    Ned Stark Lives!
Author: cbstevp What would have happened in Westeros if Ned Stark had lived? An alternate version of George R.R. Martin's Game of Thrones series of books.
    Rated: Fiction M - English - Fantasy - Chapters: 37 - Words: 327,252 - Reviews: 332 - Favs: 181 - Follows: 222 - Updated: 09-20-12 - Published: 05-25-12 - id: 8149463

I liked this story. It gives an account of what would happen if Ned stark lived. It uses many different POVs and it was nicely handled.

If a story has words in the title, 9 time out of 10 it's going to suck.

    Story rec:
    http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2949422/1/Alone-Together
Alone Together by Failte200 (Kim Possible story) "Kigo. Kim and Shego are straight, archenemies, and trapped in an alternate reality, just the two of them. This is how they fall in love."

I found it pretty good, actually. There were a few things that annoyed me about it, but I haven't seen the actual show in years and I still found this easy enough to follow. At 100k+ words and complete, it's a pretty decent way to kill an afternoon or two. It's femslash, obviously.

So I went and I updated that Submission Archives post over the HP section, and slapped togeher a new Other Fandoms edition. None of you really care about that, so we can move on to the reason I'm posting this here.

Any HP related items, regardless of dominant fandom, has been posted in the HP version, for sake of simplicity. Youre free to keep posting them here, if the dominant fandom is not HP, but the links will go in HP anyway.

Yeah, that was a good timewaster with a dash of nostalgia. Don't think I've ever read a femslash fic before either.

I'm only on chapter 13, but it's been a pretty good read for the most part. I will say, though, that
after they return to The World, the story seems to slow to an absolute crawl compared to the first half. It was hard enough getting through Kim's homophobia/insecurity the first time, and that was when they were all alone with no one else's opinions to care about. Now it's just a pain to read about a teenage highschooler's shame in her sexuality. Especially after she had already dealt with it years prior. Damn, that memory loss really fucked them over.
I'll keep reading it because I do want to finish it and see where it goes, but I'm practically reading this story at a paragraph per sitting now so it might take a while for a final review.

Found this recently, and a nice contrast to most other Naruto fics. Naruto is a womanizing, violence-prone leader of a hidden village of Missing-Nin. Starts off about 7 years after the original series.

Ah, Mr. Cynical. His stories are amusing if nothing else, and the writing is sound, but they all follow the same basic plot. Protagonist gets mysterious power up that is hinted at, takes several levels in badass, and makes everyone else weep with envy. Girl that was mean to him in childhood sees this, creams her panties, and is denied for a girl who saw his potential all along.

Search only turned up the quality naruto thread, which doesnt really have all that much info. Found Naze? by Oramo.

Up to chapter six, and dont really see it as library quality, so I figured I'd toss it here.

Anyone else read it and have an opinion on this one?

Naze never did anything for me, good idea but the execution left alot to be desired. Still it's a decent time waster if you don't mind its faults.

My response to pudgypudge's Jiongu challenge. Watch as Naruto is trained by Kakuzu to be a powerful ninja and bounty hunter, and follow him as he discovers that his new life requires a payment in blood to live successfully. Jiongu!Naruto; Naruto/Fū

I'll throw this one out there.

    Things I like:
Naruto isn't stupid nor is he a 'genius'.
Kazuzu is done pretty well IMO.
It's two chapters away from being finished apparently.
    No shadow clones or rasengan.
    decent level of writing.
The plot is at this point all original, aside from the Chunin exams and one other point it has very little to do with the actual manga.

There isn't much I don't like, it's definitely not library worthy but it worth reading for a decent version of a missing nin Naruto who isn't going to go back to Konoha for the sake of the plot.

I was enjoying this until the last couple chapters, then the quality of the writing and the storyline went up shit creek. Pretty fast and without warning.

Five years ago, a crushing defeat made Ash vanish from the world of Pokemon. Now, at the advent of the World Pokemon Tournament he reappears, a new person. The Pokemon Hunters have a new leader, people with god like powers are appearing, and there are even whispers of civil war. In a seemingly perfect world, nobody could possibly stop the chaos from happening. Nobody until now.

    Rated: Fiction T - English - Adventure/Romance - Ash K./Satoshi & Cynthia/Shirona - Chapters: 19 - Words: 132,209 - Reviews: 187 - Favs: 233 - Follows: 203 - Updated: 09-27-12 - Published: 10-18-09 - id: 5451722

I found this story maybe a year ago, back when there were only thirteen or so chapters. I hadn't joined DLP by then, but I always figured that if I did, I would put this on the review board. Ash's characterization is really well done here; he has that same awkward charm that we all associate with our favorite idiot hero, even though he's come a really long way as a trainer. His battling skill is another plus, because even though he can hold his own against trainers like Steven and Cynthia, he's a long way from being able to simply run over everything in his path like he can in a lot of other Pokemon fics I've looked at. The pairing is another positive, since the story takes some time to develop the Ash/Cynthia relationship without letting it drag the rest of the story down. It's skillful, subtle stuff. Hell, even Ash's new Pokemon have distinctive personalities.

Those are this story's strengths, and they really are enough, in themselves, to make it worth reading. As of late, we can also add a good update speed to the list of pluses, which should be a good thing since it updated at a snail's pace back when I first found it. On the other hand, I really don't approve of the direction the story's taken since the end of the tournament arc (A really half-assed conclusion to begin with, but that's beside the point).

