Stop being a douche. Marvel is a big universe. I don't see why the author shouldn't be able to pick and choose which characters to include as he pleases.

Nice... I will agree with any cameo decisions you make as long as they don't suck. Also a prereq is the need for Rocket Raccoon to be involved sooner then later

    Lol.

While this fic is enjoyable so far, I am afraid there is a possibility that this fic might well spiral out of control.

There seems to be a lack of an end in sight for me to fully enjoy the story. I tend to avoid stories that will be abandoned without before I have a rough idea how the story is going to end.

Is Harry aiming to go back to this world after some time? How long is Harry going to stick around? How much longer will the story last before we can hope to see some sort of final confrontation?

What are you going on about? This story hasn't even finished rounding up all the heroes in the protagonist hero-team, and you're demanding that the author start wrapping things up to end the story? At this point there's only been two major clashes, only one of which involved the Avengers team in its current entirety.

The insinuation that the author is going to abandon this fic with absolutely no evidence to support that claim is simply the icing on the cake of senseless ramblings that you just served.

Eh, I left that post unanswered because honestly I thought it didn't deserve much of a reply.

In any case, with Thor on the horizon, gathering the major players is getting there. That said, the 'final confrontation' won't be some three-chapter thingy, even with the current size of the chapters. Though the big bad will become clear soon and tie together those events which have already happened.

And yeah, don't intend to abandon this. Should be obvious.

I never said the author is going to abandoned the fic. I am saying that the author has yet to give us an idea when the story is going to end.

Most HP fics gave us a clear idea as to when it would end, even if it is an AU fic. We know that most fics intend to end the story when Voldermort is defeated, it would take about seven years ( if the story begins when Harry is in his first year) for Harry to defeat him.

This story have yet to give us any hint as to what sort of resolution the author is aiming for. The story, like Harry Potter, seems to be rather aimless so far. Take a look at what is happening to Delenda Est and see how the author have lost his sense of direction. I do not want this story to end up like Delenda Est.

I do have to ask this... Do you read comics? We're talking about a universe where nothing ends. The reason you don't see an end in sight is because of the fact that in comic books there usually isn't one. They typically go point a -> point b -> point -1 -> point c -> point 54.

This fic does very well with its feeling of being a comic book. When the end comes it will be exponentially more epic than what's happened so far. As it always is with comic books.

I was hoping this fic would avoid following the plot structure of comic books. It's a little exhausting to keep track of fics if it is never going to end and it becomes harder for any editor or author to ensure there is a lack of plot holes.

The reason I prefer the movies and the cartoons over the comic books is it is far easier to follow them than the comics.

I do have an overall plan, you know, including a conflict that will round up the entire story, but we're not there yet.

It is true that I took a page from the comics (hah) in for example having fairly clear sections of a few chapters that are really chunks of one big chapter, e.g. the Bruce-related story and the recent A.I.M. one.

I think if you've picked up on any of the rather obvious foreshadowing or know a little about the movies and comics, you can probably guess where it's going. the big bad will become apparent soon with the Asgard arc, which I guess will help you?

To be honest, I just thought the ending to the story was going to culminate with the confrontation with Thanos. It seems logical to me that he is the big bad in this story, what with Death being involved and all. As for when this is going to occur, I assume it will be sometime after the events of the Avengers movie.

Does anybody here watch The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes? I watched season 1 on netflix awhile ago and it was awesome. I just found season 2 elsewhere online and I am so fucking happy right now. Between this story and that show, I am living the Avengers dream right now.

Not to dig up skeletons, but if you're going to quote me, I'd appreciate it if you quote the whole thing, and not edit parts out.

As to "not understanding" the complaint, I'll make it simple.

You said this was the movieverse.

    This is not the movieverse.

    That annoys me.

Simple. All of the things that made the Marvel Movieverse continuity unique and interesting (and if the most recent Marvel reboots are anything to go by, worthy of imitation) are absent or have been deliberately left out and overwritten with, wait for it, things taken from various comic continuities.

