I just watched World War Z, and it was meh.

It had some awsome scenes but that is it. The movie was jumpy, moving to quickly from place to place.
And then there was God damn Brad "Same Facial Expression" Pitt, no matter what happend the mans face looked the same. That ruined a bit of the movie for me.

Now moving on to the things that annoyed me the most. Warning includes spoilers.

Number one: A person gets bitten by a Zombie, Brad Pitt chops of the persons hand and she is not infected.

Number two: in the beginning of the movie a person is bitten and turned to a Zombie in under ten seconds.

Number three: At the end of the movie in the WHO Building they say that there was eight people who had worked in a part of the building they needed to get into. These people had gotten turned into Zombies, later when they had to flee that part of the building there was like thirty of them.

Number Four: The Deathly Ilness makes Zombies ignore you because they need a healthy host to spread to other hosts thing. No, just No. Zombies do not discriminate between their victims, and that is it.

    To end things.
The movie was an okay Zombie movie that would have been a bit better if Brad Pitt showed a little emotion.
Aside from that naming the movie World War Z was an insult to what Max Brooks has written.

    Pacific Rim. HNNNNNNNNNNNNNG!!!

I just got back from the theater and sweet baby Jesus, what a movie! Just the opening sequence alone was brilliant. Great characters, decent back story, two wonder-filled Independence Day-esque speeches and giant robots. Also, Charlie-fucking-Day! He reminded me of Rick Moranis for some reason. Like Ghost Busters-era Rick Moranis here to save the day! And Ron Perlman, like a bawse!

I was hoping that last kaiju was either gonna be Cthulu or Godzilla. It was kind of both. The last 45 minutes of that movie was just BRUTAL. And I loved it.

Saw World War Z and I'm uncertain whether it was actually good or not. On the one hand, there were several great scenes or ideas throughout the movie. On the other hand, all these decent scenes/ideas felt disjointed when thrown together. I couldn't help but feel that they couldn't decided what kind of film they wanted and compromised by throwing in everything they could.
I really liked the investigative angle that started in Korea. I'd have liked to have seen that idea developed more and was disappointed when it just fell flat after Jerusalem. Having said that, the Jerusalem overrun by zombies scene was bloody amazing. The trailer really doesn't do it justice.

It was everything after this that felt kind of off. You could clearly see that writers felt it necessary to somehow ram in a 'hero saves the day' plotline and compared to the earlier stuff it just felt very awkward and frankly disappointing.

Overall, a great zombie movie on a scale that I've never seen before, but I wish that they'd focussed specifically upon the investigative side of things. Oh, also, I loathed the family scenes. I absolutely hated the bullshit about saving his family.

Saw Pacific Rim just now. Went in excited after reading all the reviews you guys gave...
    Was frankly disappointed.
It was a Meh movie for me. I know a lot of you guys might disagree...But, Yeah.

There's no disputing the fact that it has stunning visuals and it belongs to a category of select few movies actually worth watching in 3D.
But, that's about it. Robots, Monsters, they fight.

I have no idea what exactly I was expecting more from the movie.... The movie felt like one big dry spell to me. A movie with slightly more realistic Robots than Transformers which are controlled by Humans. And instead of fighting other robots, they fight alien monsters.

    3.5/5

Was almost bored by the end of it.

Seeing as my last post on the subject was little more than mindless hype, I figured I could at least explain why I like Pacific Rim so much without getting into spoiler territory.

So, Pacific Rim. To be incredibly reductive, Pacific Rim is a story about giant robots fighting Kaiju. The overall story is, in fact, very simple. Kaiju are coming out of a weird dimensional portal and wrecking up the planet, and an organization was created that makes robots to kill them before they can do too much damage.

There are two major story arcs that the story intertwines. The first focuses on figuring out what the deal is with the Kaiju and how to stop it, as handled by a pair of scientists (which are, admittedly, pretty one-note) as they tackle the issue in their own distinct ways. The second focuses on the three major characters - Raleigh Becket, Mako Mori, and Stacker Pentecost - and their relationships throughout the film; that is, Raleigh's and Mako's partnership, and Pentecost's reservations with allowing Mako to fight.

