    Oh? well, whoops. :p

There aren't many female authors who have 20+ books out in paperback and are anti-fanfiction. I just took the first one that popped into my head which has a good HP crossover or 2. (and both of those are part of the same series)

Quite unlikely. That's simply his style.

I also want to point out that his 'shitty' book has spawned what is probably the best TV show on television and the #1 most pirated show.

Great point. Marvel and DC have an established history of alternate universe settings that have done some incredibly wonky stuff. They would have no problem setting up subsections of DC Elseworlds or Marvel "What If?" for fan work, and it wouldn't have any negative impact on their sales.

As for whether or not this will be good for writers or fanfiction in general, I'm not sure. I can see a few benefits: 1. Fanfic writers who have been deleting their fics might be more likely to keep them up or put them in a published form. 2. Some good writers might get book deals based on their popularity.

On the other hand, it could go the other way. 1. Some writers who would have made their fics available for free might keep it to themselves waiting for a Kindle deal. 2. Lots of crap writers who pile on the cliche might make it impossible for good writers to get noticed.

I actually doubt that JK will be the issue if/when i t comes to signing Harry Potter. Which ever company it is that owns the literary rights to the story are going to be an issue. Harry Potter is the golden egg laying goose, and you don' t just hand that away for no good reason.

Thought I'd re-read Wand and Shield today. Imagine my surprise when I ran into a couple of ads at the bottom of every page (ff.net). Is that legal? Isn't the site profiting from the author's intellectual property with this? And by the author, I mean the original author.

An interesting article was run in The National Post today, mostly touching on ownership & control of original content that the fanfic authors themselves create.
