My Shit posted by someone not me.

He isn't taking credit for it, I personally don't see a problem.

Going by a strictly dictionary meaning of the word, it would seem that the linked story isn't a case of plagiarism.

Now, I'm not saying it isn't an ass move to post a story of someone who it's possible to get a hold of, or that someone can't still view it as plagiarism, but as I said, I personally don't see a problem with it. If Vash does, or if you do, there's nothing wrong with that either. I was just expressing my own view, nothing more.

Fine, not plagiarism, but you go ahead and post the full contents of Harry Potter to FFN and see how far you get.

You may not personally see a problem, well whoop-de-fucking do. No one asked your opinion. You have literllay zero say in this. It goes against FFN's rules and Vash's wishes. I can't comprehend why you posted in the first place.

mknote, you didn't post it yourself did you? Because the argument you just made is similar to the one the dude made in a response to my review.

I left a review on the story calling the dude a plagiarizing jackhole, basically, and pointed out that the story was archived elsewhere if he (or anyone else) wanted to read it.

This is the response I got:
ok so im going to address the first thing you said you called me a plagiarizing jack hole the definition is explained as someone who steals someones work and keeps it as there own as i didnt say i wrote the story in fact i repeated it multiple times that it was his that does infact not make me a plagiarizer and because the author messaged me about it shall be deleted immediately and it is not on this site anymore which is the only reason i posted so i may be a jackhole for not asking him but if i am then i shall except that.
So this is the response I gave:
It is on his site -- I checked before leaving that message. It's up on both DLP and on Patronus Charm. And you took his work and posted it on your account -- tossing up a "it's not mine" doesn't make it okay or mean you didn't still take it and post it on your account.

At any rate, glad you're doing the right thing and taking it down.
So, yeah. I'm with Oz here. Maybe it doesn't fit some of the literal definitions of plagiarism, but that doesn't make it okay. Just saying "this isn't mine" doesn't give you the right to distribute/post something without permission. Granted it's not like there's much that anyone could do in this case, since we are dealing with fanfic, but still.

Exceptions? Sure, I guess -- like whoever posted the "Stranger in an Unholy Land" stuff on that weebly site, so that folks not in the dude's yahoo group could read it. But given that Vash's stuff was posted and available in full elsewhere, and the dude didn't even make a token attempt to get permission... well, not cool.

Really, though...I get that he didn't ask your permission first and that the principle of it is douchey, but really - why do you care? Unless of course, you don't want it on FFN for some reason.

Personally, I'd be flattered is someone liked my work enough to drag it out of oblivion, post if back up on FFN AND gave me credit for it.

    But rage if you must.

FFN is shit about plagiarism. There's an 'author' on there that has been posting the books word for word (except for the fact they insert an OC sister's name next to Harry's) for over a year now. She's already on Azkaban. It's been reported since she began posting back in September of '11 and is still up. http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7399071/1/Lucy-Potter-and-the-Sorcerer-s-Stone

    Hilarious quote from a review:
"Missy, let me break something to you: there cannot be two Seekers in one game. The logical thing would have been to make Lucy a reserve Seeker and quite frankly, making Seeker just makes her a Mary Sue"
    :awesome

This Lucy story may be one of the stupidest things I've ever read. If it was a trollish story, I'd be impressed. Unfortunately I think it's all too real.

It is, quite clearly, a masterful troll on the level of My Immortal and Doom: Repercussions of Evil.

I had a look at the reviews. At the same time I am glad that she only has so few reviews and I am disgusted at the amount of reviewers who actually praise her for her work.

Both of you are idiots. Outside of the fact that claiming it or not, its still plagiarism in that he only added a single line claiming it wasn't his, but still proceeded to delete all authors notes I put in it. If it was posted in its original with the I can find this anywhere and its not mine so here, I might have considered overlooking it. (Note: I wouldn't overlook it. Its on DLP, ficwad, and PC.

I knew it was torn down, if I wanted it to be on FFN I would have posted it. That I didn't is enough to warrant the response. End of story.

I know enough to not be surprised.

It's marked as NC-17 on DLP, so I assume he's just not interested in getting the banhammer (if FFnet does such a thing). I know a bunch of authors removed their stories from there in protest of them not allowing MA stories.

Also, for more blatant plagiarism, there are those ridiculously stupid "Harry Potter reads the Harry Potter Books" stories:

    http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8344904/1/

By all rights these should be removed, but I must admit they are useful for reference when I don't have the books handy.

Be wary. That one you linked is the American version, for example, and often people are pasting it from the same source (which usually has a few typos, that's how you know)

A fanfiction.net user with the username Explodra is posting multiple authors' stories, which had been removed from FFN for one reason or another. All of them have been submitted within the past week.

If he's doing it simply to make them available again, he hasn't given any indication that he has the original authors' permission to do so, nor has he made one ounce of effort to let anyone know the stories are not his own. Zero credit has been given to the original authors.

Additionally, he submitted stories by Aerie22 and Lori, which are readily available at Schnoogle, as they always have been (not to mention wotcher_wombat's story on Livejournal); so, there's no reason to post them except to try and plagiarize them and receive undeserved praise.

Among the stories he has submitted...

    1. Spoils of War by Aerie22
    2. Dance With Me Harry by Aerie22
    3. Out of The Night by Raining Ink
    4. Shadow Play by Thor Nairda
    5. The Demon Within by Thor Nairda
    6. Enemy Mine by Delauney
    7. Teeth by ManicR
    8. Morpheus' Garden by ManicR
    9. A Stranger in The Promised Land by Serpant Sorcerer
    10. When you read this I'll be gone by trux
    11. Sisyphus by esama
    12. Dark Renaissance by Lamentit Eternum
    13. Traitorous by Flamata
    14. Winter Sunlight by undertree33
    15. Paradigm of Uncertainty by Lori
    16. Scenes from the Hog's Head Inn by wotcher_wombat
Please submit abuse reports on these stories, until this nob gets banned or gets the fucking hint.

EDIT: Motherfucker is still posting new stories as I write this: 3 since I started this post!

Not a single disclaimer about it not being his own work. Not even about Harry Potter being JKR's story in the first place.

To be honest, fuck those disclaimers. Actually, I think making that statement opens you up to liability in that matter...I think. Did post an abuse report, though.

I kind of doubt it: He was in the process of submitting Black Widow by marksykins and Vault 419 by SnorkackCatcher when it happened. :facepalm
