Oh I totally agree. No one has only one motivation for doing something, and writing a character that only has one motivation for everything just doesn't seem real. I'm happy Cxjenious has not fallen into that trap. Aeryn is doing it for herself first, she probably thought of it because of her own desires, but she's not oblivious to the side benefits it would have for Harry. Or well...for the benefits that it would have for her relationship with Harry, and I use the term relationship in a multifaceted way that goes beyond romantic.

As for R'hllor, I'm not exactly sure yet, as I'd like to see more about what she believes and what she thinks she saw.

Exactly what my thoughts are about the new chapter. And I think this is what others mean Aeryn needs to be more developed. It need not be spelled out, but a bit more definition of her thoughts/goals would be better rather than being vague.

IIRC, his brother survived but left the story because he was offered a job by a fat, bearded man. Sounds suspiciously familiar to me.

IIRC the surviving brother got a job with Davos via Stannis. Yeah?

Aeryn fanboyism is now official! Lets go people! More femme fatal in Harry's life!

No to Dany/Harry ship please! I know they would pair well based on their character personality and beliefs alone but... no.

It would be interesting for them to meet though. Or at least come into conflict with each other. Both fundamentally decent people, who have to be on opposite sides because of family. Family history, in Dany's case.

Too bad, that. Harry/Dany is the OTP, after he gets a bastard on Margaery and his cousin.

    And I'm like, so serious.

I like the mystery. I don't want to pigeon hole Aeryn in my mind too easily. I want to discover new facets of her character through her actions. She could still become Harry's enemy in the future and whatever her final character and relationship with Harry is, I want to see it unfold slowly.

I still have questions about her initial reaction to Harry revealing himself as being Prince Harry. Was she meeting a beloved-by-the-community prince who she'd heard great stories about, but had never actually seen, or was there some other reason for her reacting the way she did, perhaps one related to her faith or a prophecy or just a young girl's heart? I don't know and I don't want to know. Actually, I really really do want know, but it might spoil things a bit.

I think that part of the problem you're having is that this is a chapter-by-chapter affair. If it were finished, then you'd be able to power through to the end and all of your questions about Aeryn's character would've been revealed over the course of those few hours. It's more difficult to understand her when this is all we have.

Maybe my guess at the cause of your discontent is off base, but I enjoy the subtle characterisation in the story and how Harry's motives are the only ones we actually know [canon aside]. Everyone else is up in the air, even Aeryn.

Well, the whole Dany theories seem a bit premature anyway, barring some crazy new developments, like Harry striking out to go over the sea for some reason, they are not going to meet for years. Maybe ever. Entirely possible that Dany dies before they meet, someone mentioned the whole manticore thing and how without Ser Barristan she would be dead. Well, Ser Barristan seems to have found someone else who also fits his criteria of being worth following, and may not be there. Heck, he might not even be dismissed. For all we know, Robert is going to die at a different point in time in a different way and even the assassination attempts may never happen. Either way, Dany is on another continent far away from Harry and he has enough to deal with there, doubt he is going to strike out to get to her.

The first thing that comes to my mind whenever GoT is mentioned is bastards. GoT is full of them. Literally and figuratively.

Almost every lord has a bastard. It would be nice conflict if Harry has one and something happens so that he cant acknowledge him/her.

That said, I liked Myrielle character from the last chapter. Hope to see more of her.

She has also seen a candle act rather strangely in his presence. Well, probably. It wasn't explicitly said that she noticed.

Well, you're right. Dany was always disposable.

If the Dorthkai (sp?) invaded, Aegon was intended to clean up and marry Dany. If Dany and Viserys died, well, then that's tough luck.

The only reason why Dany was given the eggs was proof of her authenticity as a Targ... But Aegon was always > Dany in terms of Varys + Illyrio.

Yeah, no offense, but this is speculation. I am not saying I particularly disagree, but the reasoning for the gift of dragon eggs, or even marrying Dany off in the first place has never officially been addressed.

IMHO, Dany was married off in hopes of recruiting the Dothraki or just to make them leave Pentos alone. Simple as that. If I had to guess, Varys/Illyrio thought it was a long shot, but worth it.

As ridiculous as it sounds, Varys has acted the 'most good' out of any players of the Game of Thrones:
Tries to persuade Aerys to NOT admit Lannister troops to King's Landing before the Sack? Check.
    Tries to save Ned? Check.
    Helps Tyrion? Check.
(I can't recall specifically, but he smuggles Selmy out of KL, right? (I assume Griff, too.)

I do concede that he does have dirt on his hands. But even when he does, it is either in the best interests of the Realm or to maintain his 'cover' and position.
See:Assassination of Dany, not getting Ned out of the dungeon (We know he is able.), etc.

However, I will say that at some point, things change. (See: Kevan's chapter in Dance with Dragons.)

My interpretation? Varys's plans have probably been too fluid for the reader to see. They'd have to be, with the War of the Five Kings.

As for Aegon, I get the idea that yes, Varys and Illyrio wanted him as King, but Viserys and Dany weren't expendable, but rather tools to be used to gain support for Aegon through marriage to Dorne and the Dothraki.

Don't mistake these opinions for fact. We've never had a Varys POV chapter from GRRM.

If you suspect Varys is one of my favorite characters, you'd be right. He's so fun to read, and maybe the biggest thing that I DON'T like 'The Prince who was Promised' is that Varys is mentioned what, once? He won't look Harry in the eyes, so I assume he isn't ignorant of Harry's magic, or he's got a seriously guilty conscience and feels either judged by Harry. I'm guessing it is the former.

I can only assume he'll have a bigger role to play later.

    Like, durr.

Just because Varys has only been mentioned once doesn't mean he isn't lurking, as usual. The spider's web reaches far and wide...

You'll see more mentions of him when Harry returns to King's Landing.

I think Joffrey has his uses. We have to have someone to stick around and get Lord Stark beheaded and start the civil war(s). If it weren't for that, it would just be Stannis screaming bloody murder in a locked closet.
