Someone mentioned Madeon earlier, but neglected to provide any links.

He's an interesting blend of the French House scene and the more poppy, glitzy, glamorous side of EDM, but he actually does it better - which I guess is the point of "recommendation" and such. He's right around five months older than me, which is kind of scary.

Featured on Pete Tong's BBC Radio 1 (which is legendary for scouting talent) and in multiple mainstream festivals across America (EDC, ULTRA, and such), his hits include Pop Culture, in which he attempts to prove to most DJs that yes, you can in fact play Ableton and FLstudios like a musical instrument live, and do it well.

He has since released a bunch of singles that have featured all over the place. Easily my favorite track by him would be Icarus, though my roomate happens to prefer The City and Finale.

And as much as I used to think that the only version of Raise Your Weapon by Deadmau5 that's worth listening to was Noisia's (which is strange because normally, I avoid the whole brostep craze like the plague), Madeon manages to kill it on that too.

Of course, he's also done a remix of Pendulum's The Island, but while it was pretty good, the original still outshines it a fair bit in my opinion.

I must say that after getting their discography, Above and Beyond has become a new trance favorite.

While I don't know how well these guys fit in amongst the other mentions, the Faunts are an incredibly chill band. Their music is very cold, very calculated. Many of you probably know them from M4 Part II or Das Malefitz, the end credit songs from Mass Effect 1 and 3 respectively.

There is also M4 Part I, a song that never fails ease me back into a very relaxed state of mind. Close your eyes, listen, and it will take you places.

Finally, there is Out On A Limb if you want something more invigorating without being blasted by incessant sound--it does what it needs without wasted noise.

While not intended for it, I've found greatest enjoyment from these songs when I max the bass of my speaker system--hence my rec of them for this thread.

Recently, I've become addicted to Dash Berlin and ATB's Apollo Road, which is everything I love about Trance all at once.

@Menace: I've made it pretty clear to you that I really, really don't like Monstercat, I think.

There is, however, one thing that they managed to do right.

Dropping here to rec one glitch/dub track by PANTyRAID, a collaboration between MartyParty and Ooah from the Glitch Mob.

I just spent like, an hour listening to it over and my judgement is "Much like a porno that never gets to the point when the panties come off, this album fails to deliver," but there is...

Sixteen and Free. Because it sounds like your first candyflip.

Edit: Also, have something that's actually much better - I've been fucking obsessed with it all over again for like, the past month. It's more of GriZ and he is SO freaking good.

Starting to get way into liquid drum & bass. Anyone have some recs in the vein of Cyantific and Nu:Tone?

Oh, download The Polish Ambassador's latest album as well, amazing album. It is 'name your price' aka 0 dollars or 20. One of the best albums of the year. At least listen to one song :3

Seconded. This is definitely one of my favorite albums out, especially nowadays with so much terrible shit flooding the airwaves.

Edit: Lemme put this in perspective for you.

I seem to have stumbled into an alternate dimension since I've never heard of any of this...I'm thoroughly confused right now. Too many hyperlinks, not enough understanding.

Basically: I'm new to Electronic Music and all that stuff, can someone give me a basic understanding of what the hell this is and how to differentiate the styles/subgenres?

    Edited to fix my noobishness

    Just listen to the music~

I might respond later, if Lungs doesn't, about to go to sleep, but really, just try listening to some of the music linked, and perhaps doing some reading on Wikipedia, though Wikipedia has a lot of bullshit.

And it is called electronic music, as a whole, not techno. Never call it techno.

Well see, that's why I disregarded Wikipedia. I'd rather have the explanation given by some competent and intelligent people who actually can respond to questions. I'll be sure to give it a listen when I'm off work since youtube and similar things are blocked her (surprisingly DLP isn't, go figure). I will endeavor to call it by it's proper name though.

If not (or afterwards) try This While I can't speak to the quality of either like the aficionados here, I can tell you I personally think both are fucking awesome

I'm not that great with classifications as far as music is concerned, but whatever.

Most of these recommendations are pretty easy to listen to, if that makes any sense. Not quite the same type of Electronic Music that has been posted so far, but it's good nonetheless.

SBTRKT. It's kind of soulful, as far as electronic music is concerned, a lot of it has to do with the vocals. The singer that you'll hear goes by the name of Sampha. He and SBTRKT collaborate frequently. Good Stuff.

Gold Panda is great. A lot of his stuff is mellow and pretty easy to listen to. The link is to an EP from a few years ago- A couple of different artist making remixes of one of his tracks.

Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. This guy makes some great jams. Seriously. And his live shows look like they're tons of fun. He wears these pretty elaborate homemade dinosaur costumes while preforming. He also usually tours with these two girls who wear Dino outfits and dance on stage.

Flying Lotus , while I don't like all of his stuff, This song is pretty catchy.

Mount Kimbie. I saw that a few others had rec'd Mount Kimbie. Re-posting because they have a new album out (as of last week I think) and this is an excellent song.

For those who are searching for a more Hip Hop/Rap + jazz sound.

Tokimonsta She's pretty tight. DJ with R&B/Jazz/Electronica samples.

Nujabes Same guy who did the music for Samurai Champloo. R.I.P.

Also, TNGHT. For all you Trap stars out there.
