You're assuming Ned would react the same in finding out that everyone but Harry aren't Robert's children. I would think he'd try something different than to exile the queen and the kids. There would be a legitimate heir, so Ned's and Cersei conversation before Robert's death might be a very different one.

Considering her new found appreciation of Harry, she might even be willing to boost him up in Joff's place if Ned were to keep quiet. I still think she'd kill him, but maybe not as quickly, avoiding war with the Starks until she could dispose of him quietly and with less bloodshed.

Joff could still be married off to Sansa to solidify the bond and give Ned a false sense of security. Blah blah blah... we're still talking years in the future and lots of time for the plots to spiral well out of canon.

I'm not re-inventing the wheel, just redesigning it. Canon is my guideline. Varys and Littlefinger are still scheming bastards, Ramsay Bolton is still a vile cur, Stannis is still a stickler for rules, Ned is still painfully honorable.

If it comes to that, I don't think Ned would keep quiet - not about that. We're talking about the most honorable fool in all of Westeros.

And whereas in canon and on the TV show Joffrey was too young to be King, he'll be almost a man grown at the same point in the 'timeline'. If Ned proclaims Harry the true king, I don't see him surviving very long.

    If it comes to that.

Less speculating about what may happen in your story, more posting of the next chapter. :p

There's the rub. Yes, he's honorable to a fault. After the conversation, he assumed that Cersei was going to go quietly into exile, which was an incredibly stupid thing to do knowing/suspecting what she's capable of. I just couldn't suspend my disbelief in that instance for canon.

So, the question is, would it be more honorable to make sure a legitimate heir made it to the throne (protecting his children (Harry) as he swore to Robert) and figure out some way to hamstring her later, or expose Cersei.

Having a real heir there would have to change Ned's plans dramatically. He wouldn't be in a rush to leave for Winterfell, because he had to stick around to protect Harry, there would be no need for a note to Robert's brother, so there's no proof of treason, unless Cersei manufactured one, which I wouldn't put past her, etc.

I'm not saying he wouldn't expose her, but doing so right then might put the real heir in a dangerous situation. In that case I think he would err on the side of waiting until he was in a better situation before doing so.

If it was anybody else but Ned Stark they would simply poison Joeffry and put Harry to throne. But we are talking abut Ned Stark so that probably isn't an option.

Lol. If all goes well I'll be done with the rough draft of the last scene by tonight. You can expect the next chapter no later than the 10th.

He could also tell Harry. Harry will be only a year or so younger than Joffrey, and I could see Ned Stark deciding that Harry has a right to know (especially if Robert is still injured on that hunting trip).

How that would play out, well, I'm not sure since there's a lot of ways the author could take it (seriously, OP, your name is impossible to remember the spelling for) -- but it would play out differently with Harry being aware of the truth.

Actually, Harry has Targaryen blood through his father. Rhaelle Targaryen was Robert's paternal grandmother, which makes King Aegon V Targaryen [aka Egg, from Dunk and Egg] Robert's great grandfather.

House Baratheon has likely always had Targaryen blood. It's founder, Lord Orys Baratheon, was the rumoured bastard half-brother of Aegon I, and played a big role in helping the Targaryens first conquer Westeros. The rumour seems to be confirmed in the fic.

Maegor wanted Harry to use his magic to restore the Targaryen reign, to honor his ancestors, and had started referring to Harry as 'bastard spawn'; said that as a scion of the treacherous House Baratheon and a descendant of his 'bastard uncle' Orys, he could aspire for no greater title.

How long until Harry decides to try a wand made of dragon's bone?

As far as we know, bones aren't used in wandcrafting. Weirwood sounds like a safer bet.

2 questions...exactly how old is Harry at this point and have the Greyjoys attacked Lannisport in the timeline yet?

Never. Wands aren't powered by just any pieces of organic magical beast matter you cram in them, or the matter of making a wand would be a simple as keeping a sack of unicorn guts handy. It's specific pieces: dragon heartstring, Phoenix feather, that hold the magic.

If anything, since this Harry views his past memories as separate from himself (something I really, really like by the way - A+ on making him Harry Baratheon and not Harry Potter in Westeros body), he's probably already tried and failed.

Harry has just turned nine; his nameday celebration was in chapter 3.

