One of the best ongoing Naruto fics, imo. Better than a fair number of non-ongoing fics too and it updates regularly.

 

Unfortunately, I caught up on all the action, so know I have nothing to read.

 

Anyone know of any decent Hokage!Naruto? None of that Hokage-at-12 crap.

The problem with Hokage!Naruto fics in this age of the fandom is that the current state of Naruto in canon is so hilariously powerful and with so much potential that only Kishimoto's DBZ-Esque Powerup Scale has kept him from being an unstoppable juggernaut who roflstomps anyone and everyone. The entirety of Akatsuki minus OP Sharingan Hacker Bitches would be absolutely roflstomped by Naruto at this point in the manga. If Madara wasn't a regenerating, immortal-unlimited-chakra!Zombie with access to the Juubi's power and the Rinnegan he'd have already been shit all over.


If Kabuto had ever gotten close to Naruto, he'd have been shit all over. If Orochimaru (assuming his power level is the same) gets anywhere near him, he's going to get shit all over. Sasuke has literally no chance. None. Everyone knows it. If he gives Naruto anywhere near an even fight it will be because Kishimoto was too busy cumswapping with another Sasuke Fanboi to write a realistic (according to in-universe logic) fight scene or because he handed the Uchiha yet another retardedly, hilariously rage-inducing Overpowered technique.

The fact of the matter is, there is nothing that most writers can think of that Naruto couldn't handle without going into DBZ-Esque power levels where fighters blow up entire worlds and move faster than light commonly and do stupid dances to combine their powers.

Fucking HATE Shippuden. God.

 

The only way that you could have a believable Hokage Naruto in a fic is one of three ways: either Naruto himself is not the protagonist and occupies the same position that Tsunade or the Sandaime occupies in most stories; or the story focuses near-entirely on non-combat situations such as political games, drama, or a slice of life-type story; OR the threat that Naruto faces is a type that inundates all his earlier accomplishments, such as an invasion from across the sea (again), or aliens or the Japanese equivalent of a Balrog.

And while all that is possible and in some cases it would be entertaining, it wouldn't really be one of the greats. The story of Naruto, at least initially, was all about his struggle to change the ninja world and become Hokage. And a story that takes place after he accomplished all that would be like a story that shows Samwise Gamgee gardening post-Fellowship, or Commander Shepard fighting pirates after saving the galaxy. Pretty much anything that takes place after they've accomplished what they set out to do wouldn't be able to top anything they did before.

Of course, that's not counting one-shots and perception pieces. There are a number of very good ones that, even if they have nothing to do with his struggle to become Hokage, are downright epic.


What I REALLY want to see in a Hokage story is, well, him actually becoming Hokage. Most stories we see him accomplishing missions and/or defeating evil organizations and what-not, with Naruto getting promotions almost as an after-thought. I'd like to see him consistently show him being not only stronger and faster, but also call-forwards showing his ability to lead and inspire. To see him making allies and friends through his missions in high places, or with people who will grow up to be in those high places. To see him progressing through-out the years, and distinguish himself through impossible odds and suicide missions, developing his own skills and style as he grows--NOT relying on Kyuubi-powers or copying his father's dress-style and jutsu (save for Rasengan, which at this point is effectively his own).

And save for about two stories that have it to some degree, I haven't seen any that seem to show this progress (those being Naruto: Eleven by Geor-Sama, and Hurricane Suite by Inert). Shame.

 

So has anyone found anything even half decent over the last couple of weeks/ months? I tried looking last night, but there wasn't anything that I noticed and in the end I just ended up reading Patriot's Dawn again.
It seems like all there is at the moment is a bunch of crap with the Kyubi falling over itself to jack Naruto off.

And yeah, Dr Sarcasm that's the crux of it. Politics is the only thing left at that point and most people can't be bothered doing that belivably, plus I have a hard time seeing Naruto as having any talent in that particularly field.

And as an aside, why does everyone have Naruto wear the same outfit as Minato? I mean really what is up with the obsession with that bloody cloak?

 

Because its fucking awesome. Obviously.

 

The only good story I have read that matches that description is "Uzumaki's Peace" by Inert.

I wouldn't say they're epic so much as they were pretty darn good at the time. And it's more of one-shots than perception pieces. But alright. I'll post the ones that made it onto my favorites list.

Yeah, it does that. It's one of those fics that stay with you, like it or not. At least that's the case for me and I haven't read it in several years.

 

I think I read 20 Times once a year or so, and it never seems to get old.

 

Same here, it is a fic that I know I will end up depressed by the end of and yet I keep reading again...

 

I like Contemplating Orange and Hate and a Stolen Dream as character pieces. I got tired of the 20 truths format a long time ago, though.
