Honestly, I see Ron's descent into being a prick as being realistic, given the reasons. Him agreeing with 'Draco' (in the narrative), though?

Even if Ron did turn on him, I can't see the rest of Gryffindor doing the same - even if Ron is spouting off crap.

The Fleur/Veela Allure thing was also done a little disastrously; especially with the Unforgivable set-up.

"Oh, woe is me, I can't find a boy/mate worthy of being able to resist the fabled veela allure!"

    Pft.

And this is just from the first chapter.

    Edit:

Chapter 2 - Dobby. Come and Go Room. Plausible if Dobby's used, but overused as a concept so, so much.

Elf bonding or death? Check. Ron bashing? Check.

Tbh, I'd say this was 'guilty pleasure read', not 'Almost Recommendable'.

I thought the Ron being a dick was done rather well, if you consider the inevitability of such a scene in this type of fic. Harry is having a shit day and Ron's jealousy spikes, Harry tells him to piss off. While it could done better it's as elegant you are going to get from a author that is hell bent on getting rid of Ron as fast as possible. The Malfoy scene is a misstep and there is a scene where Ron regrets his actions later on.

I also liked the way that Maxime is afraid of Fluer because of her allure. We don't get to see people regarding the ability with distrust often enough. Unfortunately the rest of her school is doing the usual jealousy thing.

There are problems. The biggest being the sticking to cannon just for the sake of sticking to cannon. Some of Fluers words make no sense in context of the fic. The Little boy comment stuck out to me the most.

Are we still talking about 'Harry Potter and the Scīenra Cwēna'?

Because Ron redeemed (sorta) his little jealousy fuckup. The result/fallout of Ron regretting his actions (concerning Malfoy) will be seen later, I suppose.

Getting further into it, I'm agreeing with you, somewhat. It is shaping up better, but still...cliches.

This is looking like a real shitfest as of Ch1. I'll drag through a bit further but I think this might only seem decent compared to other haremfics.

I feel I should note that there is a significant difference between a polyamorous relationship and a harem.

    :facepalm

There's probably a Sirius Black joke in there somewhere but I can't figure out what it is.

I'm not sure if the story is improving as it goes on or I'm just slowly getting my brain numbed.

From what I've seen of it, probably the latter.

I gave it a shot a while back, but was never able to get into it.

Is it just me or is there no sign of actual attraction between Fleur and Hermione, and instead they just start dancing with each other and making out because the story requires it?

I really like some bits of it like the whole headmistress being much harsher on Fleur because of her own fears about discrimination etc, but I get worried at the hints of Dumbledore bashing.

I don't think I can ever get over my disbelief that two women would ever be okay in such a relationship. Maybe if Harry was some sort of godlike wizard who does no wrong, but the Harry in these stories are slightly above average at best.

They make every other male in the universe a disgusting cowardly pompous ass to make Harry not seem like a average 14 year old with an inferiority complex and no self worth.

Author: Melethril [IMG] PM Harry was proclaimed dead when he was two years old and ended up in an orphanage. But that was only the beginning of his journey. While trying to find his place in the world of magic, he never forgets those whom he views as family.
    Rated: Fiction T - English - Harry P. - Chapters: 30 - Words: 182,447 - Reviews: 2,216 - Favs: 3,757 - Follows: 4,310 - Updated: 09-07-12 - Published: 10-26-10 - id: 6427995

This story is perfect for almost reccomended tread.
pros; Firstly this is an AU where Harry isn't the BWL insted he is a orphan who grew up on orphanages, streets etc. It has interesting look on goblins and elves some moderately interesting magic and a nice setup. Characters is somewhat believable. And OC s doesn't take over the story as I feared.

cons; Harry is hard to relate as his damage is taken too far sometimes. It isn't really hard to ignore at first but it comes up several times and hurts the story making Harry's reactions look unreasonable. Some angst tought at least it is well written. Some characters in last chapters is unreasoable as hell like Frank Longbottom.

so a total 2.5/5 rounded up to 3. Would be Library metarial if Harry hadn't been angsting.

Its an okay story. The complete damaged angsty Harry/orphans parts are absolutely god awful though. Then there's the fact that Snape is apparently the only one who understands damaged kids, because he was one is completely silly. He is a twat who lacks empathy, and he's just the only one who understands apparently. Also the unreasonable fear of "coppers" is really terrible too.

Building Bridges was recced before (without much discussion though) way back in Almost Recommendable III: https://forums.darklordpotter.net/s...ghlight=building+bridges+melethril#post448673

It was also put up for review and wound up in the Trash Bin. Trash Bin Review Thread

Personally I found the story to be pretty awful. It's been a long time since I read it, and there wasn't all that much beyond the beginning then, but it was a cliche ridden nonsense fest. The protagonist was a ludicrous completely emo, pussy Harry and the orphanage/Harry on the streets bit was straight out of Victorian England.

Too much angst and emo-wanking, not enough story.

    Story pace is abysmal.

And... it just got ruined with a random soul bond. I'm sure there is some sort of explanation, but I didn't bother reading any further.

    OH GAWD.

EDIT: Ok I was still willing to give the fic ago because I can handle and extreme guilty pleasure but after this:

    I think I'm done.
