That's when they're not being ruled over by Norwegians or Saxons. If the Saxons win especially, they are capable of becoming incredibly powerful incredibly quickly, because they don't have to worry about rebellious vassals and the likes.

    Interesting.

Norman -> English England is only potentially dangerous from 1200 on in my experience- they start to catch up rapidly and blast past the other British Isles factions economically due to sheer size. Before that though, they aren't much of a big deal since half the King's vassals hate him and the corresponding merc addiction during wartime slows their development down.

So, I try to give a nudge here and there to tip them into a prolonged crisis of succession before that happens. If that doesn't work, I kick the King of England in the balls while he's fiddling with France or Scotland or whoever.

Saxon England and Norwegian England are different animals, of course. The Saxons grow like weeds, and the Norwegians actually have a power base outside England proper to start with (the Normans typically lose Normandy itself quite rapidly).

edit: Or, alternately, the one in a thousand Danish England. :v

The only time I've been able to take England when starting in Ireland was when the English won a Crusade. They spent the next 100 years shuffling troops from England all the way to Jerusalem putting down constant rebellions. Meanwhile I grabbed Scotland and Wales and slowly started chipping away at them whenever they were in the Holy Land. Finally formed Brittania and then everything went wrong

My king had 7 daughters and 1 son. The 1 son was a genius and would have been amazing. Only problem was, my King lived for fucking ever. He outlived his son and the throne went to his daughters, none of whom had matrilineal marriages. Empire passes out of my dynasty's hands after like 200 years of successful expansion. FML.

I discovered something fun about Ireland recently. They make playing as a Muslim a cakewalk.

Playing as an Andalusian Muslim I had already invaded and taken Aquitaine and was about to take France when they allied with the HRE, who would take any excuse to kick my ass. So I was basically stuck, I couldn't call Holy Wars on France or Brittany without the HRE tearing me a new one and I couldn't call Holy Wars on the people below me because well, I'd already eaten all the Christian kingdoms and I'd made all the Muslims my allies because I needed them to beat France. To top it all off, while I waited for the immortal French king to die,I realized that I didn't have enough piety to send another invasion anyway because I had spammed the Conquest CB on rebelling vassals.I couldn't even invade Britain proper because I only bordered Normandy.

Ireland, sweet, defenseless Ireland, solved all those problems. It was ruled by a bunch of weak counts with no alliances and was too far away for the HRE or England to help. Initiate Offensive Plan: Holy War Spam. Put two merc units on a boat, send them to Ireland and storm the castles before anyone of note can attack you, do this thrice, and you have a county. Rinse and repeat and you have an island.

Not only do you get land, you also get piety for fighting holy wars (about 1300 for me) and you knock down Catholicism's moral authority by about 13%. AND you now border the pitiful Scotland, and with your new piety you pretty much run them over and from there march straight into England, especially if the fort levels are low.

Next, I destroy France and take Norman England, then I take the rest of Hispania and wait for the Aztecs. It's been a good game.

CK2 and DLC on sale at Amazon.com cheap!

If you don't follow the Steam Sales thread, then you may not know that CK1, CK2, plus ALL of the current DLC [including The Republic] is on sale for $9.99. If you have an Editors Choice coupon by buying a one of a number of games last year on Amazon.com, then it's automatically reduced to $4.99. You have to be fast though. I think the sale is only a very short one.

I bought the pack for $4.99, got all of the DLC I'd missed out on, and now have heaps of DLC to give away.

If you want CK2 vanilla, or could do with some DLC to add fun to your current CK2 installation, then hit me up.

This is what I have left:

    2. Crusader Kings II [Download]
    3. Crusader Kings II: African Portraits [Download]
    4. Crusader Kings II: African Unit Pack DLC [Online Game Code]
    5. Crusader Kings II: Byzantine Unit Pack [Download]
    6. Crusader Kings II: Dynasty Shield II [Download]
    7. Crusader Kings II: Dynasty Shields DLC Pack [Online Game Code]
    8. Crusader Kings II: Legacy of Rome [Download]
    10. Crusader Kings II: Mongols DLC Pack [Online Game Code]
    14. Crusader Kings II: Songs of Albion DLC [Online Game Code]
    15. Crusader Kings II: Songs of Byzantium [Download]
    16. Crusader Kings II: Songs of Faith DLC [Online Game Code]
    18. Crusader Kings II: Songs of the Caliph DLC [Online Game Code]
    19. Crusader Kings II: Songs of the Holy Land DLC [Online Game Code]
    22. Crusader Kings II: Sword of Islam [Online Game Code]

edit: No more Steam serials left.

If no one else wants it I wouldn't mind having the CK2 vanilla DL.

So, just like everyone thought: DLC is fucking Vikings. That they actually moved the start date back means that this is going to be fucking awesome, too. Great Heathen Army For The Fucking Win.

Amazon sale for JUST the CK pack (and the other Paradox packs) ends tonight at midnight, PST. However, if you still want CK and don't mind other Paradox games, Amazon is extending the date of the Paradox 2012 pack (CK 2+CK 2 DLC+War of the Roses+others) until the 2nd.

You are referring to this pack, correct?

It says it is currently unavailable.

Yes, they're out of keys for it. That's why the EC promotion for that pack only is being extended until the 2nd, so they can get more keys.

    What's Crusader Kings: Complete do?

I also have an extra base CK2 code now. I know Yak just have his away but i'm thinking of PMing Midknight to see if he has any slightly more fair way to give it out than first come first serve (like save it for another secret santa, etc.)

That could be pretty awesome. There's a definite split between people with steam versions and those without though. :/

That's the first Crusader Kings. Haven't played it, and don't intend to.

Yeah, I wasn't worried about 'fair'. I posted it in this thread to pick up peeps who'd be enthusiastic for the game, and I wasn't going to give it to someone I've never heard of no matter how quickly they got in.

    ---------- Post automerged at 17:16 ---------- Previous post was at 16:46 ----------

I have no idea. You can have all of the DLC codes if you want. No one's asked for any and there's no point letting them stay unused.

Some of us have extra base code though. I think that I have a spare CK2 + all the expansions (I really shouldn't buy at launch). Perhaps we can give some out and organize something.

Only Sword of Islam and The Republic add new places to play. Aztecs just adds a Mongol-like horde in the West.

Serachin got the Steam version of CK2 and all DLC earlier today. I don't know who's stuck on a non-Steam version.
