It's coming. I'm up to Harry and Tywin's 'big meet.' Tomorrow I'm going to go through and flesh out the scene. Then I have to write another, I don't know, 5-6 thousand words to set everything up for the roughly two year time skip. I've planned for a timeskip at the end chapter 7, and another timeskip at the end of chapter 8 to set things up a few months before Game of Thrones begins.

So, it's already been metioned exhausteveky that Harry's memory are at best fuzzy, sometimes confusing and with no sense whatsoever. Is this something permanent, or will he gradually regain the,, as he gets older and more able to understand them? Or will it be like with Wastelands of Time, where a single, specific event make them, well, complete again?

Also, entering the whole marriage/sex thing, the most sense would be to marry her to Margaery, she wants to be the queen alright, but with Joff/Sansa, that's out. The next best thing? Richest heir and prince to boot H.L. Also, there is a reason why there is this discussion, marriages are the biggest social event in a noble's life that doesn't involve death. Kingdoms are built on the, peace or war too. And with a great spouse, someone's mojo goes up wonderfully. Also, what is Maergary age?

They are? I believe he is just emotionally disassociated from them.

The two aren't mutually exclusive. He's hazy about the memories, hence emotionally distant.

Great @ Cxjenious. I like your preludes a lot, but I've been wanting to get to the GoT plot since chapter 3.

One thing I'm really interested in is Harry's estimation of Cersai. As long as you keep her similar to canon Cersai, then Harry, who'll largely learn of the game under Tywin, might eventually start regarding her moves as quite amateurish. And considering that his moral compass is quite antithetical to hers, and that he'd have spent a good number of his formative years away from her -- I would expect him to have a quite dim, though complicated, regard for Cersai. (Which sort of makes the whole Harry/Cersai ship a rather unlikely proposition for me at this time.)

He will gradually connect with some of them as he gains more experience in this life. Below is my attempt to explain it from other thread that Cxjenious confirmed that it's correct in his story.

Then I hope to god she lives a long and happy life. Misery and death for the sake of misery and death does not good writing make.

And vice versa. He's emotionally distant, hence the memories are hazy. And he was bloody old when he died. The mind isn't a book. Nor is it a movie. You can't just press replay and see everything as vividly as you did when it happened. He dreams about some things, and that grants more clarity.

    Me too.

We'll just have to wait and see, won't we?

I'm of the opinion that there is magic in Cersei's vag. Real deal, world conquering, mind altering magic. If she ever managed to ensnare her son with her magical vag, there'd be no hope for Harry. Her vag is too powerful.

More likely because she's the queen and most of the people she seduces for favors are lowborn.

No, they're probably thinking, "Oh shit I'm fucking my cousin/sister/mother/daughter/aunt/niece/grandmother!" Kettleblacks are really distant cousins and Moon Boy for all I know.

I'm looking forward to seeing Harry interact with Tywin more than almost anything else about this fic. As you're using the ages from the show rather than the book, I'm hoping that it's closer to Tywin from there than the colder, distant hypocrite from the books. Tywin's scenes with Arya were amazing, and gave a hint of just how good a Tywin mentor figure could be.

The differences in their personal philosophies about certain things provides enough interesting tension to prevent it from devolving into a typical grandfather relationship, as if that would ever happen. Not to mention the parallels between Dumbledore and Tywin. In many ways, Tywin could be seen as a younger, harder version of Dumbledore who has political power in lieu of magical power. I'm reluctant to draw the comparison, because they're different characters, and it cheapens them to say that they're fundamentally similar, but there's enough in common that it satisfies my love of mentor Dumbledore fics.

As for the whore marriage debacle, I'm hoping Harry takes Tywin's view - it doesn't matter a rat's arse what he wants. The good of the family comes first. He'll marry who he's damn well told.

This doesn't really matter, because Harry's a good-natured character, and, like Ned Stark and Catelyn, any marriage he was part of would develop a certain fondness over time, even if it did not begin with love.

How Harry and Sandor Clegane interact will be fascinating, too, given Harry's affinity for fire and the Hound's fear of it. Neither of them are fond of Joffrey, and the Hound has a soft spot for naive, innocent little birds. Harry/Hound bromance would be better than any of the pairings suggested so far. They could go on a road trip with Tyrion and Bronn.

