Dude, a human is only twice as tall as a hobbit if that human is like 8 feet tall In this picture, I'd say he'd reach no higher than the bottom of that window over Bilbo's head. Plus Smaug's face is foreshortened here; he has a long snout. His face is easily house sized.

 

Actually, humans are barely double hobbit. Hobbits are supposedly somewhere around 3-3 1/2 ft tall while humans average between 5 1/2-6 feet. So Hobbits are actually about 3/5's of a human's stature on average. But I see your point.

 

I think Smaug is big enough...

Well the whole battle will be in the third movie... so add some background for a few of the important characters there, some nice epilogue and you have more than enough material for a third movie.

 

I thought the third movie was supposed to be set between The Hobbit and Fellowship of the Ring

 

Could be focusing more on the Necromancer of Dol Guldur for the third film.
