If you lot are as desperate as you seem to be, I recommend going on to Inert's FFN page and checking out his favorited stories as they are mostly pretty good. And while you're there, check out the revised version of Hurricane Suite. It was great originally, but now I consider it to be one of the best Naruto fics out there.

 

Pretty sure I've read almost all those fics at some point. TBH, most of them fall under "Almost Recommendable".

 

I have some problems with Iron Soul. Namely:

- Not using ANY Japanese (suffixes etc) makes the story seem strange at some points

- Ebisu seems to be a bit too different from Canon, and a bit too strong

- Neji is mostly alright, but Tenten is overpowered - she's simply weak in Canon, and there weren't really any reasons for her to grow here - and yet she's killing chuunin as a relatively fresh genin without too much problems

- Killing off Orochimaru seemed somewhat believable, but still rubbed me the wrong way. I doubt that such a strong mofo with a penchant for surviving being dissected by Kyuubi-powered Naruto with 4 tails would be dead just like that

- Naruto's latest 'weapon' sounds so fucking overpowered it's almost laugable. He's got essentially a Ninja-like Sniper Rifle, which is seemingly completely unstoppable, can be elongated far enough to kill people from almost laughable distances in a fraction of a second (vide Gaara assassination) and has practically no drawbacks. At this point, there is no need for Naruto to train anymore - he could kill practically anyone in the Elemental Countries (except perhaps Tobi with his space/time fuckery) in under a second by decapitation. If there is nothing that can't stop it, he could just kill any of the powerhouses like Itachi, Pein or Kisame without them even noticing what is going on as long as he saw them.

At this rate, all of the toughest guys around will be dead before Naruto's 13th birthday.


For now, I'd say 3/5 - some of the later developments just seem a bit too unbelievable.

 

Well... It's Gaara. Canon Naruto beat him, and broke through his shield with his fists alone. Gaara also never moves at this point, he stands there and lets the sand do shit.

It's not that much of a stretch that a Naruto that doesn't suck ass wouldn't have too much trouble. Canon Lee could have done that if he'd had a Chakra weapon. Imagine Canon Lee with a weapon sharp enough to cut through the sand. Not that unlikely, considering he could break it by hand. Lee takes off his weights, goes for a surprise decapitation in the forest. I hardly think that Gaara would do any better in that situation.

That doesn't mean that canon Lee would be any good versus everybody but Tobi.

It seems like any Chunin with enough speed could kill Gaara if he had a weapon that sharp, and any Jounin could with his hands. Gaara was kinda overhyped.

 

Meh, I don't mind a lot of Naruto fanfiction that was lambasted here so my standards are probably lower than average, but here are some fics I found tolerable enough.

Notable for being the only female Naruto I can tolerate. It would have probably been better without the romance though. It was also kinda hard for me to suspend my disbelief at certain points, most notably

the conclusion of the Wave arc and Hinata's all-knowing clan library.

But altogether it wasn't terrible.

A nice little AU with Naruto around Itachi's age group and Itachi being the Hokage. In general, I really like reading Naruto as a teacher type stories so this was cool. Sasuke's pretty normal here too and that's always nice.

Probably the best videogame!naruto there is. It seems to be the best planned and it's entertaining soo...

 

Two excellent (IMO - Can't speak for anyone else, obviously) not-a-psychopath timetraveler!Sasuke fanfics, both gen. As I recall, neither involves Itachi much, unfortunately.

I would like to recommend signs by the author d'ihshtri, features Naruto with a doujutsu, and raised by Madara. Sounds gay but it's relatively breath of fresh air, shows a prodigy Naruto, but it's done well.

 

The amount of slash in his favorites makes me wary, but I'll try it.

 

I don't think I've ventured into his favourites, but he does have one slash story up. There has been no indication of slash in Signs that I've been able to spot. I think it would fit in with with almost recommendable, but I'm not much of a thread started. So, I doubt I'll ever post anything there.

 

There is no doubt about his reading sexual inclination, thankfully he limits it in Signs.
I believe he predicted the negative sannin energy among other things.

 

Itachi washing Naruto's hair was pretty gay. Other than that one scene, it's alright. Some tense and plural/singular issues, and the way he begins scenes without revealing the names of the characters involved - I assume to be mysterious - is just confusing.

THe Leaf's Naruto has been mentioned before, the rest is new. Do you mind explaining with a few words why you think they should be mentioned here?

 

I read the Rewritten and it is decent fic not overly good but not that bad either.

It is a peggy sue fic about Naruto going to the his parents time change things, stop the bad guy, bang Sasuke's mum etc. nothing original really. But there isn't any angst or pointless drama so a decent time waster overall.

Edit: wait Dark Minion you don't know Life in Konoha's ANBU? It is in WBA here.

 

Shezza posted Life in Konoha's ANBU in the WbA forum and it is pretty damn awesome. Naruto is himself in all the ways that matter, but with a good smattering of competence and common sense. Sarutobi is also pretty damn cool as well.
