Most Original Fic You've Ever Read

What are the most original Harry Potter fics you've ever read? For me it is the Hero Trilogy by Joe6991.

In this, Harry isn't an invincible man who never gets hurt. He trains for months to get his skills, not like most stories where a trip to Knocturn Alley suddenly gives him powers greater than Dumbledore and Voldemort. The whole concept of life, fate, time, Guardians, Destroyers, and creation are original. Apparrently, since the beginning of time, darkness was always stronger than light. God is dead and his throne remains empty. There is so much more things in this trilogy that make it otiginal.

"Potters Resistance 1: Breaking Ties" by ip82 is pretty original. The best thing about it is that although its increadably original, he still finds canon proof to back up his ideas - they arent just random.

The most original i've ever read is "Evil Be Thou Good" It's title is similair to that. It's a nice long, one-shot AU.

One of my favorites. It's a crossover with Hellraiser so it's not like the ideas came from nowhere. It's an original cross and it's put together incredibly well though.

    Burn, Baby, Burn!

With the exception of Trident's plagiarism, I'm pretty sure that I have never, and will never, read another fic like this.

I'd have to agree with Brooklynight (no Sera, this isn't an ego booster :p) - Happy Red Prince. Very, very original and rather well done.

Yes, Serra's "Happy Red Prince" has the most interesting characterization of Harry yet.

"Harry Potter and the Nexus" by WoMo has the most original OC I've ever seen in fanfiction.

Jbren's "Bungle in the Jungle" has the most unusual perspective I've seen in HP fanfiction.

Vorlon's "Scorpion Sorcerer" has the most detailed explanation of magic (for those who like that).

Nonjon's "Where in the world is Harry Potter" has the most original take on super!Harry.

Blot's "Make a Wish" probably has the most original plot (in the first part).

The best plot twist IMO has "Harry Potter and the Eclipse of Remembrance" by The Zig.

The most unusual and original setting goes to Lord Ravenclaw's "Era of Hogwarts".

The most influential fic in terms of ideas it has gathered and spread around is definitely Rosswrock's "The Power of Time". It's closely followed by Barb's triology.

But if you're asking for the highest concetration of new ideas, the fight would be tied between "A Second Chance at Life" by Miranda Flairgold (new ideas per word count) and "Mastermind Hunting" by Louis IX (bulk amount of original plots and ideas).

It's a crossover? Never knew that. But who would have thought of summoning Demons to kill Tommy-boy?

So then I'd then have to say....... The Broom. I swear it's demonic. Not quite as much as the other one though.

I think JBern has some of the most original shit out there, i tend to like To Fight The Coming Darkness over Bungle butthey both are extremely original, as is Blot, and IP82, any other story that can be considered really original have been abandoned and i have forgetten the names of them..

I think 'most original' is sort of a tricky concept. Because you can be extremely original in writing something that relates so little, it's not even interesting.

I mean how can you write the most original "Harry still a student at Hogwarts" story? Most original is not always a good thing, but one of my favorite stories that's significantly unlike any others and has yet to be mentioned (Evil Be Thou My Good is probably my favorite highly original fic) is Celestial Requiem. I mean if you told me you were going to use journalism in both the muggle and magical worlds coupled with an intelligent Harry who writes things people connect with... I'd laugh you out of the room at the idea you could make it a fic that interests me. But this one fascinated me. And still does. Raven Dragonclaw's Elemental Series is a lot like Miranda Flairgold's in patently ignoring much of canon with original characters and magic styles. To the point it doesn't interest me.

I think the fact that I've yet to see anyone try and copy the idea or do their own take on it, is a testament to a brilliant idea that's difficult to improve on. Much like Evil Be Thou My Good. I've seen artist Harry as a painter a few times, drawing, or sculpting the same. And musical virtuoso, with your flutes or tin whistles or most often pianos. But journalism? Affecting change through solely a careful explanation of ideas? Can't think of anything similar out there.

I hadn't ever come across that before. It's a shame that Celestial Requiem is abandoned. I always wanted someone to do a Ender's Game Journalism-type fic in the HP universe.

Jeconais has a HP/Tomb Raider plot bunny that he hasn't really continued, but if it ever gets moving, it is definitely one of the most Original ones I have read. The problem is all the ones I think of as being original are crossovers: Evil Be Thou Good.

Probably the most original complete HP fic I have read is Bungle in the Jungle. Of course, there are a lot humour fics that are original, but the fact that they are pure humour sometimes makes them less good (Luna's Hubby, Make a Wish - which went down hill a bit in the end, So Sue Me)

EvilDayster's series (A Parent's Secret Gift, The Secret Diary) has one of the more original plot devices I've seen, but the story itself is only mediocre.

    Evil Be Thou Good.

I love that story. It's the only one I've ever read more than three times. I hardly ever re-read a story once, let alone three times. I just... can't get enough of Pinhead and his crew.

I'm honored that my story appeared here. I'd blush if I could.

I agree about Celestial Requiem. But I'm not sure if that story is really abandoned.

Raven Dragonclaw said here that she will continue it. That was about two months ago.

Agreed on the not 'quite' abandoned bit. Raven's not updated any of her fics in a year, but the last she posted on ff.net was on the Celestial side-story (about an american private investigator-another crappy cliche sounding sort of thing that works wonderfully). And apparently this year of high school and AP tests kept her busy.

Though I do wonder how "original" it really is to come up with a believable way to mesh two different universes in a crossover. I mean for Evil Be Thou My Good, Russell didn't create HP, nor did he create Hellraiser or the Cenobytes. He just figured out how to make the two work together (beautifully I might add).

Ditto for Jeco's HP/Tomb Raider bunny. The whole genre of "fanfiction" is reinterpretation of others ideas, rather than originality. Because often the originality has no hook or interest for us that recognizable characters, universes, objects, or histories does.

I had two stories that i thought were quite original. There was Amerision's Equal and opposite and of Blood and power. Of course there was alot more but i thought those 2 stories were quite original. There was this challeng that Amerision set out, with harry taking over as Voldemort, so he would be both Harry POtter and also attend attacks with death eaters. I dont know if someone actually did the challeng but that really is original.
