I'm a bit creeped out right now. You guys probably won't believe me, but the black rampant lion is my family's sigil. Our's has three crowns over the lion's head and our words are "patriotism leads us". It's a freaky coincidence.

Not sure why you don't believe him. My ancestors were from Ireland, our family name originated in Tipperary in the 1600s, and there is technically a family crest associated with it.

Granted we've never used it or claimed it or anything, but technically it's there. I assumed he meant a similar sort of deal, not that he wanders around wearing it and having it mean something.

It's just as believable as your government insider knowledge.

Which I never claimed to have.

    But that's off topic.

Everyone can go back far enough to find themselves a coat of arms, my family has a link to a old swedish noble line.

    But enough about that.

So, Cxjenious, can we see that Coats of Arms? I'm really curious. The Valyrian Steel swords are really cool, but now in my head I can't stop thinking is shouldn't Harry have a spear as well? It takes far less metal than a sword, and dragon bone seems like ther perfect substitute to wood, making the spear really light and sturdy. And a spear is way better in mounted combat.

    Are you welsh?

    Depends.
It's mainly for charging enemy lines and pursuing them. You don't want a spear when you're engaged in melee combat.

    Tell that to Oberyn Martell.

I hadn't thought about spears. They'd be a bit more feasible than a sword.

I just read the Way of Kings, so spears are cool with me.

Yes, yes you do, the longer reach is a great advantage in close quarters, specially against foot soldiers.

Much more, the blade of one Valyrian Dagger is more then enough, a sword would take a lot more of them, and you wouldn't need to melt it, so according to that post you linked, it's possible.

    Silly readers.

Harry will wield a Bat'leth, and anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool.

He'll probably forge the magical metal himself, using Dragonfire, deep magicks, and a forge set into the foundation of Old Valryia itself.

    Ours is the fury? No.
    Hear me roar? No.
    Fire and blood? No.

Never tickle a sleeping dragon? Hells to the yes.

    Ched, be gentle.

That said, I agree about the sword. Spears are dumb. Daggers are back ups. And if we're going canon, isn't Lightbringer a sword? Unless it's a metaphor, he's got that, and wouldn't it likely be a lock as his weapon of choice?

And he's just going to find Lightbringer in his backyard, is he? He has to have a sword before the bloody end of the story. And I'm all for Lightbringer being a metaphor.
