    Danzo's Team.

Basically what if Danzo became Team 7's squad leader.

    Its fucking amazing.

Honestly though it runs into the Wave mission again. and the reason for going along with it is a bit weak imo.

That said I like this Danzo.

Its like Better to Honor Danzo with a splash of canon Danzo.

First I was like "lolwut? Danzo fucks up everything. Putting him in charge of Team 7 will cause an apocalypse."

But the Better to Honour mention is enough to make me read it.

Edit: Though I think I've might read some of this before but never finished it. Probably not a good sign.

Yeah I get that feeling too. Reading it I was like "I swear to god I've read this before." but I found it enjoyable.

I want to second the Danzo's Team. His interactions with the team, and how he works with Root are some of the better scenes.

Danzo's Team: 2.5/5. Grammar is blah. Word choice is childish. And the world he's painting is too childish as well. Danzo is terribly OOC for no apparent reason besides because the author needs/wants him to be.

Didn't particularly enjoy it. Sarutobi chewing out Danzo for giving Sakura bruises during training-military training-broke my suspension of disbelief. Technical aspect of the writing is of the average ff.net fic, so not DLP standard. Yes, I know this is almost recced.

If you're very bored, I suppose it's a decent time waster.

I concur. It did hold my interest throughout but it wasn't particularly original or outstanding. Writing was meh, characterization was also meh, too many signs of clichés, like naruto getting super capable and smart without much reason, looking down on others for not seeing the obvious lessons and whatnot, characters getting the shaft like Kurenai and the Sandaime who are suddenly incompetent and stupid for no reason, too many instances of "grinning evilly or mad grin" or something along those lines, which takes the seriousness of the story.

Danzo was hit and miss. I don't particularly like Danzo, since he is, in my opinion, the character that Kishi failed to write the most, him basically being Konoha's greatest enemy, being responsible for pretty much every bad situation Konoha was ever in with maybe the exception of the first war and the Shodai and Madara fight. I liked the unrepentant evil and selfish parts of his character that were displayed in the fic. At the same time, he was sometimes too silly and the story still expects me to like him and sympathize with him to some degree, and that just doesn't work, since he is really not the "for the greater good" guy at all.

Think I am going to give this a 3/5, it has its interesting points but overall, nothing special and a good time waster.

The Fifth Act Author: Sinnatious Cloud has an accident with a Time materia. There are people to save, and for that, some people need to die.

Easily the best FF7 story I've found. I know it's in the recommended section, but maybe some people haven't noticed it or even been in there. That said, anyone else have any FF7 stories that are worth the time (never really played any of the other games so those are out)? Most stories are - do I even need to say it? - a slash-fest with Sephiroth and Cloud and I didn't even notice this story till finding it here in a slash-free zone.

But yeah, for a FF7 fan and one who enjoys a good time travel story this story is the shit. Really makes you wanna go play the games until you remember just how bad the graphics are. Now I'm watching AMVs on Youtube and getting all emotional when they get to Zack's death...

Author: VarianN [IMG] PM Cloud's first thought on waking in the Shinra training grounds..."Where's the hidden camera?". What is one supposed to do when they find themselves inexplicably in the past? Become a terrorist four years early, of course. And look up a few old friends.

Basically, Cloud gets hit by a ROB and he replaces his younger self back in SOLDIER training. Then he goes out and starts trying to prevent the worst of the atrocities he knows about, like JENOVA and anything to do with Hojo.

I remember it being pretty damn good, though it's been a while since I read it.

Terrorism and Anarchy is the best of the infinite number of FFVII time travel fics floating around.

FFVII time travel typically follows the same pseudo angsty formula every time: "Depressed!Cloud goes back in time to (a)save the Planet, (b) save himself from becoming a suicidal wreck (otherwise known as deux ex Aeris), (c)save Sephiroth for magical slash babies. He will make his life better by successfully becoming a SOLDIER this time around, regardless of whatever else he could be doing."

Terrorism and Anarchy has Cloud almost immediately escaping ShinRa after having a very public freakout. Then Cloud runs around upsetting ShinRa politics with his super secret terrorist identity and uses every advantage he gained in the original game to put himself eight steps ahead of everyone else; advanced weapons, his friends, superior geographic knowledge, gossip from drunk TURKs, ridiculous business sense, and probably his abilities as a chocobo breeder.

    5/5

I'm checking it out right now. The only thing I have a small problem with is little pieces where the game's reality sorta shines through and the author says things like "With all the experience you've gained you shouldn't have a problem even if they've got mutations onboard," or the leveled-weapons, though the latter isn't too unusual. It's just...weird.

