That's an incredible voice. Billie Holiday sounds like a hag with throat cancer in comparison.

She's obviously got a great voice for jazz, especially. Will be interesting to see what they have her singing on the X Factor - not normally the home of much jazz.

That's why she stands out so much.

I think the reaction to her shows something. I predict a mass fatigue to manufactured pop music fairly soon. How many Justin Biebers and Taylor Swifts and flash sensations can you tolerate? The prevailing attitude will be "Why do we have so many goddamn clone celebrities".

And these jazzy songs and ballades are from the genesis of American music, ala Irving Berlin and the songwriters of that era. All of modern pop flows from that body of work. Vocal jazz isn't that huge a leap from the stuff that's in vogue now. I don't think jazz piano and sax are going to erupt anytime soon, but musical sociology has been pushing toward great jazz singers again.

The media senses that too. The headlines hailing a "real talent" and a "true voice" are waiting to burst. Marketing-wise, it's gold. The "genuine talent", embodying the golden age of American music, put on the pedestal in counterpoint, tarring the Justin Biebers and whatnot that the music industry churns out.

The only resistance would come from the teens and younger 20's. Which is fine. We need appropriate club and party music, that won't change.

But at some point, one of the legit, great voices that emerge, like Carly Rose Sonnenclar's, will make waves.

Edit: I don't think she'll even end up selling out and switching to pop. she's just plain viable as a star prospect. Her voice is that good, and her song selection is intelligent. She'll pick songs like these two, and as long as she does, she'll be successful.
