer. (Harry gets chucked into an alternate dimension, and gets adopted by an intrigued Hecate).

Does anyone know of any more decent ones?

^ This. Oh so much. I don't think I've ever read a decent PJO story, much less a decent cross.

Ryuugi's PJO/DF crossover, Deep as the Sea, is pretty good, for what's there. It's actually a full crossover too, which is cool.

I enjoyed canon for what it was, a young teen series.

The plots... pretty much all the plots in all the stories were and still are very formula based.

Percy has minor adventure before camp
    Percy goes to camp
Percy gets weird prophecy and goes on quest
Percy and company have three problems to overcome, usually in the form of Greek monsters and or gods.
Percy and company make total fools of beings that are thousands of years old, who are much more experienced and wiser than a pre-teen.
Percy and company win and make it back to camp to get a bead to put on their necklace.

The Egyptian series is very much the same, only with a brother and sister instead of just Percy.

What I'd really like to see is fan fic that is something totally different, perhaps with a little more depth to the plot. Maybe a villain that is more than two dimensional and shows more intelligence than your average grapefruit.
