Essentially, yes. Fairy Tail does its job great - just make sure you don't take it particularly seriously. I don't, so I enjoy it.

    This pleases me immensely.

Is this something you particularly want to see or are just conditioned to seeing? Like, I pretty much know to expect the whole nakama/power of friendship thing as probably THE basic theme of shounen (I literally can't think of even one series that doesn't make an emphasis of it) but I wouldn't at all mind seeing it turned on its head once in awhile. I remember marking out like a little kid in Beelzebub when Oga trolled the whole teamwork/friendship thing and blitzed Jabberwock's base by himself. Of course it didn't end up playing out that way, which was only a minor letdown.

I was talking more that it made the fights where the protag fought and won against stronger opponents make more sense rather than indicating a preference for it.

That said, I both expect it and enjoy it but I wouldn't mind seeing it subverted more often. Manga where the character sort out their business by themselves would be a refreshing change of pace. If I'd read any, they don't really come to mind outside of one-on-one battles.

Edit: The Breaker: New Waves 104. Now with 90% more flashback and a surprising reveal.

It says something about the chapter that I'm not sure which bitch LT2000 is referring to, and must instead amend his statement to include multiple bitches. Damn.

If anyone else is keeping up with Liar Game, am I the only person who finds the latest arc to be dragging on worse than any other?

So, more on Tower of God since this was such a killer chapter.

I've read a number of series, and Rachel might well be the most unlikeable character I've ever come across. If SIU ever wants her to be seen in any kind of sympathetic light then he's got his work cut out for him. I'm dreading her reunion with Baam more than ever now, because I don't think I'll be satisfied with anything short of him pulling out her intestinal tract with his bare hands. And that won't happen because he's Baam. So I guess I'll just hope Yuri gets to her first with knowledge of what she's done, because she would do it. Or maybe Androssi.

As for Baam, serious crossroads for him. He really needs to tell FUG to eat a bag of cocks and walk out, now that they've taken a big dump all over their agreement with him. Even if Xia Xia was acting on her own, that's not any excuse. Baam ought to have known to begin with that FUG would never honor the deal, but now he has no choice but to see and accept it. Hoping he stomps a bloody mudhole in both Xia Xia and Cassano next chapter and makes a clean break from his 'masters.' I hope he brings Jinsung with him. Cheap perm ftw.

I doubt Koon is dead either. I mean, SIU is enough of a troll to actually have done it, but I'm going to assume that good storytelling will win out over shock factor. But I also don't think the logical next step (Wangnan and the others saving him and Koon joining their team) will play out either. Ran and Novik might though, considering that team is absent almost all of their firepower with Baam and Horyang gone and replacements will be needed if they're going to be able to do anything in the upcoming Gongbang.

This entire arc is going to be amazing.

Motherfucking SIU. Koon best not be dead, Rachel best be on the receiving end of some seriously hardcore vengeance in the near future and Baam best be unloading a can of whoopass in the next chapter.

Rachel needs to die so bad it hurts. Preferably painfully with lots of spikes. And that Goddamn chapter... Best arc since crown game.

I agree that Koon can't be dead. If Koon is dead, then there's no one to exact revenge on rabitch.

If you're referring to Rachel when you say rabitch, then I don't quite agree with that logic. Remember that Leesoo also knows about what she did to Baam (of course, she also knows that he knows and will no doubt have planned to deal with that). Still, when Koon turns up 'dead' we'll see whether Leesoo lets the cat out of the bag to the others. More than one of the Season I team would probably be willing to take revenge on her. Of course, I would be very surprised if Koon is actually dead anyway.

I tried Liar Game a while ago, but just couldn't get into it. I finished the second game but just felt that both the characters and the games felt too contrived and forced to get into.

On another note, is anyone still following Berserk? I don't even know where its going anymore. Are we approaching the ending? Are we somewhere in the middle? Has it only just started!? I can't gauge where we are in the plot at all. And who knows what the hell is happening with Griffith.

    Beelzebub 192

That went down the expected path, which is a good thing.

Ah, I just put Leesoo in the same group as Koon. I can't remember if its canon confirmed, but I have a hunch they are scheming something. They are both extremely intelligent and are in contact across several floors. My bad.

Plot-wise, I'd say we've reached the halfway point. Griffith seems to be finalising the creation of his kingdom with Guts "outside of the fairy tale" so he isn't killed by the direction fate's taking. I figure he'll be hanging around in the magical land of whatever for some time before swinging back to wreck Griffith's shit.

More on Beelzebub. Some people will say this was a boring chapter, but I quite liked it. Tamura managed to allay my concerns with this arc by confirming once and for all that this is a Demon World plot and that there's a contractor among the new enemies. My money is on the big boss being Akahoshi. Nasu doesn't give me the vibe of being an actual serious antagonist, and strikes me as more of the muscle enforcer type. Strong and dangerous to be sure, but probably an opponent for Toujou more than Oga, who in my opinion would stomp him in a serious fight without too much trouble. That said, I don't think Nasu is 100% human either, and might well be an uncontracted demon himself.

What I really liked, though, was seeing Oga call the council of war together. It shows that he's evolving as a character and starting to act like a proper chief. Previously he would have just tried to beat the shit out of everyone right then and there, and probably lost badly under these circumstances. Now I want to see Oga's sister dust off her thug and step into the fight too, though that will probably require Aoi to be overmatched on her end.

So, now that my potential issues have been set to rest, I'm really looking forward to this arc.

It feels like things are looking up with Guts. Must be a trap. He's got all these new friends who fight with him, he's nearly ready to cure Caska. Everything feels so positive. I'm preparing myself for all of them to die violently and painfully.

Speaking of Berserk. Awesome manga, but it's been like... four years since I last read it. From what I remember, Caska was a drooling husk, but she... got better? But she lost her memory or something. And I remember Guts and something about saving and loving Caska being different. Um, Guts had gotten that ballsy kickin' berserk armor. I think some little witch joined the party, and I think they were about to set sail to some island? Before that, there was some threat to some village, and they went into a cave to kill something. Am I even close here? Idk, I kinda lost interest when Guts moved away from the war place into the magic land seeking a cure or something. How many new chapters are there, and is it worth picking up again?