"Worried? Do you foresee some great conflict?" the old knight said with a laugh. "Clear your mind of worries. Erase all doubts. You're but nine, not yet old enough to call yourself even almost a man grown. You've years before you."
    --TPWWP, Ch5.

Joffrey is ten, as of chapter 5, according to word of god.

edit: And yes, the Greyjoy Rebellion has already happened. These dates are all pulled from canon, so if Cxjenious has played with the timeline, then they may be incorrect.

    282AL Robert's Rebellion kicks off
    283AL Robert is crowned king
    286AL Joffrey is born
287AL? Harry is born, not sure on year.
    289AL Greyjoy Rebellion
    290AL Myrcella is born
296AL? Probably the current date in the fic.
297AL Joffrey celebrates his 12th nameday in canon. This confused me, because he'd only be 11 years old, until I realised that your first day alive is your first nameday, so your nameday is your birthday age +1.
298AL A Game of Thrones takes place.

My understanding (which may be wrong, I'm not expert at HP) is that a wand has a core. That core can be anything magical in nature. The core is uses a shell, which I think must be wood, so the user can properly utilize the core's magical nature. The core could be anything from unicorn heart-strings to dragon hair (if dragons do have any hair on them), I don't think it matters specifically what part of a magical beast you use. Maybe certain parts of an animal are usually best for channeling magic, but I'd hesitate to say you can only use the heartstrings of a dragon, or the feathers of a phoenix.

The implication though, is that a well-matched wand resonates with its wielder. In magical Britain, this probably means a select number of cores are fairly likely to resonate with the people there. Were you to use something like... Yuki-Onna sinew, you might want to be in the business of selling wands for the Japanese? But I do think it's possible to use 'dragon bone' as a wand core, or at least, as a reader, I'd accept it. Not as a 'shell' though, I would expect the shell to always be some kind of special wood, otherwise, we'd see more exotic wands in HP.

I expect whatever wand Harry to craft, won't work well? He's unlikely to find the perfect material for himself right away. And it would be an interesting element of the story, for Harry to be in the business of constantly refining a variety of wands in attempt to find the best one for himself?

Unless Harry dabbled in wand-making after Hogwarts in his previous incarnation, I doubt he's going to make something that's Olivander-grade. Though I'd expect something that's at least serviceable as a wand from him at some point.

In that case, I submit the logic of this - if he's had a basement full of dragon bones for nine years, the fact that he has yet to procure a wand of any serviceability is proof that they don't work. He's obviously given building a wand some thought (he has been mentioned looking for basilisk and manticores and even experimenting with his own blood as a core), and it seems unlikely he would overlook the honking big pile of magic in the dungeons as a prospect unless there were a reason to ignore it. Maybe he's already tried, maybe he knows it won't work. Either way, we won't be seeing a dragon bone wand.

Additionally, I consider Pottermore fluff as iffy canon at best.

    Using Yak's template:

    278AL Robert's Rebellion kicks off
    279AL Robert is crowned king
    283AL Joffrey is born
    284AL Harry is born
    285AL Greyjoy Rebellion
    286AL Myrcella is born
293AL Probably the current date in the fic.
297AL Joffrey celebrates his 15th nameday
298AL A Game of Thrones takes place.

I envisioned Joffrey's birthday in September and Harry's is at the end of July.

On some level I kinda wish he would never be able to fashion a wand himself, to get Harry to have to think of new ways of doing magic in the Westeros world, maybe seek Maesters that still believe in magic or go on anchient book hunts. But I know Cxjenious would never let him start apparating and throwing AK's left and right so I'll survive anyways :)

I know I can only reiterate what others have said, but yesyesyesyesyesyesyes. I came into this fic having never read ASoIaF, or watched GoT, or even being over-exposed to plots, and my god was I still blown away. Were it not for the fact that show watchers and non-watchers alike love this story, I'd say that not knowing the setting only adds to the experience.

I think that Harry is an excellent character, and I love the manner in which the author has written him. I was hooked on him from the first chapter, didn't notice the 'slowness' at all. I can only imagine greater things for him later, and the tinge of darkness slowly growing sounds excellent.

I must admit, were there more chapters posted I would happily piss away the whole night reading them, tomorrow be damned. Now, don't pull a GRRM and kill Harry off, or else I might have to change my 5/5 rating.
