Why is this thread tagged with all those pairings? Did the author say those were the pairings?

Nope, those are just some of the pairings people really want to happen.

That's really not how the tagging system works, ffs. Especially the pairing tags.

Basically this. Most times the funny tags are forgiven but that many pairings listed will confuse a lot of people who haven't read the thread and are looking for Harry/Whatever specifically.

On that note, went ahead and added an author tag and ASoIaF tag as well.

Just started reading this. I'm on Chapter 2.

    It's good.

I like placing Harry as a Baratheon, I like what's been done with his memories/dreams, and I like how he's growing up compared to Joffrey.

Loads of potential here. Gonna wait to rate til I finish it, but guessing it'll be 5/5.

I like Harry and his attitude towards this place. It is understandable that he would have a holler than you attitude. Westeros is a horrible horrible place and he can see this with modern eyes. He knows what will be done with humanity, so he has a stress beyond anything else assuming one cares about others. All this knowledge, all this goodwill, all the hope that the modern world is compared to the hell he is in now.

He knows people can be better and he can be the one that leads the way. HE HAS THE POWERRRR!!!!! He needs to be realistic about how it can be done as well, it will be a challenge. Just saying, "Pft, that is how Westeros is and he has to deal with it", no. He is a good person with an amazing power, he should do what he can.

That's the second time I've seen that questioned posed. The thought never really popped into my head before I saw it asked the first time, but now I really am curious as to whether it will happen or not.

Harry IS really close to Myrcella and he craves Cersei's love so it's not really out of the realm of possibility.

Is previous knowledge of ASOIF required to read this?

I'd say no, but it does add to it.

I was reading the reviews on fanfiction for this story. Apparently the story was tagged Harry/Margaery before the author changed it to Harry/Unknown.

A little tidbit from one of the review

Familiarity with Game of Thrones (the TV show) would be enough to understand just about everything in this fic, I think. Reading the books would obviously add to the experience (I mean, the title itself is a reference to something only mentioned in the books), but it's not really necessary.

Just read through it. I thought it was totally wonderful. 5/5. Why does it seem like the only good HP fics are crossovers.

This is the first ASoIaF fic I've read. I've read all the books but the latest, and I'm not a very big fan. The biggest problem I had with the original was the lack of protagonist to hitch onto. Anytime I'd get close to it, the character would get killed, or I'd have to put up with Cersei for the next 2 hours. HP crossover solves that perfectly. I know enough about canon to follow events but not enough that characterization could ever be a problem.

I like that Harry doesn't have a good wand. I'd prefer it to stay wandless as he works on that ability. I don't mind him getting a wand as long as its way down the line. I think the fact that he kind of has to keep magic hidden prevents it from becoming abusive to the crossover.

Pairings - Harry siscon imouto incest love - westeros style? Yes, please.

Cersei? Fuck that bitch is psycho. She loves power and Lannisters. If Harry dyed his hair blond she'd fuck him right now, 9 years old or no. He'd be Jamie + possible king + fucking MAGIC. No way she wouldn't try to hit that. I doubt Harry could go for it. At least as his character currently stansd.

Sansa? Yeah I agree with everyone else. They'd go great together, but this is Westeros. Nobody is ever fucking happy.

I haven't been this pumped for updates in a long time. I applaud you, and this fic. If you abandon it, I will kill you.

and offtopic: As someone who is going to be a history teachers and love it, I found the little argument on knights absolutely fascinating. I side with the swords sucked camp. I think you guys pictured knights differently. One was the kind from A Knight's Tale, the other is actual combat knights.

This fic is quite nice. I just read the book series for the first time this past month, and it's great to be able to read a good quality crossover fic based around it.

My rating is 4/5. Since people were apparently a bit bothered by someone else giving the fic a 4/5, I figure it can't hurt to explain where I found a point to deduct.

There are still some minor grammatical bobbles here and there, and I'm uncommonly sensitive to such things. A few cases of a misplaced apostrophe ("eight nameday's"; "The Velaryon's could", etc.), a few places where the class of the person doesn't quite match the quality of their speech (e.g. Gendry where he was talking about smithing), and so forth.

A few other characters don't quite yet live up to the high standard that GRRM set, IMO. I don't like Tyrion as much as the book Tyrion, for instance. The characters are still very good - just not quite GRRM standards. It's unfair for me to deduct based on that ridiculously high standard, but with the books so fresh in my memory, I can't quite help comparing.

But the main thing is that I'm not entirely sold on how the various adults treat Harry.

Yes, kids have to grow up fast in that sort of world, and are treated accordingly. Yes, Harry is special, even by the standards of some of the special people he's surrounded with. Yes, his memories of his past life give him a maturity and presence beyond what any normal kid would have.

But I don't know. I feel that the adults - even the ones closest to him - would find it difficult to notice all that. "Yeah, he's pretty special...for a nine year old." I think they would all see the potential in him, but wouldn't see that he's already most of the way there, even to the point of applying some willful ignorance.

That isn't to say that I can't be sold on it; it's just that I haven't been sold yet. The story is still young, and quite possibly I'll end up having to up the score at some point. I'll be reading this one with great interest.

I moved the weaponry discussion into this thread: https://forums.darklordpotter.net/showthread.php?t=24077

Ok. I am watching this thread now. And I won't hesitate to close it and hand out punishments if it gets out of hand again.

Oh - and the next one I find spamming the library tags will get a few days to think about it.

Now have a nice day and move along.

While I like the story so far, I think it is a tad early to give it a 5/5, I'd like to see a little more, as so far we've only seen Harry's childhood. Although it seems unlikely, stories tend to fall apart when adolescence hits, if childhood has been done well.

    Still, I'll reclutantly concede a 5/5, I couldn't stop reading.

Maybe the feudal hierarchy isn't the most important part of Westeros that Harry needs to drag kicking and screaming into the Century of the Fruitbat after all. If he could just manage to make this world a little less crapsack, I think I'd call that a win.

Just had a thought if the whole ghosts thing will be more important if you get to when Oberyn comes into play? :)

Apologies if this is an old point, but after a bit of reading I have noted from chpt 1 that joffrey is probably only 10 at this point. There is probably therefore a good 1, and perhaps 2 years before Jon Arynn falls. So...plenty of potential and time for butterflys to take effect!

I think the author mentioned that they would be using the TV show ages, rather than the younger book ages.

Well that can't be correct, because he explicitly describes harry as 9 and joffrey as one year older?