Everyone knowing Iron Man is Tony Stark from the outset? Axed, in favor of the (by now tired and stupid) stock explanation that Iron Man is Tony's 'Anonymous Bodyguard.'

The background for the Hulk? Completely overwritten with something from the comics.

Thor? Hadn't even freaking shown up yet at the point where I stopped reading.

    Neither had Captain America.

Explain to me, please, exactly how this has anything to do with the Marvel movieverse? Why are you calling it that? Because that label carries with it certain expectations for the reader, which, by the nature of your choices, weren't really delivered upon.

Now, the Hulk background I could cheerfully overlook, on the grounds that the movie background for the Hulk is, at best, lackluster, and at worst, horrible. But seeing how you've also axed out literally everything else from the movies? Even the really cool parts from Iron Man that the mainstream Marvelverse is now trying to put in because it was so popular?

Because that's actually a thing. People liked Tony Stark publicly being Iron Man so much that it's being worked into his mainstream continuity identity. It is, apparently, going to become a feature of Iron Man Prime, as the parlance could say.

Why would you do this? I think it's a very relevant question, not just because I think the fic would have been better with these things, and thus would like to know your thought process on deciding to discard them, but also for the labeling expectations thing, which was kind of a letdown. Just because it's good vanilla icecream doesn't mean I can't ask questions when the label says chocolate.

I actually kinda agree with Lord Raine to a degree.

Don't get me wrong--I love this story, where it's headed, and would like to see it continue. It's just that it doesn't give off all that much of a movieverse vibe anymore. When it first started, since I had seen all the movies that go into the continuity, I knew what the back-story was behind the events. Why Tony was in the desert, who Natasha was, why Bruce was in South America, etc. But then you added in a comic reference here, a character there. Some of the changes were good, some bad. The whole Tesseract/Seidhr angle is great and is basically Harry's movie thrown into the mix, weaving in and out of the other movies much like Coulson has.

But then we got things like AIM, Doctor Pym, the drones, Tarleton, etc. Now I'm not sure of my foreknowledge anymore. There's just so many shout-outs, cameos and crossovers that it feels like a completely different story than what it was in the first couple chapters in more than just tone.

But like I said, I still enjoy the story and want to read it. It just feels less like a HP/Avengers crossover and far more of a HP/Marvel crossover now. So I kinda get where Lord Raine is coming from.

Why does it have to be copy of the movieverse plot? I prefer an unique plot which surprises me or at least where Harry actually makes a real difference. Keeping the movieverse characterization is more important to me.

P.S. Haven't we seen enough crossovers where Harry is just inserted into the movie script without any real impact?

Yes, anyone who has spent any amount of time on FFN has seen too many mindless Harry insert fics. However, even without all the comics elements present in the story, there was and is a lot of changes that have been made within the movie-verse storyline already: Harry has a foreshadowed meeting with Thanos and Death, meeting Sif before Thor will have deep repercussions on the entire plot of the Thor movie, with Bruce gaining a measure of control and acceptance of the Hulk means that there really isn't any need for him to 'break Harlem', there's an entire subplot of Harry trying to figure out what happened to the wizards that would make a great story on its own, and more.

The little elements that are added from the comic-verse just feel unnecessary for a deep and engaging plotline--Roarian did a masterful job of that even without them. Not all the non-movieverse changes are bad or detrimental, though: including Spiderman doesn't feel too out of place and actually fits in, so to speak. The Reed Richards comment was a nice little nod towards the other movies that weren't included in the Earth-199999 (movie-verse) continuity that I wouldn't mind seeing from time to time. (Of course there arise Fridge Logic questions of where the mutants are, not to mention of how the Fantastic Four didn't join in at the battle of Manhattan, considering that their and a few other hero's bases are in that city).

There's already quite a bit of material to work with, not only from the main components of the Avengers movie, but with the other Marvel-verse movies that have been released recently. So much so, and with such easy access for the casual watcher--not to mention that a far greater number of people have watched the movies as opposed to the comics--that elements that come from the comics are unnecessary.

