The fuck are you talking about? :colbert: Greater good Grindewalt's philosophie not Dumbledore's.:facepalm

Son I am disappoint. That fanon cliche has no basis in canon.

The moment Dumbledore realizes what the hat is, Fiendfye would erupt from the tip of the Elder Wand. I can't see any advantage for greater masses when their children and grandchildren wear one of the pinnacles of Dark Magic on their heads in the most important 2-3 minutes of their lives.

And 'For the Greater Good' is Grindelwald's slogan.

Yeah the greater good is Grindelwald's slogan but Dumbledore nutrode all over it throughout the series - leaving Harry with the Dursleys was a major one (wizarding world needs a humble hero, not a spoiled little shit). And you're forgetting this was just me trolling around with the idea, not actually Dumbledore saying, "I must let these young children wear a horcruxe upon their heads year after year for the greater good."

You realize that Dumbledore didn't think "oh the Dursley are the worst kind of muggle and will horribly mistreat Harry" when he left Harry with them? He thought "It's safest for Harry if he is with his family." You know, those people who are related to you, share your blood, normally care for you and want you to succeed. How many people have a relative that has a trait you dislike, but you put up with it anyway because you're family and there's a certain kind of loyalty there, regardless of what you think about the person. Keep in mind in canon there's no proof the Dursley were in any way abusive, with the exception of Dudley who (surprise!) is a bully which was not necessarily instituted at a parental level.

He may not have wanted him abused, but he didn't want Harry growing up around magicals because he feared him growing arrogant iirc.

That's just something he says to Mcgonagall. It's made pretty clear that the protection Harry gets from his mother, the one that saves his life first year, is reinforced by living in the home of his mother's only surviving relative.

Not to mention that what he does say,

    seems reasonable enough to me.

Imo, Dumbledore didn't plan or even remotely want for Harry to be anything but happy. The levelheadedness was certainly a bonus, but he certainly was far from pleased with the way Petunia and co. treated Harry, which comes across in the sixth book.

August 1st 1940, World War II is in full swing in our, real universe.

London, UK - Harry Potter, just after Voldemort dies in Deathly Hallows, appears in a dark alley.
He has his old phoenix wand. The Horcrux from his body is gone.

Berlin, Nazi Germany - Lord Voldemort, with his memories up to his death, appears in a dark alley.
He has his old phoenix wand. He has no Horcruxes.

Magic is introduced to our universe, caused by their arrival.
That is, 9 months from their arrival, Muggleborns will start getting born around the world.

The fic would be of course Harry-centric. Once he figures out that there is no Magical World, he would most likely choose to help Britain in the war.
Eventually though, once he finds out Voldemort is here too (helping the Nazis?), things will get tricky.

Did you even look at what I wrote? I didn't say they abused him at all, I said, "wizarding world needs a humble hero, not a spoiled little shit."

It still isn't a greater good thing. He's leaving him with people he believes will treat Harry well (family is family, after all) and also keep the blood wards functioning. The fact that he'll grow up humble is a happy bonus.

And he didn't even say the Wizarding World needed a humble hero- not in that quote at least. He's talking about Harry and his personal wellbeing, not how to turn him into the ideal champion.

It's just my take on it, Dumbledore wanting a humble Harry rather than a famous Harry, but it was still Dumbledore's choice in the matter that decided it all. Also, are we forgetting Dumbledore and Snape's last talk together? Raised like a pig for the slaughter, or however it goes?

Dumbledore didn't even realize the necessity of that until CoS.

Dumbledore had his doubts prior to that. Harry only confirmed it by giving him the diary after the CoS incident. I'd like to think Albus didn't have a choice other than follow the course of action he followed in canon.

In GoF, JKR says that there was a look of triumph in Dumbledore's eyes when Harry revealed that Voldemort took his blood. Maybe Albus thought that the connection would keep Harry alive as long as the other horcruxes kept Voldemort alive.

