I dragged my DLP account up from the depths of oblivion to post this, and I'm sure you can see why it moved me so. But the pièce de résistance is one of the author's other works:

She sujects go reading her story. I do not. It is both hopelessly bad and gruellingly predictable, and I felt myself becoming stupider with every line. The poem, on the other hand, is both brief and humorous (if only unintentionally so).

 

So she wrote a poem for English and decided to post it in the Harry Potter section because it's about a Harry Potter OC she created... Is that like even considered FF anymore?

Am I the only one laughing?

Hmm, that is an interesting question - has any well known author ever written fanfiction for his own works? As in a crossover with some other universe?

I think someone did do this.

When FF was updated and it became possible to search by reviews, I remember searching for like the highest reviewed stories and stumbled upon a Twilight story (I think it was Twilight). The author had made an AU story gotten a lot of reviews so they like removed all the actual chapters but left summary (I guess it was their way of bragging) and I guess renamed the characters and title to something original.

In essence, they tried to create an AU with another author's work but when their story got "too popular" they decided to take all the credit.

 

Fifty Shades of Grey wasn't what I was talking about.

In fact, it is safe to assume that it won't be relevant to any topic you are posting about in DLP. Or anywhere else.


Your example is the opposite case of what I mean.
Writing a fic that ends up as an original book is one thing.
Having a book first, and writing fiction about it afterwards is another.

Honestly, I don't know why I go to FFN anymore. It takes me forever to sort through the mountains of Drarry, Dramione and Snarry blasphemy, the polls and MSTs which are both against the rules, the *-Reads-The-Books plagiarism-for-toddlers fics which should be against the rules, the songfics...

Trying to find something decent to read at FFN is like trying to get clean drinking water out of the sewer by filtering out the turds and tampon applicators with your teeth: You might find some, but you will have thoroughly poisoned yourself in the process.

If you think that metaphor was too graphic, you're wrong; it was nowhere near graphic enough. If you think it was tasteless, then I can only say, "Apropos, wasn't it?"
