This will overlap somewhat with what Red Aviary said.

I would go with Revolution of Evangelion's suggested order.

    1. Watch the Platinum edition DVDs, episodes 1-20.
    2. Watch the Director's Cut episodes 21-24 from that set.
    3. Watch End of Evangelion, until you get to the Shinji Instrumentality scenes.
    4. Watch the Platinum edition DVDs, episodes 25-26.
    5. Finish watching End of Evangelion.
Of course, stopping the movie to watch 25-26 is totally optional, but it does put the scenes in what is more or less the correct chronological order.

Death & Rebirth is a combination clip show/sneak preview, not a movie. The first half is really just an abbreviated look back at the series, to catch the Japanese audience up on 'current events' before the End of Evangelion movie, and the second half is an unfinished, rough, version of the opening scenes of End of Evangelion, just to show people that they had actually made some progress.

Since, by this time, we all have access to the series on DVD and the entire, completed, EoE movie, we need neither the clip show reminder, nor the sneak preview of the movie: So, Death & Rebirth should be avoided at all costs, unless you've already watched every other bit of Eva ever produced and are really bored and curious.

You certainly shouldn't spend good money on it, unless you're a rabid collector.

And, when you're done with all of that, catch the Rebuild movies, or read Nobody Dies. Neither are finished, but both are enjoyable. :awesome
I don't think there are too many fanfics with both a dedicated TV Tropes page and a Facebook page.

Definitely watch the series and EoE before the Rebuild movies!

Or just don't watch the Rebuild movies. But seriously Warlocke, that is the most proper order list yet until you started to talk about fanfiction.

Hm. Like I said before, I frankly don't think the endings are compatible at all. Shinji comes to two different conclusions about things in each of them that contradict each other. I say again that just finishing the TV series, then watching End of Evangelion is the best way, and think of each ending as a different take on things (though EoE is pretty much the "real" ending).

I'd hardly say it's "to be avoided at all costs." That makes it sound like it's awful or something. At most it's just redundant. Though I'd also recommend not going to great lengths to watch it.

Yeah, a fanfic with a fucking Facebook page of all things really inspires me to want to read it. :|

I actually did read part of it, I think. I don't remember much, but I know I stopped pretty early in.

This is a completely different post.

Thing is, he ends up having the same conclusion in both of them. If it is the case of it being the same event or two different events with the same end, that is always in debate.

Isn't linking this stuff directly kinda against rules, though?

No clue. And it's not a camrip, it's a fansub from the DVD which was released earlier today. Actually quite good, though as always with Evangelion really confusing at times.

Definitely not what I was expecting.

I think I'll wait a little while for a more professional translation, but it's good to know it's finally out. I watched the camrip, but it was choppy at best.

I do to, but I still watched it and loved it. And when it comes out legit in the US I'll buy the hell out of it and watch all three movies in a row in one epic night of laughter and depression.

I heard it went crazy wild with the plot, and took a dive into typical EVA depressing-madness. That true?

    That is an accurate summation.

You would not believe half the things I could tell you.

Why is it that I rarely feel bad when people like Shinji cause apocalypses due to well intentions and misinformation? That everyone hates him for something he didn't mean to do and got encouraged to do (I'm looking at you Misato.) probably helps a bit too.

But yeah, while it became depressing and brutal that's what Evangelion is all about. Wouldn't have it any other way.

I watched it and I still wouldn't believe half the things you could tell me.

That was an hour and a half of contextless ass-pulls and apocalyptic tomfoolery. I was thoroughly disappointed with how many things were thrown at the viewers and how few (read: none at all) were explained. A veritable typhoon of What The Actual Fuck Did I Just Watch.

A friend of mine tried to put it into perspective for me: It may not make sense right now, but 3.33 was epic setup for the fourth movie.

Or the Rebuild series kinda blows. I follow that general idea.

I really liked 1.2 and 2.2, they were fucking awesome.

I'm still wondering whether to bother watching 3.3 until 4.4 comes out, or not.

Harry and Shinji could start a support group for people who are at the center of world-changing events, but get told jack shit about what they need to know.

When you absolutely need to them to do something in order to save the world, don't tell them how to do it. In fact, don't even tell them that they have to do it, or that it even needs done.

When you need them to NOT do something, because it could end the world, make sure not to tell them any of that shit, either.