You mean the talk were he said he wants Harry to sacrifice himself so no one else dies, but it was later revealed Dumbledore had a supercomplicated plan for Harry to live, if he thinks he is going to die?

Imo, Dumbledore isnt good, or evil, or "for the greater good". He's a Hypocrite.
On one hand, he wants Harry to have a normal childhood, wich is why he doesn't tell him about the prophecy or gives him anything (training, money, assistance) when it comes to offing Voldemort.
On the other hand, he wants him to off Voldemort, wich is why he tells him about Toms childhood, makes him (try to) learn Occlumency and makes those hairbrained Plots that were revealed in book 7.

He is not evil, or he would have never sacrificed himself in book 6.
He's not "for the Greater Good" or he would have, you know, actually trained Harry and formed him into his weapon. God knows Harry would have done almost anything Dumbledore asked him. He can't manipulate his pawn without, you know, actually manipulating his pawn.
Dumbledore was the one who decided his upbringing, he could have had Harry told "it is you honor, your duty and your destiny to sacrifice yourself in order to avenge your parents and bring down the personified evil called Voldemort" three times a day throughout his whole childhood.
Dumbledore is not a good (as in, morally and rationally sound) because he put the Philosophers Stone into Hogwarts ... and made a ton of other questionable decisions, like letting Snape teach like he does.

The Question is, book 1 through 4 he was practically worshipped as a saint and held 3 of the most important positions in the wizarding World.

Why did he not do anything beyond looking wise. Although most superstitions in hp are just that, superstitions (no, there are no "Lords" lording over the Muggleborns without any rights), Prodigy Dumbledore with all his Knowledge and Power and Connections should be able to do more then a random student, shoudnt he?

    Conclusion: Dumbledore is a Plotdevice.

Step by step, beat by beat, IT's getting closer. You can read how it's changing all, but you can't do a thing. They said it started on a web page, but now it's gone viral. They called IT 'fanon' when it was a small thing, just a trifle, now it's taking over and people are falling... Nobody remembers what it was like before IT happened, and the last stronghold against it, the last beacon of hope is slowly being compromised...

...You read that?? IT's here now!!!

    Run!

I really like this idea. It's completely original. What would Voldemort be doing? Stealing muggleborns? Trying to take over the world? Would Harry create Hogwarts? I would bring some other Hogwarts students if possible though, as you would have hundreds of OC characters. Plus, I don't think Harry could create Hogwarts on his own, or anything even remotely similar.

Well, add in the three Deathly Hallows, especially the resurrection stone and we can have Harry build Hogwarts or something on a less grander scale. Also, I can't see Voldemort working together with muggles he considers to be inferior especially since there are no pure-blood wizards and the only magical ones are the muggle-borns.

He'd hunt Harry down... and make sweet, sweet, love to him.

That is, if years of fanfiction are anything to go by. :facepalm

Explicit slash with Voldemort didn't gain much following or popularity until firephoenix8 came along. Seriously, what is wrong with her?

    :vorlon:

I got abused on ffn.net for asking that in the reviews.

Well, in this scenario Muggleborns are a commodity that cannot be ignored.
They are the only wizards in the world and Voldemort is going to understand this even if he hates the situation.

How the mighty have fallen, Lord Voldemort wanting Muggleborns for his new society.
Naturally, he is going to instill Wizarding Superiority in them, but still.

The last couple of Grindelwald-era fics in WBA have got me thinking- what if Dumbledore hadn't gone to meet with Tom at the orphanage? What if the war effort actually cranked up enough that no one could be spared to meet with him until years after the fact - seeing Tom Riddle at 14, or 15, or even 16 as opposed to 10 or 11 would certainly make him far less moldable.

Do you think he would have still become Voldemort if he was so far behind his peers, or if he would even be allowed to learn magic at Hogwarts or from the teachers? Imagine if Dumbledore had actually had enough time to dedicate to Tom's upbringing and enough grief over the war to really try.

Even just having a different teacher deployed to talk with him could change something, but I don't yet know what.