It doesn't spoil a whole lot to say that Ash has become an Aura Guardian in this fic, and although that started out as a relatively minor plot point early on, it seems to have taken over the story in conjunction with the outlandish backstory of Ash's OC girlfriend (It's actually Ash/OC/Cynthia, and the three of them have been putting off discussion of the implications for an uncomfortably long time now). Suffice to say I don't like this. Pokemon has always made for awkward group battle scenes, for the simple reason that pretty much any Pokemon can cause near-limitless area of effect damage, and fights of just that nature now dominate the plot. Moreover, this new "We Lurvz Lucarioz" arc has brought with it a small army of new OC's, complete with lame-ass family revelations: think "Ash, I am your father!", or else "Yer a wizard, Cynthia!". I really think the author would have done better to have the tournament be the sum total of the meta-plot, and just slow down the character arcs to compensate.

TL;DR: 3/5 for the story as a whole. There really is some good characterization and a couple of well-done battles in the tournament arc, and those are still worth reading. Just be ready for the fic to lose some steam after chapter 11 or 12 or so, and this could kill some time for you.

    Title: Zero's Noble Overlord
    Author: Shintouyu
    Genre: Humor/Fantasy
    Fandom: Familiar of Zero/Overlord
    Summary:

The Overlord, man of many titles and known for his noble deeds, was trapped to be forever stuck in the Abyss. Yet one day, a portal opens up and allows him to escape from his eternal prison, and thus he becomes the guardian familiar of a little strawberry blond girl.

    Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8290954/1/Zeros-Noble-Overlord

I really enjoyed this despite it being another 'Louise summons a badass familiar' fic. It's well written, funny, and while it does follow the basic plot of FoZ, it doesn't just rehash everything. In fact, underneath its humor and lighthearted storytelling, it's really about Louise and how she slowly matures, gains confidence and becomes an Overlord. Which is pretty cool.

It does have some problems though. Biggest one being that it still follows the overall canon story which, if you've read a few FoZ fics, you probably know by heart. Another is that the author does break the 4th wall occasionally, but that's just personal preference really. Oh, and there are some minor spelling mistakes here and there.

Overall I would give this a solid 3/5. At 30 chapters and 100k+ words it will stave off boredom for a bit.

Occasionally? More like all the fucking time.

I wanted to like the story, and I get the feeling that there's an interesting tale to be told here, but the author can't write. He's never even heard of 'show, don't tell', and has a retardedly self-referential 4th-wall breaking narrator who consistently fails to be funny.

The entire story is filled with moments like that.

    'What are you? A rabbit?'

It's like the author is MST3K'ing his own fic.

These are all snippets from chapter eleven. There are plenty of other, even worse, examples in the preceding ten chapters.

If you can put up with these stream-of-consciousness interjections and poor attempts at humour, then you might find something worthwhile to waste your time on.

Been reading it as well, but really don't know why I bother. It was mildly entertaining when I first started, and now I'm basically forcing myself.

I've read a lot of ZnT fics and I'd say this is one of the more dull ones in my opinion. =\

I would say that the author breaking the 4th didn't annoy me as much as it annoyed you, Yak.

I'd have to second the rec for naze. I remember reading the fic back when I was new to fan fiction and finding it quite enjoyable.
The story features a massive au where around the time Naruto became a genin the leaf village was locked what I think was a world war. Naruto ends up leaving the leaf village, however his reasons aren't completely stupid. So at a time when every second fic had the evil council exiling Naruto for failing to retrieve Sasuke this was a welcome change.
While it might not be the greatest fic in the world it's a decent time waster and might be one of the more decent Naruto fics.

I dont envy you Yak. You made it to the 11th chapter.

I couldn't even get past the first introduction

    No.

See I dont remember Overlord having a constant fucking narrator.

Not to mention this writers propensity to add something along the lines of "And other things were said"

What other things? TELL US. SHOW US. THIS IS NOT A MOVIE. WE CANT SEE IT.

Got two 'almost' recommendations for all you folks today. Type-Moon fans, rejoice!

If I had to give my own summary of this, it would be along the lines of "Shirou's done something stupid again, and broken the Grail War. Well, no surprises there." What it boils down to is a Shirou with more potential power than pretty much any magus in existence, barring True Magic users. Spoilers for what happens because of this boost:
Shirou summons 4 fully powered Servants, and he can properly support all of them simultaneously. Now, he should have the war in the bag since no one else could stand up to this kind of might. Instead the Grail (or the malevolent spirit in it) intervenes. Angra Mainyu, who thrives on conflict and adversity, decides to give all the other Masters additional Servants to make it a more even fight.
Chaos hasn't ensued yet since it's still in the introductory phases, but it certainly will in the future.

I'd be willing to give it a 4/5 if it wasn't for the circumstances surrounding Shirou and his mysterious teacher. Things seem just a little fishy with that guy.
His behavior is eccentric to the extreme, and his thaumaturgy is rigged as hell. I mean, materialized Words of Power? Which Shirou can shape into swords to great effect? That's a little overboard.
For now, I'd say 3/5 and at most 3.5/5, but the potential's there.

The next one is less of a recommendation and more of a 'Hey, Listen!' kinda thing.

For those who didn't get it from the title, Madoka (Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica) is summoned as a Servant. Unusual? Yes, but give it a chance. It takes place during Fate/Zero, as opposed to Fate/Stay Night.
Archer!Madoka is summoned by Tokiomi instead of Gilgamesh. While the premise is a little unusual (since Tokiomi was still using the catalyst for Gilgamesh), it's nothing to get hung up on.
And things proceed from there. It's a pretty creative interpretation of what would happen if a Goddess was summoned into the war. It is still a little on the short side though (compared to how long it may turn out to be based on the current pace), but the ball's started rolling. Madoka fans should take a look.

I would agree with Nerve Damage being 3/5 at first, although the recent chapters just makes the reader go wtf is going on. If there's no explanation for the mass servant summoning, I'd drop the rating a bit more.