Yeah my biggest problem with T&A (lol) is the straight game logic. It's like if you were reading Game of Champions and suddenly Red was talking about levels, STAB or complaining about the move limit. It's like reading a story that constantly breaks the fourth wall. My only other problem is a few of the characterisations are over the top or annoyingly done (especially Zack, who seems to get worse the further the story goes), but other than that it's pretty good.

You shut your whore mouth. Lamora could write about levels, STAB, and move limits and we'd fucking love it.

Sarcasm aside, I'm fairly sure that the topic of STAB has been glossed over in GoC at some point, something along the lines of giving it a brief nod of acknowledgement before moving on with the narrative.

To return to the topic, Danzo's Team was... okay. The writing itself is readable. I could understand what he was driving at whenever I came across an error, although the improper use of their in place of there and they're was jarring, if only because it cropped up several times in almost every chapter I read.

Also, the use of grown instead of groan. Like I said, I could understand what he was driving at, but it began to become grating after a while. And Danzo being almost completely OOC was odd. And my suspension of disbelief was pretty much destroyed when the author decided to lift characterizations from other anime and manga for henges or minor characters.

It is quite an interesting what if story with Napoleon as Gandalfr. And I mean the historic Napoleon not some Anime/Manga version of him. The refreshing thing is that it doesn´t follow canon quite as much as any other Familiar of Zero story that I have read. It is also much more mature than most of them. It focuses a lot on the nobility/commoner problematic and the wars/intrigue that envelop the world. The author also seems to have no problem with killing quite a few important characters and the plot is sometimes really surprising.
I like it a lot and would say that it is library worthy with 4,5 maybe even 5 of 5 stars.

I actually found Terrorism & Anarchy very fun and enjoyable. Sure, it's a little meta-y, but I happen to like that sort of thing. 5/5 from me.

The Fifth Act, however - heavy and depressing. Especially in the end. I grew extremely annoyed by the depressed, suicidal Cloud who couldn't meet anyone's eyes and who kept awkwardly shuffling his feet. After some bad stuff happening near the end, I had to rapidly skim the remaining chapters to finish the story. The moment when things become... bearable again is when the fic ends. If you like a heavy angst-fest, go for it. Well written, and all the characters were well done, but Cloud was entirely too pathetic for my tastes. I wouldn't really recommend it.

I don't have any technical problems with Emporer of Zero, as Erandil mentioned, its writing is sound, but I didn't enjoy it either.

Napoleon is written in character, from what I know of him but that doesn't mean he is a particularly pleasant person to follow. He is a powerhungry, manipulative and ruthless douche after all, albeit a tactically brilliant one, and seeing him do his thing was just not fun for me. I just couldn't bring myself to like Napoleon and I never particularly liked Louise so, when the main characters are not fun to read about, the story itself, no matter how good in the other aspects, just isn't worth it.

The characters are solid and three dimensional and fair but still, don't enjoy reading about them.

So, 4/5 on a technical level, but really, 3/5 from me.

I think the Fifth Act was boss, because even though Cloud was angsting it up every other chapter, he was still OP as fuck and doing work. And the whole suicide thing was his escape/make sure clause to guarantee he wouldn't become or be made into another Sephiroth.

I'm with Nemrut there. Emperor of Zero has excellent writing, well written characters and is one of very few Familiar of Zero fics that don't just follow the same formula (the only other one I can remember off the top of my head is Making Magick).

On the other side, the amount of enjoyment I get from it severely limited by the fact that the main character is an arsehole who just wants to take over the world. Not just that but you very negative development from characters like Siesta, which while well written, leaves a bitter taste in your mouth. Even someone like Karin has a well written character that is nonetheless, unlikeable.

I'm still reading it, but I'm basically hoping for an ending where Louise finally learns to get some inner strength and confidence and learns about all her familiar has done, then kills him. Though so far it seems to be about him teaching her and providing her with companionship more than anything. That seems to be about all her purpose is at the moment.

I'd give it a 4.5/5 critically, 3.5/5 for my own personal enjoyment.

I read it for a while and felt the story just lacked a certain flair or hook to make me really care about it. Then certain recent developments just threw the story off a cliff in a fairly dumb manner. It has certain high points, but for the most part it's 3/5, dipping down below that in the later chapters

With the ending of 'He Who Fights Monsters' I feel like a long lost friend just died. That said, anyone have Rosario story I can use to replace this deceased friend? I don't know, the current fandom sucks pretty hard, but I feel like the series has a shitload of potential with all the monster lore untouched so far.
