Aeryn seems like a pretty neat character to me. She's adorably homicidal, like a less annoying version of Arya.

 

He kind of has been doing it all the time, you know...

 

Oh yeah. Forgot about that. It's been a long time, I need to re-read the chapters. Anyhow, I'm interested on how Harry's going to develop that particular branch in magic. Huge advantage for him.

 

I haven't posted here in several years but wanted to have a brief comment on the story and discussion.

Perhaps this is an unpopular opinion, but I for one like Aeryn. She's a different look into the world than many the other characters, and I find it refreshing. And I will also come out and say that I did not expect to like her at first, but she did grow on me a great deal. I would have to say that it started with her reaction to finding out that Harry is a prince. Like someone else noted, she did seem to pull back from the group and become quiet, but I did not feel that she became a wallflower. I felt like she was reassessing the situation, and determining exactly what kind of person Harry was, as well...Speaking as a girl, and remembering my own first few crushes, sometimes you just want to watch them being who they are rather than talking to them. She's building castles in the clouds with her dreams of Harry, just like any normal girl would.

Only to have it all come crumbling down.

Speaking as a psychologist, I have to say that I loved how cxjenious dealt with the issues surrounding rape and recovery from it so far, and look forward to reading more of the same. I found that her desire to learn anatomy, so that she knows where to stab someone if they ever attack her again, to be very real and human of any victim. And it is also how she is developing something for herself. Even though it's under the guise of being useful to Harry (and that is the reason why she will likely be allowed to learn it, as she otherwise would not be given such an opportunity), it is only something that she is outwardly doing for Harry, because she has deep intrinsic motivations for wanting to learn that are rooted in her being a victim of a violent crime and her own desire to not be back in that situation ever again.

I do enjoy her as a character, and I hope to see where the author will take her from here. I'm looking forward to the next update.

 

I'd be surprised if he married Dany. For whatever reason, I can see Harry towards the end of the story, killing or if not killing using the heartstrings of one that has been killed, to make his wand. In which case, Harry and Dany would be enemies.

Not sure if I'm the only one, but because Harry here is a Lannister and for them family always comes first, he would be obligated to oppose to the Starks etc. At least until Tywin dies and he becomes the official head of the family and can take it whatever direction he wants.

 

I could see Varys having a backup plan of Harry marrying Dany, to bring back the Targaryens, incase the Aegon plan falls apart.

Maybe even Harry seeking her out himself after his father dies, maybe after his brother too if he does die. it would help bring the Lannisters back into "good" light, to bring them past the King Landing's sacking.

Would love to see what Dorne would do in that situation.

They can't keep doing Tywin kind of shit, it might be good short therm, but it's bringing them future centuries of hate.

 

Varys wants to destabilize the realm by any means. Danny was supposed to die, what made her valuable was the hatching of her dragons.

 

He claims to want a king that knows the plight of lowborn.
So Aegon was brought up knowing how to fend for himself, he was starved etc.

But Harry seems to be going that way. Atleast before he went to Casterly Rock.

 

As much as I want to see Harry interact with the more fantastical North and get his magic on, what I want to see is the Tyrells come into the scene. Lannister vs Tyrell politics is particulary juicy in the show, and Southron politics escalate when they enter the scene in the books. Power-hungry Reachmen make good reading.

I don't know where the discussion on Aeryn started and I haven't been following it but here's why I think people don't think she's fleshed out enough:

For every other character, the character development has mostly been done. We know how they feel, think and act. For an OC, we've barely had a few chapters to read about her. So while you have done an excellent job in filling her out Cxjenious, she'll, at times, feel empty because she hasn't gone through the thousands of pages of character development the rest have.

Even the lannister girls will feel more real because we can place them growing up in a lannister household under Lord Tywin and think "oh, so that's the reason for that particular character trait she has", etc. But Aeyrn's a blank slate. GRRM never really exposed us to life in lower city. But despite it all, I think you've done an excellent job with her.

I don't cotton to that theory. I'm more of the mind that Aegon is Illyrio Mopatis Blackfyre son. To me, Blackfyre!Varys cheapens his character, turning everything he has done into a giant convoluted revenge plot. I like the idea that he's playing an even deeper game, for reasons we haven't seen or gotten enough clues for yet.

 

How does that cheapen his character? It's not about vengeance... it's about the throne.

Sorry, forget that, I don't want to get into this conversation now. You have better things to write.

 

There'd be at least a little bit of "screw you guys, we won in the end" if it turned out to be true.

I think she is doing it equally for this reason and because she wants to be useful to him. After her talk about the Red God I'm under impression that she thinks Harry is more than just a human.

 

Hard not too when you see a nine year old boy take down two guys full grown and combat trained by the sheer force of his rage.