Basically, the story doesn't bog itself down with too much bullshit. It's simple, but coherent, and treats its viewers with some respect. The major characters have interesting, sensible motivations and are relate-able. The minor characters (like the scientists and the other Jaeger pilots) can be somewhat one-note, but that doesn't feel like an issue; they have a purpose and get through it in a way that makes sense considering their respective motivations.

Then there's the robot fights themselves. They are fucking incredible. The fights are easy to follow and are simply a joy to watch. They're chock full of references to Super Robot shows, but are sane and feel appropriate to the setting. This is, itself, fucking amazing, because they manage to sanely reference Big O, Mazinger Z, and G Gundam of all things.

And ultimately, that's the crux of the thing. While the story doesn't do anything terribly outlandish, that really doesn't matter too much; the characters are interesting, and the fights are coherent, frequent, and extremely fun.

In short: Pacific Rim is a robot movie done right. And as someone who really fucking likes robot shows? That's all it needs to be, and that's why I think it's so fucking good.

I'm pretty sure that had no real spoilers, but in case it did somehow, let me know and I'll throw some tags around it.

Edit: Man, that's a lot more words than I originally planned on. Hahah, whoops! :D

I'll also chime in on Pacific Rim--just saw it last night, and despite reading the reviews here, I wasn't expecting a whole lot. But it turned out to be highly entertaining. I'm not saying it was a smart movie by any stretch--it was pretty dumb in some parts--but I was quite pleased to be watching it. The effects were really, really great--and even though giant fights and destruction took up the lion's share of the film, I never got tired of the spectacle. I also thought they did a really good job with the soundtrack--it was unobtrusive when it needed to be, and thematic when it was called for. The real weakness of the film, I felt, lay with its two leads. They were by far the least interesting and charismatic of the cast, which was a real shame. The main actor's brother was played by homeland's Mike (Brody's former bff) and I really wish they'd used him as the main character instead. And I totally enjoyed the scientists' subplot more. But yeah, all in all definitely worth seeing on the big screen.

    Europa Report.

    Freakin awesome.

Anyone who deems himself, even remotely as a Space Enthusiast, they should watch this movie if you haven't already.

The Blair Witch Camera angle is for once incredibly suitable for this.
There were a few, very minor Hiccups in the facts/possibilities department, but they're barely noticeable.

The most amusing thing for me was how Bio - Luminescence worked exactly as Nature intended it to. Only this time on Humans. XD

    Haha.

Though actually, given the whole, well, Pacific nature of the thing, a PJO cross would actually be pretty badass.

I wonder if the Jagers would count like ships for Percy?

I was honestly thinking about writing a review for Pacific Rim, but really, all I need to say is this: if we're looking for a big-budget, overblown action movie with stock archetypes, beautiful cinematography, and some iconic action scenes to replace Independence Day, Pacific Rim is the movie for you. See it, it's awesome.

Europa report was... sorta meh. I loved the whole space exploration thing, but it was terrible boring at times.

As for World War Z. Liked it up until the end. How the fuck does a zombie, which is dead, know that someone has a terminal illness?

It'd be fun to write, Percy would probably be able to pilot a Jaegar on his own given his durability but still the whole two pilots or it melts your brain might prove troublesome.

Looking forward to Elysium, one of the best brazilian actors is in it. Of recent generations, Wagner Moura is one of the best, and my favorite. I really like Matt Damon too, that andmhow interisting the movie seems, I'm looking forward to the movie. And before coming to this thread I haven't even heard about Pacific Ring. Now I want to see it.

Only movie I recently watached in the theaters was 'Now You See Me', and despsite the love almost all of the cast and Melanie Laurent is so fucking sexy, I really dilikedmthe movie.

I am not really digging Elysium... The whole exoskeleton armor combined with "evil" technocrats seems so bland and 0815 to me. But I willing to wait and see.

Anybody here who watched Only God forgives? Heard terrible things about it and really disliked his last movie, Driver, but the summary sounds very promising.
