Yeeeeeah, I don't really care either way about the TVTropes thing. I think TV Tropes is great these days (it took me a long time to see the appeal though), but I don't really see it as an info-page for things like forums. I usually go there to read about common threads that run through various stories and whatnot, i.e. actual "tropes" as they call them.

I don't see a need for us to have a page but I don't really see the harm in it either if someone wants to do it. Just keep it simple and let it go from there if you decide to go for it? No need to write thousands of words.

Dark Lord Potter, also known as Project DLP, is a fanfiction community that values quality over all else. They favor blunt, constructive criticism and rarely sugarcoat their reviews. Traditionally their focus has been on Harry Potter fanfiction but in recent years they have branched out.

I think this is retarded. I don't give a fuck what people think about DLP, and what that cunt Less Wrong thinks either. The problem with everyone thinking we're all a bunch of hard asses is them confusing Internet with real life where people are courteous and don't tell you they will murder you and fuck the body on a continual basis. I've always been about if you get offended and make a scene you're not worth the time. No sweat if you don't join or post you probably had nothing to contribute anyways.

Tl;Dr: Fuck everyone, this idea is stupid. Everyone that needs to know of dlp knows of it, I will kill you and fuck the body.

Bio did it last year, with permission. He linked it a couple times in IRC everyone had a good laugh. Nothing ever came of it cause he went inactive or I vanished, I can't remember. Might not have been last year,. Maybe the one before that.

But to answer the question, I think OP and others are suggesting it partially in order to correct misinformation about us. DLP has a ferocious reputation that everyone is an unmitigated asshole (not quite true, especially these days) and that we are only interested in stories about Harry becoming a Dark Lord and/or Evil in some way (the latter kept me from coming to DLP for ages because what's the point in joining a community whose sole interest doesn't interest you?).

I think that has the potential to misfire though. The TVTropes page will be open to trolling from a variety of sources and trolling will happen.

 

No it doesn't matter what anyone thinks. They join and stay because they want to. The only thing that was ever worth changing about DLP in the past was making sure everyone knew this wasn't 4chan. Which I'm totally for. I will always be an asshole, however, to anyone and everyone I want to be. Especially newbs. They don't have to respond to me if they don't like it.

There is no misinformation. Anyone with half a Goddamn brain can read the threads here and find out what DLP is about. We're not some secret organization.

 

This. Personally, I'm quite happy with the reputation we have: it sets a certain threshold for signing up, resulting in a state where people who join mostly only do so because they actually want to be here. Our reputation is the first stupidity filter of the site.

So: By all means make an entry, but don't do so in an attempt to somehow maintream-ise and de-evil-ise the site (more than it already is, anyway).