Perhaps the comic elements were meant for those who had read them to get little--fangasms?--for seeing them included, and were intended for the uninitiated to be able to understand what is going on, but from my (uninitiated) perspective, it feels more like hearing two people laughing uproariously over a joke they say you had to be there to get--left out of something to the sidelines a bit.

Hmm, comes off as harsher than intended. Ah well, got my point across I think.

    :)

I understand - the Iron Man part had more direct connection to one of the movie plotlines, compared to the entire Bruce & Tarleton sequences. Since the latter have basically covered like 8-10 chapters now, I can see why people say this.

    Understood.

Well, the plots of Cap and Thor are obviously essentially unaltered by events so far - Sif's different in Thor's a bit, but other than that they are more or less on track. The entire AIM storyline is part of the big bad's stuff, which is basically the original material that ties in with Harry's story as well. Pym, the drones and Tarleton are all part of that too, and most of that is basically done for a while, with the destruction of their original plan. This means we're headed back into some more directly movie-inspired material. The shout-outs and cameos (relatively few, Spidey being the largest I guess, stick around) are basically ones to either the comics or to other movies within the greater marvelverse. Not all those characters exist here, such as the mutants, which would make the world a dramatically different one unless they were -just- appearing.

Aye aye, I will reconsider the course this ship is sailing. Ahoy.

    ---------- Post automerged at 16:21 ---------- Previous post was at 16:14 ----------

Yes, the changes are pretty pronounced, though this is in part because I want to avoid retreading everything. Some bigger things are still in play, such as much of Iron Man 2's events overall, Thor, Everything Cap basically (most of which we don't see in canon anyway :( ) and of course the Avengers itself. Loki and his acquisition of the Tesseract aren't too weird within this fic, I'd think, even if things stand a little differently now.

My logic here was that this was preceding the event that created the FF. Of course, the movies don't really reference each other so I'm not sure if making it anything more is necessary. AIM, Tarleton, the Titanium Man etc. are all canonical in the movieverse via the tie-in games and so forth, but most people haven't seen that material and the details aren't in those game of course.

If you have specific ones you wanted to mention as bad, I'd look into it for you? A good chunk of them, if they really don't fit too well, could easily be edited or removed entirely. Particularly minor references.

I suppose. Most of them are so tiny people don't even notice though. E.g. a private Walters here or there wouldn't mean anything to most people.

Well, I can understand the position well enough - now it's a matter of figuring out what to do about it. :p

    ---------- Post automerged at 16:31 ---------- Previous post was at 16:21 ----------

Because I'm going with largely the history of the movieverse, which has more in common with this fic than any particular comics continuity does. A mainstream comics reader couldn't possible read this fic without considering it a whole separate continuity, same with ultimate. Aside from some minor details, the background is still that of the movies.

I didn't want to copy the movie, but Tony unmasking is pretty inevitable. Just to paste it on there seemed a poor choice at best, particularly when the events here didn't really paint him in the best light there. Rather save it for when he was being particularly awesome. So yeah, if you really like that, don't have to wait too long.

As for Bruce's backstory - the one in the movies was poor as you said, and even the ones in some comics are questionable. The one with his father seemed to fit the movie version well enough without outright contradicting it, and it is a valid storyline that's been used for the Hulk before, without just inventing something out of whole cloth. I certainly wasn't going to copypaste the nonsense out of 'Hulk'.

    This is awesome!

It's almost like people have different opinions about things!

Anyway, I acknowledge your critical rebuke. Now, there is a court case scene to be written. Iron Man 2 stuff. Hopefully you will appreciate it :)

Sidenote: the chapter is not yet done, but I'm working on it. Since it represents a slight timeskip since the last one, we'll be picking up at IM2 and Thor.

The idea of this being not the movieverse because the plot is different is fucking hilarious. What the fuck do you think fanfiction is?
