Scholastic is putting out some new versions of the paperback book covers to celebrate fifteen years of Harry Potter. I'll post them here as they come along. Click for the large version.



IMO, this first one captures a sense of wonder that is missing from the Mary GrandPre version.

What's your favorite HP cover? Swedish Deathly Hallows is mine... even though it doesn't really have much to do with the subject matter.

 

That looks neat. I never really liked the American book covers. Some were better than others, but the Goblet of Fire cover in particular gave Harry this really stupid-looking expression that colors my opinion on the entirety of them. Probably because it's my favorite book of the series.

Looking through all the covers on the wiki page, I think my favorites are the British "Bloomsbury Adult Edition" versions.

 

Hedwig is pretty boss in that cover, I have to admit.

The Swedish covers were epic. All of them.

 

New cover is awesome. Not quite awesome enough to get me to part with my money, though. An Emma Watson nude cover might do it.

It just brings back all the memories of reading it over and over again.

 

I actually really like these two. They look fantastically strange - I'd frame them and put them on my wall.

I've always been annoyed that they drew Harry with straight hair.

 

What the shitting fuck is happening here? Why did I laugh so hard when I noticed the carnivorous Pope hat on Harry's head? This being COS only further confounds things.

My favorite covers are probably the Danish and Dutch ones. KHAAAAAAAAAAN!!'s link shows the Ukrainian and Japanese ones are pretty cool also but I'm too lazy to search them up in greater detail right now. It's supposed to be Harry, the Sorting Hat, and Tom Riddle's diary.

Perhaps the translation to Italian was confusing?

 

I think that's a snake head on his head....

 

I think it is a snake head, what with the basilisk and Harry being a parselmouth. I just don't get why the Diary's flying over the Forbidden Forest, of all places - it's pretty much the last place it would want to take him.

 

All the Swedish covers are awesome, but the first one must be the best



It perfectly captures the wonder of the HP world.

What you have to realize about the Swedish covers is also that all the lines are drawn in a glossy material, meaning that it looks much better in real life than on the interwebs.