On the subject of Harry's past life, all I can say is that I'd prefer some clarity over his current magical abilities - I don't care if he can do much beyond a few tricks, as this story is not about magical power, but I'd like to know where that thread is headed soon, because weak, confused floundering about is not particularly interesting to read. The haziness of memory is a very good thing. It prevents the fic from degenerating into silly flashbacks which waste time, and it keeps the focus firmly in the present, where the interest of readers is at.

I can't in good faith rate this fic 5/5 because it's so early that the story has hardly started yet. But I'm going to anyway, because I like it.

Yeah, one thing I really liked about the TV series compared to the books was that more characters seemed to have redeeming characteristics.

In the books there are a lot of characters that I couldn't connect with it much or at all because there was just nothing I saw in them that I liked... or if there was it was too little and/or too late.

They're still far from perfect in the TV series. A lot of them still have glaring faults, or are assholes, or whatever.

But I can also sympathize with their positions more. Tywin is a good example, but there are others.

    Well, lets recap:

    These should sound familiar -
He can make things move without touching them.
He can make animals do what he wants without training them.
He can make bad things happen to people who make him mad. He can make them hurt if he wants to.

He can invade minds and view memories. He knows when people are lying.
    He can conjure fire.
He charmed a quill to write on its own.

Have I missed anything? Assume what you want from this list. I don't know what you mean by 'weak, confused, floundering about,' though.

I was meaning more the habit of AU wandless Harry running around for ages, attempting to do magic and failing. Then ultimately mastering the AU magic or finding a wand. This is something from fanfiction in general, not a problem in your story.

Perhaps a better way of phrasing it is that I'd like Harry to master whatever abilities he has available to him soon, and be a fully realized Westeros 'wizard', whatever that might be, rather than a Harry Potter without a wand. You're already taking things in this direction with the fire and links to the Red God, which is unfolding in a marvellous way. I was only leery of Harry focusing more on what he is not, what he can't do, than on what he currently can. A hunt for a magic wand would be an example of such behaviour, I suppose. Attempting to recover HP magic would undermine the magic of Westeros which you've begun to explore.

Not that I think you're heading in that direction; only that I hope you don't. Heh.

I think that it may be quite interesting to have him use magic completely different than any magic in Westeros.

Left a review on ff.net, love the story so far.

But I am a bit concerned about the level of magic as well. What we have seen so far has been great. He is different and stronger than the Westeros sorcerers and that is fine but at the same time, at least without a wand, he is not someone worldbreakingly strong either.

I really hope that he will never get a real wand in this story, because the second he does, outside of voldemort, and unless Harry becomes stupid, it would be gameover for everyone else, Others being the sole exception and even they are, so far, in essence, ice zombies who are immune to normal weaponry outside of fire, obsidian and valeryian steel and with his magic, he really wouldn't need the other two.

And here is another concern that I have, that kinda ties into that aspect and that is that I hope that he won't overshadow everyone in their greatest strengths.

For example, Robb, regardless of his big mistake regarding marriage, was a great strategist, arguably better than Tywin, who is regarded as one of the best. If it comes to the fact that Harry is leading an army against or with him, it would be sad to see that Harry totally outshines him in that aspect. Or that he outshines Tywin in making tough decisions.

Regarding the example of whether or not Cunnington should have burned down the town to end the rebellion, he wasn't ruthless enough to even think of that solution, if I remember correctly and I would like to see Harry make similar "mistakes" since Harry is not really the kind of ruthless guy to think like that, especially as a nine year old, albeit with some memories of a 200 year old wizard.

I am saying that, because so far Harry is a great swordsman, and he will be even better once he reaches adulthood, great speaker, solid judge of character, commands the respect of pretty much everyone, seems to be politically savvy and so on.

But yeah, very strong story so far. 4/5 with more than enough potential to become a 5/5 if it remains as strong later on as well, since it is still pretty much at the beginning. Canon plot hasn't even kicked in yet.

The problem is that Harry knows that he needs a wand to perform certain feats of magic. Internally, he views himself as a wizard and any wizard worth their salt needs a wand.

For Harry to simply ignore this fact will take massive amounts of contrivance. Especially considering the light he views himself in with respect to the non-magical people of Westeros.

There's also the fact that I think you're misjudging how he's going to be using magic. I really don't think Harry's going to wave his wand and win a battle. Remember, he's trying to keep it under wraps and I think he will continue to do so unless forced out of this position. You don't win over the hearts and minds of the people with force, and definitely not magic considering the Westerosi belief systems.

TL;DR: A magic wand is fine too.
